(the mnemonic "King Philip Cried Out For Goodness Sake" comes to mind - the order is kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species)
that's what they taught you in school? we got to learn the real version where King Phillip Calls Out For Great Se... (you can figure the last character);p
It will be great comedy adventure about a pre-historic culture clash between two tribes, one comparatively evolved tribe, and one un-evolved tribe...Some might consider one tribe might be the English, and some might consider that the other to be the French, the Gauls...Let's just say it's the start of the Entente Cordial and it explains why the English Channel is there.
Honestly, I don't think easy mod ability has much to do with game sales. In fact if you take a look at PSX (probably one of the 1st systems to ever get modded big time) outsold both the Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64 in both games and units.
However, then we have the Sega Dreamcast case where only a bootdisc was required (modding wasn't even required) and they failed horribly. They had tons of good games, but I believe their marketing strategy went kaput and they finally gave up on the hardware business. Maybe someone can fill in the real case here.
Honestly, how many people do you know owns a system, but doesn't own any real games. People purchase games like people purchase dvds. It's a collectors thing + it feels good to own the real thing.
Let's assume only 30% of the games out there are purchased for a particular system. If my unit sales is over 4x the next competing brand, this system will be a very desirable candidate to program for, cause not only will they be able to make more money, more people will actually play the game and spread the word (assuming the game is worth spreading the word for).
just outta curiousity, linux and mac virii exist too. but does Apple or any linux distro provide a free antivirus software along with their OS?
of course their are alternatives like norton and even free alternatives like AVP, but that doesn't change the fact that an OS should not need any antivirus software.
a steel or titanium or whatever hard to puncture metallic box around the Lithium-Ion battery. but then again, some idiot will find a way to break into it and blow himself up into pieces. might as well save the metal and keep the ipod lighter.
as i stated in my original post, the content of the documents, websites, etc will still be accessible in its original language. however, it's the file menus, help files, program lists, and os relating feature including configurations and settings, will only be accessible in a particular language.
of course this doesn't really limit much. you'd still be able to use the entire OS like if it was any other language, but it becomes a hassle if the language it's on isn't the one you know too well. imagine trying to configure any internet program that's in another language. it becomes quite a difficult task if you're not knowledgable in their technological jargon.
is Firefly based off a book? comic book? something else? or is it one of Joss Wheydon's own creation and the first medium was a tv series followed by now a movie.
I was just curious if the movie actually develops the story or is it a side story that doesn't have to deal much with the main storyline (meaning that one can watch the series and future series w/o watching the movie).
I'm personally a big FireFly fan and also a big anime fan, but I've been disappointed by anime movies once too often. Anime companies try to squeeze as much money out as possible from a successful anime series by creating movies and what ends up happening is a bad story that doesn't fit anywhere on the storyline. As many of you may know, anime series are usually base off of a manga series, but an anime movie usually is a storyline developed not by the original manga author.
What I'm saying is I hope that Serenity's storyline fits with the rest of the story and isn't just some random story made up just for a movie where the series can do without.
What Microsoft can offer for a cheaper price is not a crippled version, but a full version of the OS but only supporting 1 language. This can be Indian, Thai, Chinese, German, French, etc. etc. Just strip away the possibility of adding another language to the OS and you're set! I'm not saying it shouldn't display different languages on different websites and programs, but the core functionality like help files, file menus, program menu, settings and configurations, can only display 1 language. If so, the market for the multi-language version won't go and purchase the cheaper versions from country X given that there it only supports 1 language now, and most likely not english.
You can sell the 1 language version all you want. What you'll end up doing is selling to the market where people speak the same language. I understand multiple countries sometimes speak the same language (ie most of s. america and spain) and their versions might be compatible. maybe someone has a suggestion to improve upon this or why this won't work.
What is Google Scholar?
Google Scholar enables you to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web.
asking for help through online forums regarding microsoft products. I've personally never contacted microsoft helpdesk regaring any of their products. as you said, a simple query on google will return an abudant amount of support for most problems. i can't see how you only found these online support communities to exist only for OSS while you weren't able to do the same with microsoft products given that so many people use it.
the more people that use a software, the more and the bigger the online support communities there will be. that's why when people ask me if they should switch to apple, i tell them it's got tons of nice features, realibity, and even a unix backend to it, but one thing it really lacks is support (compared to windows). i don't know about you, but if i needed to troubleshoot windows, it's a lot easier to find someone with the knowledge than finding someone to help you troubleshoot a mac. i know i may receive bad karma for saying something like that. however, as i stated before, more users = more support. and if more people use OSS, that just means that the online support community will increase.
i'm not too sure when i saw this, but it was probably 8 years ago. there was a guy known online as Dr. Freeze and he had a site filled with pics of his submersion. He had bought like 3 bottles of mineral oil and submerged his motherboard and etc inside a styrofoam box. He also had a air pump. Later on in the pictures, he took apart his a/c and turned it on flew blast.
I used to have the pictures, but it's been too long and probably lost during one of my hdd crashes. if you google "dr freeeze" and "minieral oil", you can see people talking about him.
don't you get it? this is how symantec views the world. they believe everyone is using their software. they believe that in their ideal world, that virii and worms exist, but is not a problem that can't be solved and is solvable. they believe that when such a worm gets released, their stock prices will go up and more of their software will be sold.
they believe if you use norton av, then the maximum # of days your computer can be affected is 20days (the maximum time they forsee themselves to write a patch and spread it to customers). they're not accounting for anyone that uses AVP or McAfee or anyone that's not using norton av.
so basically it's an advertisement saying, with norton av, you can only be affected for 20 days, MAX. so go out there and install norton av or upgrade to the newest version if you haven't already!
i hate the globe part of the program. it's bad interface imo. all the fun stuff happens when i'm stuck on part of the ocean. should've made a pause button and rotate left/right for the globe.
i wonder if they'll provide support to burn dvds if they do decide to offer movie downloads, sort of like how they're supporting burning cds (5 per song) when you download music from them.
How is this a lock in when iTunes allows you to burn the music you purchase onto CD and with that CD you can import into any format you want/prefer and onto any other mp3 player you would like to.
How many bosses do you think out there read slashdot? How many of them do you think are nuts? How many of them do you think recently received a notice of leave from one of their employees and have been doing the aforementioned?
I think a lot of bosses are going to be going crazy over this wondering if it was 'their' employee that posted this. so anyone out there that is in a similar situation as the poster, WATCH OUT!
those japanese high school kids have crazy speeds at text messaging. ooopz, i forgot, you cant do japanese or any other non alphabetical language w/ morse code.
but snitches and all other low scum are probably most likely to outlive any high and mighty. it's all about survival of the fittest and lying and snitching (although condone) is a technique for survival.
Just for a clarification, what the OP meant to say was that most of the job losses will occur in Europe. When I initially read it, it was ambiguous if the jobs would be moving to Europe or would be leaving Europe.
Countries like Korea and Japan are densely populated so rolling out broadband technology is going to be a lot easier than rolling out broadband technology out in Montana or North Dakota.
If both percentage and actual count aren't good measurements, what exactly is then?

As of today it looks like the DOJ was 100% correct.
;p
I think DOJ was only 90% correct.

According to Lessons from South Korea: When Broadband Meets the Mass Market, South Korea has over 50% (8.5 million) of their population on broadband.
Countries like Korea and Japan are densely populated so rolling out broadband technology is going to be a lot easier than rolling out broadband technology out in Montana or North Dakota.
