Well for OS X they do have an Anti-virus . It's just that hardly anyone uses it . Which is their other great reason for spreading fear . The only use It has on OS X is for scanning files to go over a network and even then your better with something passive
I think you may be confusing Symantec with another company . Last I heard Symantec were a menace who enjoyed spreading fear so people would buy their security products (which in a lot of cases did more harm than good) .
That's Capitalism for you . If you can't compete then you will go out of business . No matter how many people try to call it communist it isn't.In a Free market (at least a partial free market) economy it is just another business . Under a Capitalist system it is just a different business model. So you would be better saying that "Open source defeats another competitor "
Though Opera is far from dead considering they make a good deal of cash from their other revenue sources. They are just on a more even playing field with every other browser now .
www.privoxy.org.. great local proxy for ad-blocking and a few other things . Requires a bit of RTFM but it will work with Linux , OS X and even windows and is highly customisable and the default configs are rather good (though you may want to alter the cookie settings).
No no.. now we can have a whole new set of conspiracy theories . EG: "Republicans tried to humiliate the democrats by making them appear to be cheats incase they won" "Democrats were secretly trying to turn the election , but failed due to incompetence " The list goes on and on.
It doesn't matter who won or lost , if there is a fault in the system it makes all the results (which were counted by the Diebold system) unreliable.Perhaps Bush won by a larger majority , perhaps he lost . Whatever the real result was, it is now unknown.. Even if it only resulted in 1000 miscounted votes , it is still a travesty
It all sounds like a music industry protection racket to me (MIE : Music industry executive.. PrM:Product manufacturer)
MIE : Hello Mr Jackson , Nice product you have here
Prm : Yeah it is , is it not
MIE:Shame if something would happen to it .
PrM: What like...
MIE: Well say some of your customers used it to break the law *MIE pushes one on to the floor*
MIE:Whoops Accidents will happen Mr Jackson . So we are proposing a little levy to cover you incase anything bad happens
PrM : GET OUT!
MIE:I will , but think about what i said.. you wouldn't want anything to happen to that nice shiny sports car out there.Say if the Boys (Accidentally) had to take it in lieu of a fine for facilitating copyright infringement.
The same thing happens with many closed source projects . Though the advantage of open source corpse-ware is that it can more easily be resurrected . Though I am not sure if its the majority of actual projects.. unless you count vapour-ware
I was hopping that they hit middle Age around 15.25 years ago .
I was also thinking... In the USA corporations are seen as people . So any other person with a record like Ms Microsoft would have spent about half her life in and out of prison .
In many ways there is little difference between a true liberal and a true(political ) conservative.. well bar perhaps the embracing of the new . Liberal is the antitheses of Authoritarian not conservative (as traditional values could be at one stage liberal and conservatism is seeking to preserve these things).I honestly don't mind paying fair taxes so long as the money is spent well and I have my fair say as to how it is spent.
Conservative and liberal have both had their meaning skewered over time . Mainly because of the Media and their logical fallacies. The political compass does not work as a 2d object in reality and people trying to pigeon hole things has caused confusion such as "All liberals are left wing hippies " and "all conservatives are greedy right wing fascists"
Fiscal conservatives defiantly , but liberal on social values.
Key tenets of the Libertarian Party platform include the following: a mostly unregulated free market economy, including support of the right to keep and bear arms, opposition to drug prohibition (see also: drug legalization), and elimination of the state-supported social welfare system.
strong civil liberties including free speech, freedom of association, sexual freedom, and a foreign policy of free trade, absolute non-intervention, and opposition to the initiation of force (particularly military) to attain goals.
It all comes down to the definition of Liberal. When I speak of Liberalism I am Meaning:Freedom of choice..As for the fiscal side of things.. I would more fall in line with Socialism.. though I believe in a strong free market outside of infrastructure:Education , communications,Transportation networks , policing and other emergency services including military, health care , social care : everything else should be on a rather open free market (though with tight controls to ensure it remains free , a GPL market as such )
As such I am stuck in a political limbo .
But on the main point of the article , Rockstar(most likely Rockstar north) are definitely using the European "Liberal".. which of course will lead to some confusion in the residents of the US
Not all of them are that far off. If I was in the USA i would choose between the Greens or one of these guys (Of course the Greens have same crazy policies that I disagree with as well)
A letter costs around.50 to write (that may be an exaggeration depending on where you live) and when 20,000+ people write you a letter about the same subject it can speak as loudly as any cash bribe. Remember the only way they are able to keep receiving their precious cash bribes is if they stay in power.
Lobbying does not require money only consensus.
I may be a tad antiquated in my views , but i still believe they can be very affective. I believe In America they have a nice saying "by the people , for the people " , would be lovely if we could realise that dream.
The greatest victory of many lobby groups and political parties has been to persuade the average voter that their vote does not really matter. It does and no vote is wasted .
If we want our views heard then we need to need to shout them out and make sure that they know we are not alone . These lobby groups have realised this , unfortunately many have also realised (as i said above) that making making people believe it doesn't is a great way to get your ideas through . If you feel an injustice in government then you need to make your voice heard. beat the self fulfilling prophecy .
One well voiced eloquently spoken opinion can change the course of world events for years to come , let's just make sure that the voice is of the Masses and is well informed.
Coming to think of it , When i was a little kid back in Scotland . My Gran had a couple of budgies.. one used to sit on my shoulder and squawk.. which is a very good metaphor for a dell Sales rep . Which is precisely why I moved things over to Sun (that and previous experience , which was mostly with Spark servers )
On the main issue of the article:Dell dropping Titanium is not shocking really , I think Intel have probably decided to relegate it and Dell are just following the beckon call
I had roughly the same problem with my current job.. apparently my predecessor was a budgerigar as the only things that had come out of his lips were "cheap cheap" . Needless to say a lot of stress ensued with Dell , resulting in a nice deal with Sun .

Randomly slamming Dell is unethical . Though as a fair few people here can attest to , there are many many valid reasons to slam them .
