Even if you don't have itunes in sync mode, i would definitely prefer it over dragging out of the file system. It just so happens that all those features itunes is packed are usefull. (i know, crazy) Imagine i want to create a playlist for my ipod and sample the songs as i make it....or i want to see my library arranged by song name.....or i want to convert a song from aiff to mp3. And finally, I don't see what's more difficult about dragging songs from within the itunes window to the ipod icon on the left of the same window....especially since they're organized in any way you want.
I think you're right, for the most part. But....I do think you may be overly optimistic regarding people's tolerance for things getting better as opposed to worse. Television has more comercials than ever, our government is turning fascist, our personal and national debt rises, planetary change is imminent while energy consumption soars.......
I think people can be manipulated to think everything is "OK" when in fact, conditions are far from our potential at this point in history. Capitolism is not a system that promotes freedom and equality, I don't care what "free market" whining some people emit. Greed does not go well with power and power is what money can buy today.
Yeah man....check up on your history before you post blindly. You might also find that as part of the deregulation deal with the govt the telecoms promised to have high speed line to every american home by 2006.....and we're not talking dsl over copper, or cable with slow upload.
I think his point is valid. Anyone who has a cellphone knows how these companies cripple their phones and basically limit their customers to very few expensive, poorly designed, services. It seems pretty obvious to me that verizon would love to be able to control their landline network with the same stranglehold. How else could they get people to actually use their shitty services?
Well mister "nothing to hide", you totally miss the point. Take a look at history, like those nazi fellows....sure, blue-eyed aryan Germans had "nothing to hide" but did the jewish citizens? Just because the nazi government was curtailing their rights dosn't mean they were guilty of anything. Get it? The constitution guaranteed our right to privacy not so we could all be criminals, but so the GOVERNMENT WOULD NOT BE CRIMINAL. You need probable cause and so forth, not just something like, "well since he's a muslim, he may be bad...tap the sh** out of all his sh**".
Oh yeah, and I bet you do have something to hide....
Could be....i've always assumed that the govt saw the mind opening nature of marijuana as a threat. Although maybe a demotivator for some, many artists and people in all walks of life find marijuana usefull for inspiration/perspective change.
One would hope that this would lead to methods that would be available to employers who currently only test for marijuana. Supposedly cannibus will show up even it it was consumed a month prior, cocaine on the other hand does not show up.
Of course if you look at the history of the CIA in the 80's, one might hypothesize that the government has no interest in stopping cocaine consumption.
At least we all know marijuana is very bad.....there's this new movie out, Reefer Madness......really informative.
Stupid comparison, water and coffee. The human body is mostly water and will die without it. So of course you can't be addicted to water. Coffee on the other hand is a stimulant and has psychological effects, often mood lifting. People don't have coffee every morning and at 11 because their bodies require it for survival, they do it because they WANT it, it gives them pleasure. I think something that one wants but does not NEED, and consumes habitually, defines addiction. That dosn't mean it's BAD just because it's an addiction. Everybody has some....TV, chocolate, weed, tea, etc.
The parent and others i've met seem to cringe at the word addiction and point fingers at "junkies" and such not realizing that to be human is to have some addictions. Acknowledging it and noticing how they affect me is what i do.
"I'm not going to bother to sell my existing iPod unless I can buy a new player that supports lossless audio"
My 4th gen ipod supports both apple lossless and aiff files....i use mostly apple lossless for my ripped CDs, mp3 for my files procured from questionable sources, and aiff for my own work (which i need to hear at full CD quality....which is peanuts compared to 24/96) In my opinion, apple lossless is the best compromise for mobile music on an ipod. My vinyl collection is where the real listening takes place!
OK, here's the kicker: Every individual human being has their OWN UNDERSTANDING of the word evil. I admire google for putting the statement in their manifesto, I do believe it will make all employees that work there think a little more about their decisions....but it really means nothing. Anybody ever consider that some folks (maybe Chinese) think America is "evil"? Person A may believe one thing is "evil" and another thing is "good" and person B may hold the opposite view....both are right!
I personally try to rid my speech and thoughts of absolute words like good, bad, evil.....or at least say "I THINK"...so and so is good/evil...
I hate to break it to you but a company can't just "stay out of China" these days. This http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/ipc/idbsprd is way to many human beings for ANY company to ignore. Censored google is better than no google at all....it's not like the Chinese search engines are not censored. To pull out of China would be very stupid for google and google is not stupid. They are just a company, not lawmakers. They are an admirable company that seems to integrate ethics into their business model but they don't have enough power YET to do whatever they want....
