even if this system could detect the bullet the instant it was fired and then somehow compute it's exact trajectory in that same instant and then figure out how the target must move to avoid it, do you really think it would be physically possible for a person to move fast enough to dodge not one but multiple shots in that kind of time frame?
And how could that suit possibly find out about the velocity of his car?
However, don't let us forget that this seems to be an absolutely new technology. Give it twenty years and it will be usable.
That's so stupid. We have so much energy out there. Why should we use less? We need to advance our technologies to gain more energy out of the sources we already have.
I'm not that sure if the same system (democracy) works for china as it does in the US. Too many people with too much different opinions. I think China would immediately split up in many little nations...
Did you notice how the image with the 2 hands in the upper left of their website is the same as for Slashdots "Social Networking" category, as for example in the facebook-breastfeeding news?
This has nothing to do with innovation, they simply exploit the system - that's all. I had similar feelings like the parent about patents, but we need them anyway. And I don't think that large corporations spend so much money to fight about something which we'll drop later anyway.
Amen! This is so true. I couldn't have said it better than that.
I would love to see how the CIA trys to decrypt the pak0.pk3 which I send just for fun to one of my friends.
From what I've heard the snoops care more about who is talking to who than about what's actually being said. Mapping social networks and all that.
How do you want to find out these social networks? By IPs? If everything is encrypted as he said, how do you want to make the difference between a chat and a P2P connection (whose clients don't know themselves either)?
What we would need to eliminate are "mapped social networks" as MySpace and others. Have a look at this Southpark episode.
One slashdotter's sig sums it up nicely "The act of censorship is always worse than what is being censored. Always."
This sounds like an anti-pattern in programming. I wonder if the pattern/anti-pattern based design approach would work for politics.
"Loom" did it like that.
Might be true for apps but not yet for games. But yeah, he should try it at least.
Don't worry. Human population would probably double within less than one century.

Raytracing!

Don't ask me why I would time something so stupid in my day to day life, but I pride myself at quick withdrawals. Wait a minute...
Me too. Because I get sick each time I see someone using the device for at least 5 minutes.
How about you just do your job?
It's not about that we'll do it, it's about the fact that we'd like to be able to do it.
What it really means: This would be good for girlfriends wanting to know where their boyfriends are [..]
Hehe nice! But this would also give me the perfect excuse. I would reverse engineer my GPS device and let it send bogus data!
Fine, then please check Google Maps if you don't believe me!
Slashdot censored in 3.... 2.... 1....
As long as we get some return on the investment I'm all for it
Like, say, protection from terrorists?
Can't they first wait until humanity advances a bit further into space?
No, it's not. There, a picture of me:
All the Linux distributions are "bloated" [...]
My Gentoo is not.

a well-working gaming industry!
All (hardware developer annoying) gamers would move over to Linux and suddenly: No more driver problems whatsoever!
I fear that Linux needs something like DirectX.
Yeah, of course, you *can* do the same stuff with OGL, but, honestly, it's a pain in the ass to make a whole game with it.
Remember that web on caffeine. Because this is how the internet looks like actually.
Won't work. I'll just use an internet café and I'm fine. Idiots. Don't know what they're talking 'bout. There were just some assholes saying "HEY, WHY AREN'T WE STILL ABLE TO TRACE THESE BAD GUYS? LET'S CREATE SOME NEW STUFF TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE..."
No, no! We'd better wait for the successor of Win7!
Amen! This is so true. I couldn't have said it better than that. I would love to see how the CIA trys to decrypt the pak0.pk3 which I send just for fun to one of my friends.

I'll NEVER NEVER NEVER again buy something from VIA.
Watch out for mainboards with VIA chipsets!
