I'll back you up on that, having lived in nearby Longview, Texas and having been to Marshall. It's a pretty economically depressed town, with few technically literate people. Not that there's nothing good about it, but it's nothing like Tokyo (where I'm from).
That's a nice anecdote. It's simply not true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usa%2C_%C5%8Cita mentions that Usa has been so named since the 8th Century, and has never been a big industrial city.
The difference is that analog and digital photographs can coexist in the same world rather easily. The main reason that the government is pushing the switch to digital TV is spectrum conservation. Since DTV uses less radio spectrum than analog, we can have the same number of channels taking up less space, which allows for the big 700 MHz spectrum auction that we've been hearing about (and that Google is interested in).
I've been to Sparta a number of times myself (they have cheap ice cream and fishing in the area), and I'd have to agree with you. There's almost nothing worthwhile for the cops to do, so they get their ego trips on busting people. Even when the person's computer picks up a publicly broadcasted SSID, asks for an IP address, is granted it, and then proceeds to perform perfectly legal activity over the connection he has been granted.
To force-eject a CD in OS X doesn't even require using a paper clip (good thing, too, as not all Macs have the paper clip eject). There's a terminal command here that I've found helpful.
What happens if you accidentally hit delete and don't notice it? Do you think everyone checks the contents of their recycle bin/trash can before emptying it?
I'm in the same situation, at LeTourneau University, where a full half of the students are engineering/engineering tech majors. It's a great way to focus on what's important to me. Of course, there are several times more guys than girls...
More PPC Linux distros would be welcome. Yellow Dog Linux is doing pretty well, but IBM-backed competition would liven up the market pretty well.
I do have to wonder what you mean when you say that Apple's OS is "hacked (thrown together)"
According to apple's site, the iPod is compatible with
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF
AAC by itself isn't proprietary, and MP3 is a standard.

I'm a religious nut, but I absolutely agree with you. Nudity isn't porn. And not all porn involves nudity. It's all in the way the content is used.
They have high quality pr0n now? Back when I was a kid, there were no humans to copulate with, and the only lubricant we had was molten rock!

You're obviously not in Canada...

Meh. Who needs precision in space?
And hams can use up to 1500 watts of power...if they have a power supply that big while out walking.
Just Imagine a beowulf cluster of them... Or not.
How does it fix prices, if there aren't any?
We can only hope they don't have a companion DiVX player that will put in used sour cream...
Well, you're correct. But it's only as proprietary as is MP3 and WMA.

But how else will we reverse the slashdot effect?
This wouldn't work well for when you're passing someone on the highway, when you should be going faster.
That's great to hear.
Maybe it's because his wang is too small.
