Wow. You really aren't paying attention. HD on a TV and HD on a disc are two totally different things. High Definition and High Density, respectively. Having HD Discs doesn't mean you won't be able to play them on a HD TV only, it means that there'll be more data on the disc (30GB worth).
I make a mild point here. Sony and Microsoft's gaming divisions aren't making a profit. They could keep producing consoles until the end of time because they're supported by other things (electronics and computer software, respectively). Nintendo is...Nintendo. If it fails, no parent corporation is going to come swooping in to save them.
Here comes the defense: Well, it was wide open, so it's not really his fault...
Forget the MS analogy. Someone leaving their door unlocked doesn't mean people can stroll in whenever they want. Doesn't mean it's smart to do, but it doesn't mean it's right for people to do, either.
Remember, any publicity is good publicity. And this company's going for double: They get publicity when he goes on TV, and they get more when they fire him for it.
This isn't a bad idea, but I imagine it's going to be a windfall for any child pornographers. How are you going to put them away if the hard drive's a bubbling mass of goop (or just...not readable. But they should use bubbling-goop chemicals just to make it more interesting).
Of course, I can just see it going in the PGP direction: "He felt the need to buy a $9K hard drive to protect his stuff! He MUST have had something to hide! Guilty!"
Yes, actually: Those are only always hidden until you go and find the registry keys that tell them to always be hidden. Do a registry search for "NeverShowExt" and you won't have to worry about having.pif files.
Not that I expect the less enlightened to do something like that, but I happen to like seeing all my file extensions. Of course, I use Linux most of the time.
So the original patent was 1996, the first talk about it was 2003, and it was rejected a month ago? This is almost as bad as that glass in space article.
Tonight in the news: Computer programmers have stopped producing software for the Apple ][e. Film at 11.
Alright, so by your arguement, if Windows starting shipping in Spanish, we shouldn't complain about it not being in English and just learn Spanish instead.
Absolutely brilliant. Everyone should just stop complaining about what they don't like about something, because obviously the developers of Monad know what we want in a shell better than us mere mortals do.
They're stupid. As a matter of fact, GUIs are stupid too. So are command lines. If you're a REAL geek, you'll do your computer work with a punch card. If it can't be done with that, well, it must not be worth doing.
Heh. Unless they decide to put their computers to task cracking your encryption. It might take awhile, but if you're the only one in a company of thousands with enough know-how to use PGP, they might think your stuff is worth reading.
...Right. All different kinds. Like Windows XP Pro, Windows XP Home, MS-DOS....so when you get a fatal error or BSOD in one, you can just switch to another one!
I would consider it lost, insofar as anything gets lost. If you consider it that way, then nobody loses their wallet either-someone else still has access to it. That someone being whoever finds it laying on the sidewalk somewhere. And you can't really count this as the same thing as "stealing music", at least, in the sense I assume you're talking about it. If someone took the tapes, copied the information, and put it back, then sure. But in this case, the physical tapes are missing. Even if they are backups.
If you can't benefit from a TIE Fighter case/desk, what the heck are you doing on Slashdot, anyways?
That aside, I definately would call this an "innovative cool product"--can you imagine all the people who would buy that for $500+ if he made more of them?
We will not pass the Acid2 browser test.
Dude, has anybody?

Way to pay attention.
All sarcasm aside, it's nice to see that nobody's renamed them Freedom Pastries yet...
Oh, wait. All sarcasm aside. Sorry.

Red Hat Enterprise Edition, SuSE, and Cedega. And that's just off the top of my head.
Let me see, was "CSS Support" anywhere on there, or did they "forget" it again?
I don't know what kind of upbringing you've had, if your mom and pop are counterfeiting money...
No IE7 for 2k means no IE7 for 2K. This is saying no IE7 for ANYBODY. Pay attention.
They hope to mass market them to the general public. Naturally, at $100 for a 4x4 inch sqaure, some people would rather bleed to death.
"Come on, I can save you!"
"No, it's too expensive! Let me die!"
Here comes the defense: Well, it was wide open, so it's not really his fault...

"But I don't want a bypass!"
"Whyever not? It'll be a very nice bypass..."
I never thought it would actually happen.

Naturally. Of course, no Windows user worth their salt ever leaves the option to "Hide known file types" checked.
Do you really think anybody who's going to get tats or piercings is going to go get a job as a lawyer? The point of this topic is IT, not lawyers.

Because no one ever plays Counterstrike or Guildwars, ever.
Seriously, though, there's still a lot of people who play Starcraft and Diablo II online. PC games aren't going to just crawl off and die.
Then I could take people's old computers AND get paid for it! After all, a 486 is a terrible thing to waste.
