Like those of us on Slashdot haven't figured out that Photoshop might be able to ***gasp*** alter history,. . . Then again, the Chinese and Russian Communists figured out how to alter photographs before Photoshop came along. And now, even the Iranians are getting into the game,. ..
When did Ric Romero start submitting Slashdot stores?
When I installed it, I noticed that there was DRM technology in it. Did anybody else catch that? I'm not sure if NBC is using it for the olympics, but most likely they are.
(i.e. I can watch the non-'cool' events, such as judo, wrestling, etc).
But the major events, the ones that generate huge advertising revenue in the US, are still not streamed, in full or live. That includes gymnastics, women's beach volleyball (man's favorite spectator sport?), swimming (unless you count -- gag! -- synchronized swimming, but most slashdotters probably don't consider that a real sport anyways) and most of the track and field events. They've got some select stuff up once it's already happened, like after Michael Phelps already got his golds, but it's not live. Still, I'm kind of surprised that most of the basketball games are streamed -- you would think they'd want those television ad dollars, too?
But, if you run linux with vmware/Windows XP, the streaming works fine. Just make sure you have enough RAM and you'll be ok. I've accessed the site from my work PC running Suse Linux 10.2, 2 GB RAM, nvidia graphics (512 mb) with vmware/XP running in a second monitor. I get the occasional hiccup, but I think that's mostly due to lack of RAM -- mostly, it runs fine.
I'm not sure exactly how this guy got into the problem in the first place, and can only think that he must've been a dick with security to begin with. I own a Nikon D50 dSLR with a moderately-sized lens, and have NEVER been harassed taking photos in a public place. And I take a lot of photos, of lots of things, buildings included. And living in Pittsburgh, it's not hard to take a few shots of bridges, too. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I just don't look all that threatening. But I've not once been harassed. A couple of times, people have mistaken me for a newspaper photographer, but usually they just want me to take their picture so that they can appear in print,...;-)
If you're email address contains the words "anonymous" and/or "coward", you're apparently either an anal-retentive grammar nazi, or you like to pick apart people's jokes until they're not funny anymore,...
You could almost guess personalities by domain names:
Any email address ending in @fark.com means the user is an alcoholic; double whammy if you've got drew@fark.com.
Any email address ending in @aol.com means the user is a clueless n00b, and should probably be shot to spare them of their misery online.
If you're email address ends in, @yale.edu, or @duke.edu, that means that the user is some rich punk living off of mommy and daddy's trust fund,...
Email addresses ending in @mit.edu or @cmu.edu are for nerds and geeks.
Any email address ending in @*.info is not a real person.
If you're email address is president@whitehouse.gov, you're just a dumb Texan who enjoys surfing these "series of tubes" known as the "internets" and fscking the country over and over,...
If you're email address ends in @house.gov, @senate.gov, or @riaa.org you're most likely a criminal.
True, most dSLR cameras require very little power, compared to their point-and-shoot digital cousins. The reason for this is that, with a dSLR, you're taking pictures by looking through the viewfinder directly, without using the power-hungry LSD display. I have a Nikon D50, and usually charge it up once before a weekend and it lasts for several days. Sometimes, it's even lasted for months at a time.
Now, if I attach the SB-600 flash I have with it, that's a different story -- that's powered by AAs, and sucks those up rather quickly. So I could see having a fuel cell option for the flash. But as an option, as opposed to having a special fuel cell built into the camera directly, thereby requiring you to by your manufacturer's energy products -- sometimes you're in a crunch and buying a couple of AA batteries is just the easiest, rather than finding time to charge up rechargeables or charge up the camera itself.
Of course, I'm not a professional photographer, so my camera's power consumption is likely to differ somewhat from a pro that needs to be ready to snap that latest shot of Paris or Britney's latest escapades,...
Sorry, but Australia and New Zealand have long since become independent.
But you guys still do recognize the Queenie as your head of state, so you're not really independent,... unlike, of course, the United States - the nation that told King George III to go fsck himself 232 years ago,...:-)
This is a perfect opportunity to point out that TVU Networks has a freely-available player, and loads of Chinese channels streaming across the internet at any given moment,... Good luck, MediaSentry guys!;-)
Think up idea for a sequel to a popular first-person shooter game based on a popular selling title from the early 90s.
Spend ten years millions of dollars on its develop, and change your graphics engine 10 times prior to release.
During this time, hype up the game in every major gaming rag, and on every major website and blog on the internet. Don't forget to tell Slashdot and Netcraft.
I probably won't be watching gymnastics this year much at all,... especially if it interferes with women's beach volleyball. Now there's a spectator sport that most men can really enjoy! =)
Google is more or less correct. If people really want "true privacy" in today's world, then they really have to never leave their house, never access the internet, never buy anything with a credit card or debit card, and don't forget your tinfoil hat. However, knowing a little bit more about this case, if the property owners in question did have a 'private property' sign up in front of the road that Google went down, then they did trespass onto their property to take the photos. If that's true, then this case is closed. Plain and simple. You don't need any fancy shmancy explanations and definitions of "privacy" here. If there was no sign, then Google did nothing wrong.
Apparently, he never wants to get laid ... EVER!
They forgot to put in the Lego BSOD!

The BSOD is just the icing on the cake of this story. The real interesting bit is the fact that Vista lost out again to the superiority of XP,...
Whoops! That should be "LCD display", not "LSD display". Although I imagine that if my camera had an "LSD display", it would be most amusing,... ;-)

He found it. Remember, in the last movie? He found the nuke and escaped inside of a refridgerator,... ;-)
Here's one of the eight people that bought the app,... ;-)
That's the wrong "George III". Same effectiveness, same popularity, different person,... :-)
Al Gore is to the Democrats what Antarctica is to global warming? ;-)

I wonder if MediaSentry is aware of the Chinese government's track record?
"That's a horrible idea, Tom."
The new laptop bags will start going on sale next week for $299.99 at all major retailers,... Markup will be 500%,... :-)

A live video of the jetpack is available here.
