...in restrooms of any restaurant or bar or building that sells alcoholic beverages. these will measure the alcoholic concentration of your pee and with a sign next to it stating what the legal limit is for you to be able to drive.
but then this may create competitions on who can reach the highest alcohol concentration in their blood;p
i often times take the side of the negative or bad idea in this case in order to instigate debate/discussion sake. my roommate and i would often have discussions regarding moral questions, or just plain simple ones. but if we both agree on one side, then we don't really get to see all the argumentive points on the other side.
like the case of suicide, both of us knows it's wrong to kill yourself (others may disagree here), but if we both agree to that, there's really nothing to debate/discuss/argue about. so i usually choose the opposite side and in this case would be defending why suicide should be allowed. though this will be defending a bad idea, but it lays out valid points for both sides of the argument. in fact usually, not only do we get a deeper understanding of the question, but it reaffirms both our belief in the 1st place.
maybe those students should've hired you to write their essay. or maybe the school was looking for students who were willing to take the blame and accept the responsibility of their act they committed. which route would you have taken?
It's like if your car key worked for a guy's similar ignition, would it be illegal to drive off with his car?
your analogy is a bit off. it'd be more like me testing my key in your car door to find that my key can unlock your door. although not the best thing to do, especially if getting caught in the act may make you look like a thief, you personally haven't committed any crime. maybe attempted to, but not yet.
the students didn't modify anything on the application result, meaning that they did not steal the car in this case. they just basically peeped inside the car and the parent basically said some of the blame should be put on the car maker for issuing a similar enough key so that you can open other people's door.
this is basically security by obscurity, which is basically not security at all. as the parent also mentioned, the application company (car company in your analogy) should've had more restrictive access.
i'm not sure who created the javascript language, but like css and html, isn't there a group that controls and maintains javascript upgrades and extensions? it's nice that mozilla made some useful extensions, but unless the rest of the browser market follows, it'll become a useless feature.
right now, javascript is @ 1.2 (i may be wrong about this). why not make a javascript 1.3 that includes these extra features. i mean, it's like microsoft ie supporting some weird formatting and standard which breaks every other browser. people complain about that, but when mozilla does the same thing, people don't?
some are going to say, in javascript, you can check to see which browser people are using and code according. if that was the case, i'd be coding twice, one for mozilla/firefox, the one for the rest of the browsers, which basically defeats the purposes of these "extensions".
i'm okay with keanu reeves acting in the matrix series. i'm okay with with arnold schwarzenegger's performance in the terminator movies.
like you said, sci-fi movies don't have amazing acting, but they don't have ricockulous acting that i couldn't believe even natilie portman gave. it was very painful (or maybe hilarious) to watch their acting on screen. it was so forced! it was like they were given several lines and then told to start shooting w/o any practice.
people hardly say w00t in real life. maybe we shoud get out more. it just reconfirms how geeky we are. i see w00t on instant messages all the time, but i don't think i've heard it more than once or twice in real life, while the other words like ginormous or confuzzle i can see people using it and saying, is this a real word?
to get us to watch the movie again to boost sales? the article is hosted on http://www.starwars.com/ and tells us of all the goodies we missed. the storyline and battle sequences were great and all, but i dunno if i can handle the poor acting again. maybe if they stripped away all the acting sequences and only put on the battle sequences.
yah! they should make a battle only star wars ep iii dvd. i'd so buy that!
anyone ever wonder how they chose these movies. based on what criteria did they chose it. the opening weekend sales? the total sales? user reviews? scoring by critics? it'd be nice if they told us how they chose these instead of randomly throwing a list of 100 at us.
downloading spyware and adware all the time. i personally don't know how old this kid is, but maybe he shouldn't be giving her that much permission or access rights. my sister used to have a computer filled with spyware/adware, almost rendering it unusable. she begged me to fix it and i made her promise me to never use internet explorer again (unless a site she needed didnt work in firefox) and to not install random crap. she promised me and since then, she has not gotten a single spyware or adware on her computer. you can blame windows for being insecure, but i think most of the blame goes on the user and those malware programmers. certainly, the os could've taken extra steps to protect the user, but with education on software usage and virus/malware avoidance, i can proudly say, my father's computer, my brother's computer, my sister's computer, all of my computers, and most of my inner circle of friends' computers are free of such bugs.
I agree completely with what you said. What suprnova and the others did wrong was that they categorized stuff into illegal contents like Movies, Music, Games, Software, etc. What this search engine does is exactly what Google does, but instead of finding webpages, it finds torrent files.
The IBM Xenon wants to piggyback off Intel Xeon brand name. Honestly, when I first heard of Xeon, I was googling Xenon cause that word was more familiar with me. After google suggested "Intel Xeon" was the only then I realized that Xeon was the correct spelling.
there are some things i'd like to comment on the keyboard.
1st thing is that they did the backspace and enter keys correctly. i hate giant enter keys which then pushes the \ up and makes the backspace key tiny which even after months of training i'd still miss the backspace and hit the \.
2nd, is they should also come out with a ergonomic layout for those who prefer that way.
