    Mr. Palast's credibility is top-notch as far as I'm concerned. He always dares to cover stories that everyone else is too scared to do. Look at the wonderful work he's done cornering Goldfinger and vulture funds. Poor kids in Africa are likely to have an education, healthcare and food thanks to his courageous work. Kudos to him!

    At this point, these things aren't really "news" any more, and certainly no longer shocking.
    What's shocking is that nobody seems to be doing anything about it. It's like that outrageous CBS/NYT poll which shows 28 percent believe members of the Bush Administration are lying about "what they knew prior to September 11th, 2001, about possible terrorist attacks against the United States."

    It's like saying, "yeah, we know, they're all crooks. But whatcha gonna do about it?".

    I am not sure how anyone could even suggest something like - 'I CAN, but you sire, CANNOT'. Justice and equality.
    Good point! I don't trust Ahmadinejad with nukes, but I don't trust Bush with them either. History shows us that the US attacks countries on false pretenses and that the only thing that matters is their interests.

    Plus, a nuclear powered Iran would certainly stabilize the region. They are surrounded by Pakistan, Russia, Israel, and Americans in Iraq, all of whom have nukes.

    Better yet. How about a song about the terrorist the US harbors? Luis Clemente Faustino Posada Carriles bombed the Cubana flight 455 in 1976 which killed 73 people. Both Venezuela and Cuba have been demanding his extradition in vain.

    I happen to be doing my Master's thesis on exactly this subject. The problem currently with the technology is that there's not enough data for scientists to work on and extract the best metrics. Plus, it's dominated by corporations. My idea was to gather enough data and make them available for future researchers as well as set up an open-source program implementing the best algorithms I'll come up with. Analysis of the data will be done with R and the actual program written in Python. It'd be nice if you could take a minute to send in a sample of your writing on this page: http://www.malti.org/

    War happens, war must be fought effectively, and frankly given that I'm not going to sweat a soldier using Linux in a weapon system any more than a farmer should sweat a soldier having a sandwich for lunch.
    Taking the case of Iraq; war didn't exactly "happen". Public support was drawn through lies and deceit. The violence is getting worse by the day, and still the troops stay there.

    The winners are the bastards who manufacture weapons. Everybody else loses. For all these reasons, I think a clause in the GPL oughta be added.

    Sounds mostly like a "trial balloon", an idea floated up without any real expectation it will be implemented. Perhaps for scare value.
    Good point. News,com.au is part of Murdoch's empire and as such, news from there should be taken with a grain of salt.
