You are correct on that statement, and legally, it is not and never has been. (just in case you were confused).
"Gotta love the Solaris fanatics."
Though I appreciate your distain for Solaris supporters, I really don't think that there is an OS out there that can cliam 'no problems.' Solaris, like BSD, Linux, HPUX, AIX, all have their issues at some point. You also have to understand that linux has not been where it is now. So you have many a server floor out there with plenty of stable and secure Solaris systems that have been running for years and changing them out for the sake of "this system installes software 10 minutes faster" is not very feasable. Normally, there are numerous checks prior to any patch/package going on a production server (or so I'd hope), running in a lab environment, verifying operational capabilities, etc. It has little to do with ease of installation, but with knowing the system. Some consider this stovepiping though.
And technically, Solaris Zones/Containers came from BSD chroot jails and they function very similar.
I guess Walmart, McDonalds, and the like are adding classes that teach proper greeting methods, technical aspects of french fries, and different layouts of cash registers.
"There are lots of public toll roads in the US, and lots of them are in New York."
True statement, and I have driven on many of them, being an EZPass holder.
"While I'm not at all sure I like this particular plan, I also recognize the need (in general) to balance the public's right of access to public resources, against the public representative's duty to manage these resources efficiently so that they remain useful."
With any toll road, you are adding additional funds to the states particular highway funds which are going where? Secondly, you are discriminating access to public services/resources based upon financial status. I know it's done all of the time, but it isn't right.
I think the money would be better spent for proper traffic management systems, not charging tolls on roads. Treat it like the network, throttle the number of cars to a particular road and redirect other vehicles to other traffic patterns. Charging tolls will only cause congestion at other locations. The problem still exsists. Unless you would want to fine people who want to drive their car. You call that a privilage?

Is how there is not any outrage, but there is acceptability, for the corupt nature of the whole situation. Gas taxes are supposed to pay for roads (maint & repair). That would go to figure, you use public roads, you should pay for them. But now here's a situation where the Federal Govt is giving NY 300+ million to charge people more money to use _PUBLIC_ roads. I guess "Public" no longer means paid for by the people's taxes, but means, paid for by the people's taxes, and rented out to the folks who can afford it.
Rerouting congestion does not solve the problem. NIMBY all over again. Those cars have to go somewhere. And as for the folks who think that public transportation is good enough, that could be viewed as another freedom taken away. Folks drive for many reasons, one being a sense of going where they want, when they want.
True. And it's supposed to be self-regulating. However the 'trapping' capabilities of water vapor, I think, is higher then that of CO2. So if all CO2 Engines were to output water vapor would that do more or less damage?
If I'm not mistaken (which happens often), you'd have an accelerated green house affect. I think H2O vapor has a higher green house affect then that of CO2.

"Building" a computer this is not. It is "assembling" a computer. Go get blank chips, resistors, capacitors, boards, volt meter, and use your soldering iron to "Build" a system. If you have a bunch of cards and an empty case, that is "assembling."
Until systems are cheap enough and treated like a cell phone, I guess this qualifies as 'building' for most folks.
And has been for quite a while. Shops I know of who are not already utilizing Open Source are moving there as quickly as possible. Management realizes the value of having some control over the code is a good thing.

As easy as it is to condem the current administration, lets not forget that that position has the power it does because the collective slowly gave up power to the Executive branch. Folks can scream all they want about "I didn't give them power," but in reality, those were the minority. Sorry folks, a Majority on/. is still a minority. And you can take all the 'polls' you want, data can be slanted in any direction with those (1 out of 5 doctors say so).

Each party's agenda is priority one for each of the respective parties, an none of them include you (the individual).
And for the nieve in the audience, this type of stuff probably has been going on for years in the Government. I'm not defending it, I'm just making sure you don't get on the media train again and realize that the republicans or Bush just invented this type of thing. (Vince Foster anyone?)
Bitter and negative you say? Yeah, probably. I call it reality.
"Ok well for that price, we can literally buy a new fairly high performance server from someone like Dell or Gateway (with a 3 year warranty)."
It's all realative. Your 'high performance' Dell or Gateway wouldn't do much other then run bind at one of our locations. You are comparing apples to oranges. These systems are not for you to surf the net with, and as for price, well there is a lot to be gained from stability. I still have sparc systems with OEM (minus the disks) that are close to 20 years old running at some locations. Bet your Dell can't say that.
To see how the hell they are going to have a person walk up to an ATM, and wait for the system to search through potentially billions (or trillions) of biometrics datapoints while it looks for an exact match. Then the system will have to re-run the search so it is sure it has the proper account. This all because some school wants to rid the world of a key (credit/atm card and pin).
Now if you enhance the credit/atm card with a biometric to ensure that the owner of the card is the one using it, that would be a more logical target. The CC/ATM number + pin would have a biometric record to pull and compare. Much quicker and still adding quite a bit of security to the accounts.
