    How in the hell he thought it , Either A: acceptable , or B: a good idea , is simply beyond me .
    Here is a man of immense power and persuasion taking what ammounts to a large bribe from microsoft and i have no doubts he was having a good drink enjoying ways to amicably let microsoft off on the fine , the opening up thing , oh and the Patent issue.

    Tonight i am going to write a letter to my MEP and urge that they raise a question as to whether he should be thrown out of this position imediatly , and at the very lest that he get some awnsers as to why he thought this behaviour beffiting of a politican.

    I do not want large lobby groups and private industry to have a strangle hold over the european commision , and if people like this are in office then i am begining to lose hope .

    This will not stop me kicking up a fuss , and if you agree with me i urge you to do the same .A letter is sometimes all it takes (oh and while you at it , make sure to bug you MEP again about the patents issue)

    Actualy , i implied that the AMD64 bit extensions were currently only showing noticble advantages in such operations as things are still not fully optimised for AMD64 in the normal users sphere(faster for some things but not by enough to be needed) , but i did go on to note that AMD64 chips were excelent for other reasons such as the architecture and the onboard memory controler which gives them an edge (compelation times are solid and i wouldnt do without them in x86) ;).
    Not offtopic no as grandparent said though , just a simple missunderstanding

    Vice city was excelent , but for me it was mnore of the same(not that i was complaining) so it didn't quite have that edge that throws a game from great to legendry ala its predicesor GTA 3(which is till play today on my debian box ,I intend on getting a PSP because rumour has it a version is commint out for psp).

    A game that I really got addicted to for no known reason , Was San fransisco rush on the Nintendo 64 , it had poor controls , poor collison detection and naff graphics , but there was just something about it . Perhaps it was the stunts and little quirks , not to mention the exploration element , but i mastard that game .
    I mean i could race the tracks blindfold (Actualy i think i know what it was , i was broke at the time and could only afford one game).
    Sometimes a game hits cult status for odd reasons .

    I could talk for hours about games that have defined the conecpt of "gaming" to me for hours , And i hold those games in as high regaurd as i hold the great novels i have i read and the work of art i have (prints of).
    Gaming done properly is art .

    I find it hilarious for other reasons , Having worked as a sys-admin on solaris and linux I know that each system has their strengths.
    Such a blanket statment is totaly useless and the review was entierly to vauge .
    I am rather dispondant that things like this pass for journalism nowadays .
    It is grand that Linux is getting such recognition , but i would rather have it from a fair review as opposed to this

    For the average user , if i were to be totaly honest. Right now there is hardly any real use for either. Duel cores would probably help the system apear faster if the average user is switching around alot of programs ubt for the price you would pay then it is not worth your time.

    64-bit well um if the average user um well runs a massive database setup but it will be more usefull soon in the x86 world (athlon 64 procesors though are excelent because of the onboard memory controler and architecture).

    For the power user , well i don't think we need to explain this to the power users, In a server enviroment duel core and 64-bit computing is wonderfull for many many reasons also in workstations for many many enginering jobs.

    What this test really was missing was a direct comparison to SMP systems which really for me makes the results entierly boring and expected .
    If he had shoved in a duel opteron set-up and a duel xeon set-up then it may have been a little more intresting , though as it stands its like stating the obvious.

    It would be moraly wrong if he himself had done it after promising not to , but he didn't and there is no law i know of that restricts reverse enginering(not that companys don't try with some though).

    for example Wine would be a moral linux no-no , samba also , many many other things including as parent said, the kernel.

    What this ammounts to is Linus saying "linux is immoral" ... I respect the fact that we all make mistakes , but forgivness comes after an apoligy.

    The KDE app is rather easy to use if you know the name of the printer or a simmilar model(sometimes works) , the port its on (usb etc not specific device name) and know how to click buttons . the web interface is also not that tricky and i personaly have no problem doing all this from shell(but the general public like shiny buttons with point here on them )

    Thank god atleast some political figures can't be bought off
    (or atleast got bought off by someone i agree with for a change (Joke) ) .
    as the Rapporteur his word will indeed hold a great deal of sway , lets just hope the money of the Software Patent lobby does'nt hold a greater ammount of sway .

    This does not by any means confirm we have won this yet , I would ask people to write to their MEP (member of the European parliment) and urge that they Read this recomendation and also show your support
    (if your anti all patents , then still support this as well , one brick at a time).

    Democracy requires that we all do our part and make our voices heard .

