    Didn't AMD at one point have a similar feature in their hardware? I recall them having to release microcode so that all cores would be throttled simultaneously. It seems Windows (pre-7 probably) sometimes had a habit of leaving threads on the "sleeping" cores.

    I was really hoping this would have been fixed eventually, but in addition to enabling support for automatic processor/fan throttling in your BIOS, you must also configure Windows to use these features. In the "Power Options" (not sure what it's called in Windows 7) in the control panel, you need to set the power scheme to "Minimal Power Management." Different power management profiles enable different strategies for throttling hardware into lower power states in about the most non-obvious way possible. Anyway, I hope that works for you. (This also applies to Windows XP. Not sure about Windows 2000, though.)

    That would be the idea, but it only goes up to 64 at the moment. (And having the 64-bit types is optional.)

    Might I suggest:
    • Firefox 3: Tools -> Clear Recent History
    • Firefox 3: Tools -> Start Private Browsing (or ctrl+shift+p)
    • Doing your search at home

    It's still possible to find your browsing history in other browsers

    You do realize that you can become infected from coworkers long before they show any symptoms? The "puts your welfare at risk" argument doesn't make sense. If you see a sick coworker, then it's quite possible that you're ALREADY infected.

    By yourself, in a vacuum, with no reference books or people to collaborate with, and an arbitrary one-hour time limit, and arbitrarily simplified problems that don't actually represent what you have to solve "in the real world"?

    I have been in this situation more than once outside of school.. In interviews (for some stupid reason..) They say it's to "test your though process," but it reflects poorly on people who feel rushed in an environment with artificially restricted resources.

    I hate traditional "fantasy" scenarios. The only game where I actually enjoyed it a lot was in Oblivion. Usually it's just the same boring junk though, throw in a few elves and orcs and shit.

    Except that vorbis has a huge advantage over MP3 when encoding at low bit rates (it sounds better.) It's important for people who are buying devices with limited storage capacity (CD players and other cheap portable devices.) It might not be as huge of an issue if solid state storage was even cheaper than it is now, though.
