That's what the lawyers are for. I'm a 2L, and when we have mock trial competitions, one of the main things we are told to do is explain concepts to the (fake) jury. The judge can try to explain during jury instructions, but it's the job of the attorney during his opening and closing arguments to break down obscure concepts in terms that Joe Sixpack can understand.

Alternatively, we can do away with the jury system altogether and just have bench trials, but there are probably a good portion of judges who are about as dumb (relatively) as the average juror.

  9. Re:Yeah, he did it right, beginning to end. on "Calvin and Hobbes" Creator Bill Watterson Looks Back With No Regrets · · Score: 1
I would disagree with regard to Peanuts. While Garfield reuses the same old jokes every week (not that I don't find Garfield entertaining), Peanuts was a strip that we could all relate to. Calvin & Hobbes is still edgy after all these years, but Peanuts is timeless. Granted, Charles Schulz didn't tackle contemporary issues in the later years that he did in Peanuts' heyday (New Math, school prayer, introducing an African-American character when nobody else had one, etc.), but Peanuts always made people smile. And it also made us think.

The final strip of Peanuts was one of the more touching things I've read in the comics section, moreso than the last strip of the first For Better or Worse run. When Peanuts ended, it was like the death of a older relative -- you knew it was coming, but you didn't want it to end so fast. The last Calvin & Hobbes strip did not end on that sort of cathartic note; rather, it ended on an uncertain note, as if Mr. Watterson was leaving it up to the reader's imagination what happens next.

But Fox News told me that Obama is a dangerous liberal Marxist fascist radical!

This whole "socialist" meme is getting tiresome. Obama is a center-right politician, like 99% of the people in Washington today. The center moved so far to the right under Reagan and Dubya that even someone in the (actual) center is a socialist by comparison to someone like Limbaugh.
