You may want "hot new album" but you may well need Windows for work, school, whatever. There's a difference.
Umm, I hate to point this out to you, but no one needs Windows, either. Ever hear of a Mac? Linux? Granted, in terms of the music industry, I guess you kind of need Windows for the DRM, but we don't like that crap here, either! For failing to mention and overglorify Linux in your post, your geek card should be revoked and your Slashdot account disabled immediately! =)
I'm not sure that would such an "honor". Judging by the quality of 90% of their other products, I think I'd take the "Made in Russia" suit, myself,...;-)
Over on the other side of the state, in Pittsburgh, the mountains provide all sorts of issues. It appears that the CBS, Fox, and NBC affiliates all broadcast from the northwestern suburbs, while ABC broadcasts from the east, near Monroeville, and PBS is in Oakland. So, living in Oakland (near Pitt's campus), on the southeastern side of a large hill, and on the southeastern corner of a large apartment building, I can't get NBC, Fox, or CBS at all (although Fox does come up in one of my rooms fairly well, but not uniformly). ABC and PBS come in crystal clear. I can also get the CW over analog, but I haven't even seen them on digital yet (either, they're not broadcasting in digital yet, or I can't pick it up where I'm at).
I'm not complaining too much, though. Most of the time, I get my TV from the internet, via Hulu, TVU, or one of the networks' sites directly. I just wish NFL and MLB games were streamed over the internet like they do for the NBA, college basketball, or the olympics. ESPN360 is pretty good; but they don't do NFL/MLB. But, it wouldn't matter anyway -- I still won't be able to watch Chicago Bears games in Pittsburgh -- I mean, Steelers country,...
Forget Buffy MMO! When does the Duke Nukem Forever MMO come out? I mean, after all this time, DNF ought to be single, multi, MMO -- pretty much the works, right?!?!
I think Fark's privacy policy is one of the best. They have a short version: "We will not give your addresses to third parties. We hate spammers. Bunch of jackasses is what they are." And then, there's a longer, official version for the lawyers,...;-)
This guy is going to have the very best of the best health care in the world.
And thus, the difference between McCain's and Obama's health care plans. They both require the same amount of money. McCain's plan involves spending it keeping his ass alive. Obama wants to make sure we all get healthcare coverage,...:-)
That's because the owner's identity is hidden, and the domain was registered with GoDaddy, which is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Still, it's a little odd that it was registered just four weeks ago; I wonder if somebody knew something?
What percentage of Americans are regularly active on the internet? What percentage watch hours of t.v. a day?
There are actually quite a bit of studies out there that show that the amount of time the average american spends on the internet per day is increasing, and the amount of time spent watching TV is decreasing. Paper newspaper subscriptions are also declining rapidly as well (as rapidly as old people are dying off),... This should not surprise anyone on slashdot.
Any science news is good news, IMHO. But I do have to wonder what's going to come out of this discovery? Is the cure for cancer going to be found based on solving all the prime numbers out to like a gadzillion digits? Personally, I'd rather put my computers to more useful things -- like finding more drugs,...:-)
But there's still no cure for cancer. And cows are still causing global warming. But, guddarnit, the f**kers are always facing north! What a relief it is to know that! =)
Maybe this just means that we're getting dumb and dumberer as time goes on (backwards evolution)? I mean, if the Ancients, the race that built the Stargates, were fracking brilliant enough to reach ascension, then maybe the Neanderthals ascended, too. What's left were those of us that were too dumb to ascend,...
I wouldn't knock electric or fuel cell vehicles. For one, have you seen the new Roadster from Tesla Motors? That sucker almost puts the average Ferrari to shame,...;-) Plus, the Muthbusters recently put electric cars against gasoline cars . . . and electric won out! Read about it here.
Seriously, with the Olympics barely over, haven't you people learned anything yet? nbcolympics.com used Silverlight, too. Linux doesn't work. Unless you have XP or Vista running under VMware. Then, it will work. Just make sure you've got enough RAM on your system -- and if you're going to virtualize, run XP. If you're trying to run Vista that way, you probably ought to just be shot up front so as to put you out of your misery,...;-)
Then again, most Americans aren't all that hip on living in a desert.
Considering the population growth of cities like Phoenix and Dubai, I don't think the "living in the desert" thing turns people off so much. Maybe it's being packed like sardines, though,...;-)
Was when Microsoft bid for this job back in the early 90s,... where do you think Microsoft Bob came from?;-) The other issue NASA wasn't too fond of were the fact that every time the software encountered an error, all the instruments would turn blue and the spacecraft would crash into the Pacific Ocean,... That, and the "counselor's" solution for just about everything was to throw a chair out the airlock!;-)
When archaeologists of the future come across one of these suckers loaded with all the porn from the late 20th/early 21st century, they're going to be glued to their computers for decades! Either that, or they'll be sorely disappointed, because the women in the pics won't have four breasts with eight nipples and and purple skin,... =)

Oh, great! So now we're going to rediscover all sorts of useless pop culture stuff that should've stayed dead! Like this? :-)

That's just great! When's somebody going to write a Wikipedia article about it?

Actually, I'd agree that Yahoo's privacy policy is good. I've actually modeled privacy policies for some non-profits that I work with after theirs.
And this would a problem, why? Sounds to me like Microsoft's campus is built the same way Windows Vista was built.

Great idea! I'm signing up for the CowboyNeal party today! It's about time we had a CowboyNeal option in national elections! =)

Wow! You could make several of them in different colors, and your beowulf cluster would look like a gigantic Rubik's Cube! Cool!

I didn't know Ric Romero was writing for the New York Times now?
They should get a few clips of the Soup Nazi out of this,... "No Windows for you!"
