It sounds like the Internet Channel doesn't actually have Flash 9 either. It has Flash Lite 3 which is similar but lacks support for ActionScript 3.

I find when people say "Wii Keyboard" they are usually referring to a small Logitech keyboard (that comes in USB or wireless) that has been marketed as a console specific keyboard since the Playstation 2. The only difference is the wireless version available now (comes with its own USB wireless receiver, it isn't detected as a controller) and it is white with custom button printing to make it clear what keyboard keys reproduce WiiMote buttons.

I own the Playstation 2 version. Depending on your tastes its not that bad. I like laptop style keys and small, easy to carry keyboards. I bought mine for $5 though, not $15.

Opera definitely faces issues like this regularly. Sites like that are so full of nonstandard styling that it starts to lose it. Firefox has reached the point where sites like that use the CSS hacks for mozilla/firefox browsers to get things looking right, doing the same thing to web standards that IE has always done.

Opera's focus on following standards often comes back to bite it in the ass.

It really is unfortunate that Nintendo said no to tabs on the Wii. I use a page that simulates tabs to have a few pages open at once (they are just loaded into iframes with tabs that switch between them). The machine starts to chug real bad at 3 tabs if they all have flash or 6 tabs if they don't. I think a browser would have to be built from the ground up for the Wii for it to really feel good and useful (although I do actually enjoy browsing on the Wii).

My first reaction to reading Bezos' apology, especially the part where he says this is out of line with Amazon's principles, was to wonder why the remote erasure ability is there at all. But if you have the ability to get a refund on your purchase and have them take the ebook back, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for posting that info.

But I don't think enough people use the Zune Marketplace for the popular opinion to be informed of that. Not saying thats a bad thing, use of it is personal preference, but I get the feeling thats happening a lot since a lot of people here seem to think all music on there is locked down with DRM.

You can go to the Zune Marketplace and just buy DRM-free MP3s if you want to as well. ZunePass is just a different way of accessing it. There is DRMed music there too. I rarely find that the a particular song I want on there has DRM, but it is there. When I encounter it, I try Amazon instead.

Companies like Microsoft wish they were patenting as much stuff as IBM does and I firmly believe the drive to patent everything in sight that we see in so many companies is spurred on by the fact that they are all trying to catch up with IBM.

I don't automatically believe this will be bad, but its hard to ignore the possibility that this could be giving the fat kid the key to the candy store.

The pessimist in me can't stop thinking that the only reason people don't seem to be as critical of IBM's massive patenting efforts despite the gap between them and 2nd place (Samsung now I believe) in the patenting world is that they've done the good PR of supporting OSS publicly while grabbing up all the IP they can for themselves.

For standards support, both in the browser and fighting to get recognition for standards as well as helping to define them and improve them, you can't get much better than Opera.

Opera 10 is dramatically outshining everything they did in Opera 9.x. 9.x actually led me to try Chrome out more regularly because of performance and stability issues (at least on a modern computer). Opera 10 has been a dream.

On my older computers I don't really have another option. I run 500Mhz Celeron comps with 64-128MB RAM running Damn Small Linux regularly. Firefox barely runs with one tab on those systems while Opera is still quick with 4 or 5 tabs. The difference is night and day.

Mileage always varies. I use Opera because if I open up 6 or 7 tabs of the pages I usually visit in Opera, it takes up 90 megs of RAM. If I open them in Firefox they take up around 750 megs. For others the results could probably be the exact opposite.

I will say that, as a long time Opera user, Opera 10 is turning into one of the best releases they've ever done. It outperforms Opera 9.x in any way that matters to me. Speed, memory usage, stability. 9.6 was starting to get on my nerves and I was beginning to use Chrome more and more. But 10 has been a dream.
