Well, my only point was. When you say something like - "Advertising is neccessary because it takes 1/2 of a million dollars every time a TV pilot is made". Although there may be a good arguement for advertising, you won't be able to make it because people don't respect your opinion after such a ridiculously overstated or just plain bold faced lie. IMHO of course.

I know 90% of Slashdot is just people talking shit but really.... a half-million dollars per 30 minute show? Riiiighhtt! A new movie called the Fountain when it still had Brad Pitt attached to it was given $75 million as budget. It involves following the characters through incarnation past, present, and future w/ space ships and all kinds of high budget special effects goodies. When they got Hugh Jackman instead the budget dropped to $40 million. See where the money goes? Guess what? Highly paid movie stars rarely star in cheesy pilot episodes of films. These #'s you guys are spewing are steeped heavily in bullshit.

Truthfully I think the point he was making was pretty much ANY os can run on the cell proc. Then he named a few os (Lindows, Windows, OSX). I don't see nitpicking the nuance or phrasing as diminishing the impessive nature of the statement considering he's talking about a game console and endorsing ANY os to be ported to it.

As many have pointed out... It allows apps to run w/ out the red tape of using XP/OSX. Seriously... it is not hard to see that the ability to run apps IS an enormous selling point. You're right that Joe Average doen't care whether it's ran on Linux or not but he certainly wants new free apps and functionality guarranteed for the life the machine, FULLY endorsed by the manufacturer, not opressed like Linux on XBOX for example.

OK... If you are so stupid (how did you turn your PC on?). Anyway, it is gouging in that the people in India don't have $200 per copy for each new MS update of their OS, yet as pointed out they scarcely have another choice as Mac isn't cheaper and Linux isn't widely adopted. MS charges an assload because they have us bent over a barrel NOT because that in any way represents the true value of a few updates.

"especially as we start teaching what was college grade math earlier and earlier in education" I call bullshit on that. I as a child visited the California Capitol building in Sacremento and was astonished at the antique school books they had on display. The pages were filled with equations I had never seen the likes of before. I later learned that this was calculous, geometry, and trig. These were grammar school math books which I believe correlates with grade school and middle school now. Now I believe in High Schools students are required only 2 years of math and the highest they can do is Freshman-Geometry, Sophmore-Trig, Junior-Pre-Calc, Senior-Calc. Sounds like a step backwards from calculous in middle school 100 years ago!

Thanks for looking up for me... please take a few deep breaths tho'... I'm concerned for you. As an aside... Taking a thrice translated text thousands of years old's English approximation as 100% infallible seems just steeped in insanity to me. The gist is fairly clear: "don't be evil" seems to be the crux of it. I try not to get it too twisted beyond that... Hey shit for brains... I happen to be Catholic and I can tell you: in every church I've been to the rituals aren't "hollow" as you say. We gather to hear one reading from old testament, one from the new testament, one from the Gospel, then the priest tries to tie the three together w/ common daily experiences, then we retell the story of the last supper and break bread and drink wine together. It is VERY uplifting and not "hollow" at all thank you very much.

Even $600 is too much for me... personally, I had to budget heavily for a few months to be able to get a PSP for myself and my 11 yr. old son w/ a few games each and a 1/2 gb mem card which all told STILL didn't approach the cost of this unit alone! I don't begrudge anybody w/ the discretionary income, but for "Joe Average", they may as well be priced at $5,000.... they'll never have mass appeal at $600+. BTW, I will be the 1st to say that iPod photo is sold at an insultingly high price as well for a STUPID feature. I bought the 2nd gen iPod mini and find it MORE than adequate. I find these so-called high-end models a solution in search of a problem at best and a plan to seperate cash from those which have more of it than brains at worst.