    Ok fair enough ruby is not on the scale of java , but it is not in the realms of a toy language .
    Ruby has a rather large amount of librarys , it has projects like Ruby on rails and allows extremly rapid prototyping and full blown applications (GUI , web or shell) .
    It may not have the users base of the big boys ,but its well beyond toy language status. infact technocrat.net is replacing an ammount of slashcode with Ruby IIRC as an example.

    Your right its not known by as many people as it deserves to be , however it is not seen as a toy language by those who know it .

    On an intresting side note to this subject .I know using cracked Firmware is quite likely legal now anyway(thought distributing may not be) .I was thinking if distribution of cracked firmwares to allow region free would be 100% acceptable as i do belive the "Region coding is to stop piracy " argument they use is total crap .
    Region coding is to stop free trade always has been , and there is no law stoping us distributing programs to remove a non state enforced trade barrier.I would dearly love to have this one argued in court ,on those grounds. lets have the region encoding forcfully removed by law not the hard work of hackers.

    Hm well the ADC(i should of made it clear i was contesting after the point EULAS as i belive the great grandparent post was thinking the ADC was) he had done also must have involved paying apple that membership fee which complicates things somewhat.
    Howevr yes you are right , But i personaly would of givin him hell if i were apple and made him retract the statment that he didnt know what he was doing , god the guy is in his 20s .. but thats a side point as he probably panicked after realising he got caught so i guess we can forgive him for the virtual trouser acident.

    1: abortions are legal and its the persons choise if they decide to have one and frankly it is not our place to force our morality on others (ethics dont define what you decide you want done to yourself , it defines how you act to others IMO)

    2: if these abortions are going to hapen ,then would it not be better to get something usefull out of them,If you belive that they were living thinking beings (not the debate as to if that is true or not) and there is nothing(ethicaly or moraly) you can do to stop it taking place then why not get some good out of it .

    The analogy you use of the FDA doing further research is specious ,they are performing tests to assure the medicine does not cause more damage than it prevents , blocking funding to stem cell research does nobody any good , the pro lifers still get irate about abortions ,The religious folks who like to get irate with science and find another area of research to attack , the people suffering from parkensons lose some more hope ,The pro stem research lobbyist get a bit irate . all in all the situation is throughly iratating.

    Im not an american and my views on Bushs other presidential acts otherwise aside , This was a totaly stupid decision that seems to me a bit like book burning .
    The research will continue , Your tax dollars are put to better use(?) are they , do you know what the funds got diverted to , i can hasten a guess that it is not back to you or another scientific field, Stem cell advances that will(possibly nothing is certain , but its fairly likely) save millions of lives will instead hapen much later and instead of being partial protected will be in the hands of a private company and it will end up costing you more in the end .

    The grandparent may have phrased it in a way that offended you slightly ,but he is very much right , its a no win situation unless you count votes for political fiqures a win , as thats the only thing to come out of this

    Wrong actualy , the NDA is not comparable to a EULA .
    The NDA is a valid contract as it is not forced upon you after purchase , he went into this contract fully aware(or with the resonible chance of being) and it is a very valid contract.
    Aplle are very definantly legaly within their rights , Morally and ethicaly though sueing a student for contract infringment is really bad PR i agree with you there

    Well i don't have any of knowing if this story is correct , to me its just unfounded gossip at best and at worst propaganda.
    We would need some hard evidence to back up these claims if we are to take them seriously.

    basicaly right now by all the evidence you have , there is as much proof to think that sony did it to win back players to everquest lost in the japanese market or some or competitor.

    This right now is just an unsubstantiated rumor and a conspiracy theory .

    At times of desperation this is not unussual in any country, they tend to find someone to demonize.
    for a short time it ussualy works aswell but it has always been a bad idea for the rulling party to support and promote it for their own gains and facists tend to ldo it to get in to power

    Hittler userd the jewish people
    Saddam used the kurdish people
    people who are Communist tend(ed) to be demonised in the USA ,atleast during the cold war
    After the tragedy upon the Twin towers(and a few other incidents) , the arabic people tended to be seen as a fiqure to fear in many countrys .(many cases of random violance against anyone in a turban etc)

    This is a human trait as i see it not China's trait

    I would say that demonstrations against the japanese are quite inkeeping with the spirit of the rulling party so they whilst not openly suporting it (PR) , will turn a totaly blind eye if it does not affect the infrastructure of china

    Ok i have seen this flash file a few times and enyjoy it but this story makes no sense , are you trying to say the PSP is destroying the games industry( i never got that from the cartoon , well anymore than any of the old consoles) or just advertising the cool little bit of animation .

    this flash animation is origionaly from another site iirc . i cant remember who made it though origionaly .Nice to ahve the mirror but we should give credit to the origional author(if this is the origional then i appoligise i just havnt come acros that yet)
