I'm not suprised there's now a Blog completely dedicated to ex-Google employees. It seems that they (Big G) don't take kindly to outsiders looking in... And God help you if you try to open the window and give others a peek.
Of course you can't open Windows to to Google! Google runs FreeBSD and Linux.
I appreciate your humorous post, but I hope people remember that most of those games ere all created before copyright existed anyway. I was teaching at a summer camp recently and the kids were amazed that copyrights on things used to expire.
Funny thing, that. You are a politician in a country where the vast majority of the people at least casually believe in some kind of God, and you find that you have to pretend that you represent their views if you want them to keep electing you. It's representative government, and it's the worst form of government on Earth, except all the others.
Technology is making direct democracy a lot more feasible these days. Might be a fun social experiment somewhere with an educated populace.... Oh damn it! Where will I find one of those.
The concept of corporate personhood allows corporations to do many things that people have the rights to. Why shouldn't that make a corporation liable the way people are?
When my son was given a bunch of MegaBloks as a present, they 'polluted' our vast Lego collection. Every time I find one, I toss it straight into the trash.
That seems a little harsh. As a kid I'd have hated it if stuff just went missing, especially if it was one of those unique pieces that I had plans for.
45 mph is more efficient but it's not reasonable to limit travel to this speed with the way cities are designed in this country (US not England). Things are too far away and public transportation is either nonexistant or unreliable in most American cities. Environmentally you could help a lot more by making cars unnecessary than by slowing them down.
what things You can't do in PHP, that You can do in Python or Perl?
PHP's anonymous functions cannot contain state, so you cannot form lexical closures. Lexical closures are an important tool of abstraction.
PHP lacks any scope besides, global and function, which though not crippling is a bit annoying. All PHP functions are global in scope, making it hard to provide an interface to a code package, and it also lacks namespaces which compounds the problem. It makes it difficult to work on large projects, without incurring naming conflicts.
PHP's arrays are actually hashes, with an occasional numeric keys. There are no lists or other containers.
This is not to say I hate php, in fact I use it for many simple web projects just becaue it's nearly universally installed on web hosting providers. I do not however think the current generation of php4/php5 are well designed. But then again, perl was supposed to have been pretty poor off around version 2 so there's always hope that when the team goes on to begin php6, they'll have more experience, and fix some things.
Ah thanks for the clarification. Now that you mention it I do remember reading that quote complaining about "ruining the hobby by stealing other people's work." I didn't realize it was in regards to a BASIC runtime.
To me the major advantage of at home printing, is that you can control the size and texture of your prints. Printing 3x5 may not make sense financially but when you compare the price of printing 18x24 on a pro-grade printer versus taking it to the printshop, you save 25%.
Bryce is a great tool for learning about algorithmic 3d noise and other procedural textures. It's not a great tool for making the subway from the Matrix.
Blender still isn't up to the standards set by the big guys (it's getting there but still needs work), but it doesn't really even matter feature-wise because every school for 3d anim. either teaches MAX or Maya with a small minority still teaching Lightwave. Regardless of Blender's cost or features, there's no one in the industry now with the skills to use it, no comparable training programs for Blender, and most importantly, no massive hype machine to convince people it's worth looking at. Trust me, I have a BFA.

You really don't have to read any of it. I don't.

Except those fines go to the state department.
Well, you could "execute" the corporation by disbanding it but this would probably only hurt the working stiffs so I guess I'll agree with you.

A) You shouldn't be refactoring the database anyway. B) It is typesafe, it's garunteed to be of type 'row' or 'row_set'.
Well said!
I just don't understand the grandparent's assertion that european counsterstrike shorthand carries any weight on the net as a whole.
There there, just tell that to the nice men in white coats.
Wow, that comment took a 180 degree turn from cogent to Anti-Semetic.

Wow you don't se the "Last Action Hero" quotes often. To paraphrase "Something's rotten in the state of Redmund and Balmer's taking out the trash!"

I thought he purchased QBasic as well?
