I think I shouldn't buy my future kids laptops! When they have earned the money for them with jobs and hard work, then they should buy their own. Until then it is the school's responsibility to give them the material necessary to learn (within reason). Forcing parents to buy a laptop is ridiculous - not to mention unfair - we're not talking about springing for a calculator, this is an expensive bit of equipment.
Outrage? Sure. Just like CardSystems and it's 40 million snafoo. There was a big stink about it for a little while but after that, it died down. Has Congress done anything about it? No. Has Congress passed stringent laws protecting privacy since then? No.
I think it's art.
As a programmer I make my code nice and neat, indented tabs, easy to read and so forth. If I was only doing it for myself, wouldn't I just write it willy nilly with no order?
Also - the programming means I take to achieve a goal can be reproduced, but in a wholly different way by another programmer.
Some programmers make their code truly elegant, minimalist in nature, sometimes obfuscating or cryptic, the methods and means are too numerous to count.
I think the problem with Orlando is like someone mentioned earlier, people go out to enjoy the weather, eat, drink coffee, meet people and whatnot. Orlando just isn't a good place to have wi-fi, it's not a major metropolitan center with big firms and lots of businesspeople with laptops who'll make use of it.
And, like you said, no-one knows about it. I live north of Orlando and I never heard of it or read about it.
In war we are all guilty. Guilty for letting the light of reason splutter and fail, inviting in the forces of chaos and hate.
But, if you must choose war, choose total war. Any war fought haphazardly and without conviction is going to lead inexorably to a doomed end. Killing an enemy soldier is good as he might kill 5 of your nation's soldiers. Killing a citizen making the bombs or making the planes, is just as good, as those bombs or planes might killed tens or hundreds of your nation's soldiers.
But when you get down to it, "guilty" really is just a point of view, usually forced upon the vanquished by the victors. Do Americans feel guilty for making and dropping an atomic bomb or carpet-bombing Vietnam where little children might burn to death? Or do the Japanese feel guilty for force marching prisoners-of-war to prison camps in order to thin them out or executing prisoners out of hand because they feel like it? Frankly, I doubt either do, and that's why wars must be a last resort for anyone, as it makes monsters of all of us.
Blogs are the new media - that's the ONE explanation why so many journalists are now blogging, because they don't want to be left behind and become an anachronism in a new age. Don't take the media giants seriously though folks, they're doing it only for the money or because they have to (Huffington, Brian Williams etc). Find the real bloggers, kottke, sullivan, boing boing, captains quarters, those are the driving forces of blogging.
Frankly I think that searching and the results from searching, are limited by the searcher. If someone wants to search for something complex then they should learn to use the rules of the search engine. Using quotes properly (terms inside of quotes, i.e., "prime numbers"), or putting period marks at the end of words, they're simnple rules and can completely change the way you search. But it's not in the search engine's interests to help, as the more searching gets done, the more advertising can be delivered.
I agree. Don't use IE, don't develop in it, tell people on your web pages to get a decent browser. Eventually Microsoft will get with the crowd and stop trying to control standards and actually conform to them.
No way! You actually sound surprised that a corporate giant who is only blogging as a PR technique is deleting negative comments that might affect their public image! Gosh what's next, politicians saying bad things about each other?

That is awesome! Give that man a prize!

Yeah me too! BBC news is pretty good, quality isn't too hot sometimes, but at least they give you the news rather than an opinion on the news.

Ye Gods! How DARE people be satisfied with a fairly stable OS in favor of one that is possibly even buggier than XP!?

Well here's a thought: a pad of paper and a pencil, very cheap, very portable!
No way! You actually sound surprised that a corporate giant who is only blogging as a PR technique is deleting negative comments that might affect their public image! Gosh what's next, politicians saying bad things about each other?
lol
Yeah but, come on, $100?! Inflation must be "stiff" where he is!
You'd pay $100 for a blowjob? Man you're getting f***ed too...
