Are You so sure they won't "win"? They're working on that damn Palladium cruft that will make all Open Source software either expensive or just plain gone from their platform, and don't think they won't get away with it. In the name of "security" most managers will gladly purchase any palladium machine.

I imagine Management going someething like this:
"-No viruses can run on this machine, ever again You say? Wonderful, viruses costs us $X/year, we'll have 3000 of those computers"

When big buissness has bought enough computers (and they will) most consumers (that don't have a clue anyway) will purchase their own Palladium machine, and pretty soon You won't be able to log into Hotmail, Your bank or wherever without your Palladium enabled machine.

I can't believe that US:DOJ/DOC agreed to this.
I'm already thinking about another career, perhaps management? It would be interesting to see performance #'s on these things. They're "only" running at 500mhz, so how do they compare to other MIPS based cpu's? Basically, just how good is there engineering. It's nice for the Chinese to have a home grown cpu to use in their home grown machines, but so far it looks like a major yawn in relation to the overall cpu market.

Tell that to SGI. They're the ones that own MIPS Technologies. All SGI-machines that run IRIX runs on MIPS-processors and they do it damn well. The latest chip is a 600MHz, but those 600MHz can't be compared to Intel/AMD-MHz since the architecture is different.

Also these machines consume a fraction of the power that Intel/AMD does, I think the latest Pentium weighs in at about 130W and the latest (R14000 or R16000) at 16W, and in this case bigger is not better.
This means that You can put a lot of CPU's in one machine and get less powerconsumtion and less heat.
Combine this with SGI's kickass architecture with good interconnect and You've got a really good machine. SGI has no equal when it comes to fluid dynamics calculations as an example. No, linux doesn't come close (yet), although the Altrix looks promising.

And yes, I know, SGI is too expensive to justify the cost in most cases. Unfortunatly.

This is going to change fast, thanks to Safari. Whenever a page looks incorrect or doesn't function in Safari, click the little bug icon in the upper-right corner, and it pops up a dialog where you can send feedback directly to Apple's Safari team. It can optionally include a screenshot of the page.

Now this would be a killer app for Mozilla-like browsers. Whenever something doesn't look right, You can popup a dialog with a screenshot and some text explaining that the page is "broken" in some way.

Not many people can be bothered to take a screenshot, start a mail-client, write a letter explaining what the problem is, mail the letter and screenshot to "www.broken-site.com".

If 90% of this is already done and all the user had to do was to provide a name and where to send the complaint, I bet we'd see a lot of changes in the web-world.
