  1. I for one welcome our easily distracted gamers on Hardcore Gamers on the Decline? · · Score: 1

AKA casual gamers and thank our new overlords ... oh, a shiny penny! my, back when I was a kid, a penny could buy you two pieces of gum or if you had two you could get some candy, and just five and you had a whole bottle of coke ...

Um, yeah, casual gamers - it's a lot like being in a candy store. Unlike those hard core gamers who need to buy lots of Depends and energy drinks.

But, on the bright side, lots of pretty women and girls in the casual gaming camp, and ... well, you know, there are more important things than gaming, if you get my drift ...

    VD Day!

Look, people I trust - including some I used to be in a club with and hung out at their house a lot - have been writing reviews saying if you actually enable the full WinVista, the bare minimum is 1 GB, but the realistic load is more like 2 GB.

We can argue about it - or you can realize that most reviewers are saying this and deal with reality.

That said, though... Guitar Hero on Wii. That single game was the biggest reason I've been tempted, for a long time, to buy a PS2 (there are other games I might play, but nothing else that was worth buying the system). Now, I know I can have it anyway if I just hold out a little while longer.

I agree. I actually have a PS2, but just the idea that I can get Guitar Hero on my Wii makes me want to buy that as well. All the cool girls I know love it.

Let's not fight over our personal perceptions of what is suitable OS load - I think I should be able to run a game, have multiple office aps open in the background, and do an automatic file transfer in the background while I'm streaming a full video in a small window on my OS - without disk thrashing.

You have to wonder why Apple would even try to fix bugs that will just be fixed by MSFT in Service Pack 4 for WinVista in the first place.

Seriously, adoption projections have at most 10 percent of Business users adopting WinVista in 2007 - and that's higher than projected Consumer adoption of this "upgraded" OS that requires you to replace all your hardware just to get what you could get in the Mac OS two years ago.

If you're talking about the new console Baldurs Gates that are trying to be bad imitations of the original Diablo, they suck and still don't have as good of graphics as Oblivion.

I don't know about that. We popped in a GameCube version of Baldur's Gate into our Wii, and with the extra 2GB memory we got it not only loaded faster, but the graphics showed up way better, with no lag or shimmer or other artifacts. So, just going to a new system can sometimes dramatically improve gameplay and graphics - same would be true of a PS2 game on the PS3 or an xBox game on the 360, mostly due to better graphics, faster loads, and more memory.

  20. How does it look eight feet away on a 480p TV? on PS3 Oblivion Approaching PC Quality Visuals · · Score: 1

And should I even care about it, as a result? From what I've heard, the difference between modern digital TVs (480p) and 1080i or 1080p HDTV sets is pretty minimal unless you're either sitting closer than 4 feet or are sitting 6-8 feet away with more than 40 inch 1080p HDTV.

And isn't one of those games, Call of Duty 3, available on the 360, PS3, and the Wii - so why no Wii comparison?

Can someone please name ONE game that the Wii has that is worth playing?

OK, I'm not a fanboi, but I do have a Wii and I can tell you my reaction to the games.

Top of the line (5 stars): Zelda, Wii Sports (sorry, it's just fun), Trauma Center: 2nd Opinion, Rayman's Raving Rabbids (much more fun on the Wii).

Good (4 stars): Excite Truck, Elebits (yes, I know the voiceover sux, but that's all), any of your GC games you loved (ran Sims 2: Pets and the graphics were so much better on my Wii with 2GB card and no load times or glitches like on my xBox or PS2 or GC)

Um. sorry, those are all the games I've tried. After seeing Red Steel at demo and hearing friends, I skipped it.

Kind of surprised no turkeys so far - I'm sure there are some, but I don't play sports (except maybe FIFA 07 or NHL 07 or if they come out with Cricket 07 or Rugby 07) and mostly avoid FPS (thinking of Call of Duty which is on the Wii I think).

Hope this helps. And it's not just me, I've seen some major reviews bash the PS3 games. Think most of the kinks are worked out of the xBox360, but not real into most of the games on that (if I was sports or FPS, it's a good choice).

Wishful thinking on my part, I guess. But they did have Wii controllers in reasonable supply too.

They said they would probably have sufficient stock by March for the Wii when I asked them at the Costco down south of the stadiums. But that was a month ago.

No, the thing is, this is the first time I've seen any Wii consoles that weren't already about to be sold. I see stacks of PS3 consoles all the time at various locations here, but every time I've seen a Wii, it's in the process of being bought out by someone within a few minutes of appearing.

That was why it was unusual. Just the concept that they actually had more than one.
