and Windows 8 x86 too, you can not install "Metro" applications unless from the "certified" store or custom enterprise signed applications (that only work with your Windows Enterprise license key), so the lock down of Windows x86 has started too
If I were to design spaceships for the current human capabilities I will add sound simulation to the cockpit, human detection of things in 3D is greatly enhanced by sound, see the advantage of FPS video gamers using 5.1 sound against someone using the plain TV sound
Both iOS and XBox are locked down from their inception. Notch is "boycotting" Windows 8 certification (Metro apps or whatever is called now and store") because it wasn't a locked down platform and is becoming one, don't know but Windows probably is his main platform and he don't want it to become like iOS
This guy built a dock that is able to charge the device when it is being a USB Host. I have read the official Sony Live Dock does it and I think it is true (who will build a dock and advertise that you can plug a PS3 controller/Mass storage device... and not charge at the same time) but I am searching for confirmation
What you can't do apparently is charge and power and USB guest device, If you are charging the external device must be powered by other means. The Sony dock apparently powers the device. This is what I have understood by I could be mistaken
The idea of a standard connector is that I can use the same charger for every device, If I lose the adapter I need to go buy the adapter even if I have another USB charger. If I lose the USB charger I can use another of the chargers I have without the need to buy another one. The probability of someone having two USB chargers is higher than people having two Apple chargers/adapters, so, less wasted electronics, better for the environment,.....
Like the MPEG licenses that allow someone to manufacture a camera that compress to MPEG-4 but if you stream that contents you have to pay again? or force the manufacturer to add a message that the video could not be used for commercial purposes, go check your camera annexed documents http://www.freshdv.com/2010/05/mpegla-licensing-nightmare.html
After seeing the MPEG licenses I believe everything is possible
Steam is the less evil of the game stores DRM. I know that something like digital goods resale will need legislation because it will not fix by itself (I want transfers because I always gave my old games to younger family member), but the worst thing that bothers me is not allowing than others family play my games installed using my account, on my machine, using their own Steam users, at least give us subaccounts or something like that. The console ecosystems (at least the PS3) allow other people to play games downloaded by another account active on the device without they having access to my account, with the exception of those hideous online passes that should work the same way but not, they are tied to one account to play online
I think the parent post was to harsh, but it has some true. I have seen previous game save files of Bethesda games and it amazes me how big their save files are. I don't think a single save file of more that 10 Mb is a good design. I know the PS3 has hardware limitations, but there are always solutions.
An example, not necesarilty the solution for Bethesda coding problems but it shows that you can solve things thinking outside the box (if you want, something Bethesda doesn't want to do, I think), Little Big Planet had problems with save files sizes too, because they store very bug user made levels, add to that that they allow gamers to import textures with the PS Eye Camera. What did they do to solve loading the save file to RAM and saving big files each time? They decided later with a patch to store everything on the game data area and not as save files, this allowed them to stream contents and save only part of the information instead of overwriting the save file. If you need a save file for backup, you use the menu to export all your profile data as a standard save file
Because the Bethesda developers suffer the modern developer illness: "we have more RAM on this new platform, load everything to it" (no matter you do not use all that data everytime). I always wondered why Bethesa games always had long loading screens, they hasn't mastered the knowledge of streaming content
I have learned my lesson with previous Bethesda games so I skip them until they reach the bargain bin. They know how to create amazing worlds and histories, but their code is crap. I have no problem with it when developer aknowledge there are bugs and they know it is their mistake and will try to do their best to fix them, but I hate when people blame it on the platform when other developers had done things more complex of what they aren't doing
Not a fork, but a variant of OpenJDK already exists today, at least for Linux systems many distrutions use it (but people still insist on installong the Oracle one!!!!) IcedTea and they already patched this bug
Java is not the best language out there, but it has a good library of APIs and 3rd party libraries that put any other business application friendly language/runtime below it. You want a better less verbose language? running on the JVM, just try one of the many. I personally recomment Scala
Note: I am really tired of news like this when people start bashing Java instead of the real problem that is Oracle slow response, IcedTea (and OpenJDK variant used by many Linux distros is already pushing updates for this). I don't see people going crazy with every browser vendor because they had security bugs and you only notice them when you read the release notes for their updates. "Remove Firefox/Chrome from your system, every 6 weeks there are security bugs". If you don't need Java do not install it or remove it, this apply for every software in the world, reduce code that could have vulnerabilities in your system, and if someone still is using applets with new code today, please take him/her to the corner of the room and punish him/her with the donkey ears hat, please
"When one rapist falls, three more will rise to take his/her place", So lets declare surrender and stop wasting money capturing them. What dump mentality these days
try disabling hardware acceleration on the preferences panel, if it works ok try to update your video drivers, I had problems with old buggy drivers on some pages
Someone will hack them and will export the shared secret used for RFC 6238 TOTP: Time-Based One-Time Password Algorithm. Two factor authentication job is to protect the user, It doesn't make Dropbox security practices better, and they already demostrated are bad
Sorry, the automatic fanboy response that Apple can do anything they want with your hardware is not valid. Apple officially support running other OSs (see Boot Camp). And you are not the only kind of Mac user out there. There are multiplatform developers that want to run Windows and Linux on their hardware too in order to test their applications. There are people that prefer OS X, but need Windows to run business applications. Disabling a hardware feature intentionally for other OSs is wrong. Apple has no obligation to give you drivers for them, but it has no right power down them intentionally

That don't hide the fact that in short words Apple argued that
Looks like the name is trademarked, so this looks like a way to request money for "Pono compliance"
OpenOffice in the hands of Sun/Oracle was a very close development community, not close source, but extremely closed to accept contributions
Was LibreOffice a fork of Microsoft Office? The parent is talking about win/lose between branches of the fork
How you enforce Air superiority if your planes aren't able to reach the enemy? That is why Aircraft carriers still exist
I think Sony Xperia line of products are doing something that allow USB data (OTG) and charging at the same time, see https://sites.google.com/site/sonicboomworld/ video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v7DjU6nsVM .

I don't see evilness but I see abusiveness, Microsoft like behavior, example: hiding Thunderbolt to OSs that doesn't expose themselves with the name Darwin