The most common blown insulation here in the states is cellulose. It's usually made from old newspaper or once used paper and is considered by many to be superior to the most common but stupidest insulation, fiberglass. The main reasons that cellulose performs so much better is that it completely fills the cavities. Fiberglass comes in "batts" and you can never fill a cavity as tightly while maintaining the crutial loft as with blown in. Furthermore, rodents LOVE fiberglass. They will make nests in in anywhere they can and in the process, remove large amounts of insulation. Cellulose dosn't seem to have this problem. Cellulose is also a very good "transition" material since it uses a recycled material. The best way to use it that i've seen involves building an outer wall and an inner wall with minimal connection between the two. You then fill this cavity (which could be 2' thick) with cellulose. Get some triple clazed windows and you're on your way to have a very efficient and not much more costly to construct home. Time to wake up and realize that WE HAVE TO LOWER OUR ENERGY CONSUMPTION.
Exactly. Parent is correct, in my opinion. If you're like me, you've been cautious about submitting queries that might identify you as a true patriot (one who loves their country and is always interested in making it better, NOT just following the leader) ever since it became clear that the US government is predominently evil, circa 2000 (they've been evil for much longer). I've assumed full interweb surveilance for a while now. Does that mean I live in fear? NO! It just means I don't trust the people in power right now.
Every time I hear about google getting richer and more powerfull, it makes me happy. What other corporation or government has ever put "don't be evil" into their manifesto/constitution? It may seem simple but they are the only ones. Even though "evil" is a word that everybody has their own interpretation of, I think the statement has weight. I hope that google can stand up to the govt and continue to not be evil!
During the 2004 baseball postseason, fox had the rights to everything. (of course) Sometimes two games would be scheduled back to back and the first game would run long. They would then direct the people looking for the second game to FSN which I assume stands for fox sports network. Viola, both games on. I guess this cuts out all the people who just get local TV, though. It's just interesting that they would do that for sports but wouldn't THINK of doing it for "some cartoon". Or imagine if they had football on the local fox and put the simpsons on the coveted fox news? Bill O'Rielly would go apeshit.....(if he's capable of any higher levels of apeshitness)
From what you're saying, I gather that the issue of surface scratches out-ranks product atributes such as reliability, amiable UI, and the absence of general problems that seem to plague some personal computing systems.......
Yeah, I guess I could be real upset that my ipod screen is scratched (believe me, it is)....but wait, it dosn't matter! It still works great and I can see the text fine and the battery is f*****g sugary sweet after 1 year+
I guess what i'm sayin is those surface scratches have nothing to do with what computers are about. Apple has been a very positive force in the tech world, in my opinion.
I wonder what the decible level of the trains in NY are? I have a feeling that damaging levels are already present, without music in your ears.
Once on a plane ride I was lucky enough to get a seat right next to the jet engine. I remember noticing that the AVLS volume limiter on my sports walkman made it too quiet to here anything.
I agree, the only way to go is with those sound blocking buds.....if only a company would make some a little cheaper.
After watching those videos at the UC Berkeley site I wonder how practical this thing is.
-Very loud gas engine (dangerous too with the jet fuel)
-Seems very awkward and unatural for the person wearing it.
Why not just work on robots that will carry heavy things? The fact that the apparatus weighs so much in comparison to what it allows you to carry also seems ridicules.
I've just discovered the ultimate fidelity: direct cut albums. These were popular in Japan in the 70s and instead of tape, they recorded directly to the vinyl cutting lathe. The records they sold are pressed from that master. The musicians had to play each side all the way through, without mistakes and the engineers had to mix it perfectly or else start all over again. What's cool is that these recordings are completely uncompressed, just the mics, the mixer, and the cutting lathe. They do warn you of this on some of the albums; ie you need high end equipment. I think the parent is right, the peak of fidelity was at the end of the analogue era. I can't explain how natural and "good" these LPs sound. Gives 24/96 a run for it's bits.
Exactly. The only real vote we have is with our money. Don't like high gas prices and wars? Don't give oil companies money! People seem to think that change comes about by simply bitching about things they don't like. INDUSTRIES WON'T CHANGE AS LONG AS WE STILL GIVE THEM MILLIONS OF OUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS. In fact, they will add insult to injury and try to get MORE money out of you.
I think with the succes of itunes and ITMS apple isn't too worried about itunes getting a bad name. It does seem probable that they sabotaged the ROKR, though. I think apple is in a perfect position to make the ideal all-in-one device. BUT, they don't have a wireless network. The big cell phone companies are pretty much known for crippling or overcharging for all-in-one type services. Most people hate their cell provider for one reason or another. If I was apple, I wouldn't want to be associated with businesses like verizon and cingular. With the bad taste left from the ROKR and the rest of the crap the cell companies offer, this buys apple time to figure out some sort of wireless option......maybe?
Yes, as the other poster said, www.weatherwars.info This guy is a meteorologist and believes all weather is engineered. I'd say it's worth excepting this as a possibility......I'm no scientist so I wish some real scientists (when I say "real" I mean scientists who are willing to discover things that may contradict "accepted knowledge".) would review some of this guys theories about EM.
Finally, someone in this thread who knows what they're talking about. The music industry contains some of the most asinine contracts, hands down. (second only to cell phone contracts perhaps)

FYI, in the verizon phone tree, just say "representative" at ANY time to get a human. (a human from the verizon support tipped me)
Yes, they are a criminal syndicate.