3rd, what's with the $80 price tag? there's nothing special about this keyboard besides the springs. and the weighted springs system really cost the extra $70?!?! i mean, instead of rubbing off all the letters with a eraser or scraper, one can easily swap keys around and that'll force you to learn where the keys are instinctively, instead of looking down @ your keyboard.
finally, for the geeks (you don't even need to be uber). how often do you look down @ your keybaord? i mean i typed this entire comment w/o looking down at my keyboard once. the letters really aren't there for us, but for the people who might use our computer.
That's not exactly true. I've worked at a University Campus and the department I worked in was all about Windows. There were a few mac users, but our support to them was limited and during my stay, 1 of the 4 mac users went to a different department. 1 got switched to Windows, and the other 2 are pending.
One of my colleagues even said that microsoft has a solution for every need that he'll ever have. This was in response to me installing firefox into many computers.;p
But as I was saying, all the servers we run are Windows 2003. Most of the computers we run are Windows XP. I'm not sure if this is true, but one of them said when they build small business servers for outside contracts, things just work.
Btw, have you seen the outlook exchange server (where you can access your email data directly through a webpage that has an interface that looks EXACTLY like Outlook). How neat is that!?!?! i was first shown it a couple months ago and was amazed!
I don't really know why netcraft needs to be in the form of a toolbar. Why can't it be like AdBlock and put a small icon in lower right corner. I mean, it's not like a search engine where you actually need to have much intereaction with it.
instead i suggest that they have a small icon on the lower right corner as suggested before. when the user is trying to access a known phishing site, either pop up a error box asking if user would like to continue, or redirect them to warning page. to submit phising sites to netcraft, you can easily add netcraft menu on the right click (like how you blocking ads in adblock works) and within that menu, you can submit the site.
Haha! Either Eric Schmidt or Larry Page should give talks at universities about how Windows OS will no longer hold the majority of PCs hostage in 5 years or less. Obviously, an operating system is a crucial component of everyday computing and people are more and more aware about security issues and how Windows OS is ridden with security vulnerabities. Then they should announce Google OS and how that would be the future and the upcoming wave.;p
if MSIE was a seperate app that didn't have ties to the actual OS, then all these security vulnerabilities wouldn't have existed in the 1st place. i'm guessing they really wanted to integrate their software and make it easier to use and allow for windows updates and etc.
personally, i think they should've made MSIE a seperate program altogether and avoid all these problems. windows update can be a seperate program that you find in accessories->system tools->windows update. but if that was the case, they wouldn't have been allowed to bundle ie with windows. i guess there were trade-offs in doing it this way.
I know you're allowed to make backups of games, movies, audio cds that you own. Is it illegal to have someone who owns the exact same thing help you make a backup because you don't own the technological means to back something up?
meaning let's say i recently purchased the firefly tv series on dvd. i'm paranoid that somehow these dvds may get scratched and damaged so i want a backup of it before anything happens. i don't have a dvd burner, but i know a friend does. can i bring over my dvds and ask him to help me create a backup? now taking this a step further, let's assume my friend already has his own set of the firefly tv series on dvd. is it illegal then to ask him to duplicate his copy so i won't have to bring mine over. the end result is the same, but the mean is slightly different in which my friend is using his dvd set to backup instead of mine.
to translate this over to the tv scenario. i purchase cable tv and so this my friend. i'm legally allowed to record stuff from tv onto tape or harddrive, but i personally don't own a vcr or tivo or dvr. However, my friend owns a vcr and i asked if he could help me record something (note that both of us has access to the source and both of us are legally allowed to record the source). is that really illegal then because he's not using my source to make a recording for me? as stated before, the end results are the same, it's just the means are slightly different.
A problem with supporting bittorrent is now you introduce bittorrent to a bunch of users who've never heard of it before. The unkowing users now decide to give it a try since their tv show is available to be downloaded.
once you learn bittorrent once, you know how to use it. i doubt tv networks owned by the MPAA would appreciate helping bittorrent grow even bigger.
besides the fact that it'll be in competition with their affiliates as someone before mentioned, they'll also be competing against dvd sales (or as they claim).

Additional Features: Get all the features you expect, including enhanced spell-checking, auto-addressing, rich-text formatting, message signatures and more! * If you have an AOL screen name, you can already enjoy all of these benefits and more using AOL.com mail.
first of all, are we getting a real email address? ie (screenname@aim.com) which you can give to people where they can email you directly without going through aim.
second the feature sounds awfully like icq or msn where when someone's offline, you can send them a message to their inbox.
third, will i be able to access the email without using aim's software (ie through webmail or a pop3/imap client). i'd hate to be restricted to 1 program for my email.
some things unmentioned instills mystery into the reader. having stuff said out blatantly all the time is no fun. it's sorta like lingerie and women. there's just something very sexy about a woman wearing lingerie that's not the same as a fully nude woman. a fully nude woman no longer has the mysterious effect anymore for the same exact reason.
that's not AI. that's just playing against other live human beings, which tons of games already support multiplayers. ;p
