So does the "Star Wars Christmas Special" count as canon? It is, after all, a movie... of sorts.

The fact that a completely fictional universe even has a notion of "canon" goes to show just how deep in Lucas' pocket so many fans are.

If he were so concerned about the continuity, integrity, and quality of his little universe to begin with, he would never have allowed all those "non-canonical" profit mines to have been dug in the first place.

You can't have it both ways: Either your art is a thing in and unto itself for its own sake (however stimulating it might be to outside contribution,) or it's a calculated commercial project designed not for any internal continuity or viewer-enlightenment/satisfaction, but only to encourage the sort of fetishism that translates to "spending lots of money on 'collectible' crap." I think Lucas has made it abundantly clear which side of that particular fence he walks his dog on.

Inter-state agreements are the way they get around this. My mom bought a car in Pennsylvania and paid the sales tax there. When she brought it to New York, she had to pay the difference between the Pennsylvania tax and the higher New York tax upon registration.

While this clearly violates the spirit of the commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution, it actually dances around it, because the two states have an agreement with each other, so New York isn't technically "regulating" the interstate commerce in question. I don't know what Pennsylvania gets out of the deal. Maybe the agreement includes some provision for revenue sharing. In any case, this kind of collusion should be illegal.

It's not based on whether they have "personnel" in your state, it's whether they have a business presence. Before Apple opened Apple Stores in NY, they didn't have to collect sales tax on orders from NY. Now they do.

I'm not sure exactly what constitutes a "business presence"; it does encompass more than just retail outlets, but just having a PR office or helpdesk or something doesn't qualify.

If you really think that CMYK is nothing but a buzzword thrown around by marketing people, then you have no idea what you're talking about. Go talk to anyone who actually works in publishing or printing and tell them CMYK is a buzzword -- I'm sure they'll get a big laugh out of it. The point of being able to work in CMYK is that you get a very close representation of the printed color on screen. The limitations of a "luminous medium" in representing a reflective medium are minimal (can't show fluorescent or metallic inks); equating them with the inverse (trying to represent RGB with CMYK) is idiotic.

Now THATS reason number one for oldschool MacFreaks to eventually switch;their customers run windows, and are tired of converting files and disks. This is the stupidist thing from Apple since quicktime.
Sounds like Windows' problem to me. Mac OS has supported reading, writing, and formatting of MSDOSFS and ISO9660 for many many years now. Anyone getting a removable disk from a Mac user just needs to ask. Of course, with Sneakernet becoming more deprecated and unneccessary every passing day, "floppy compatibility" is hardly a compelling reason to switch OSes.
