Figure those CD's Apple names? They are real clever. They know the listener profile of Celine Dion etc, they know they are... (you name it) and they won't boycott etc.
I guess you didn't use Apple for a while. Apple OS, as Linux/BSD and other real OS'es locks CD'es when mounted. Yes, ATAPI tray lock command.
There are many reasons for this as their common environment (mission critical) and they are making a good thing. Like, nobody'es slipped finger will cause a major crash because CD is removed (Happened once to me, on Win2k install).
Also, Apple Mac users are used to "no eject button" stuff (floppies), which in fact, really helps prevent data losses.
So, Apple OSX, OS 9 etc uses tray locking documented ATAPI feature, software (kernel, firmware) makes the job of eject button, those trojan audio CD's makes it crash. I wonder what happens if you put a DVD into a CDrom drive on Linux and try to mount it... Yes, via console, runlevel tricks, you can fix it but regular user can't.
So, no need for Apple bashing here, we should bash people not boycotting those CD'S (oh, no, I don't say get mp3es of them, just be patient) and made this stuff fade away in weeks. Imagine Celine Dion's face when she hears her CD has sold just 100 pieces for a week... And her producers face... Understand?
I live in Istanbul, Turkey... 12M+ city. If what I see is right (on that website), that iButton takes care of near whole transportation system here. In busses, metro, sea. There wasn't a single incident since years.
Its named "Akbil" (Smart Ticket), in demos they showed huge cars&stuff driven over them, nothing happened.
Oh btw, to remind how widely they are used they are, its like 80% iButton vs 20% regular tickets.
I type "my yahoo" instead of "my.yahoo.com" and Netscape 6 (I bet 4.x too) sends me to my.yahoo.com, I always thought it was a Realnames&Netscape thing such as "what's related" is a Alexa&Netscape thing.
Oh you are so clever. don't you get the reason why they disabled it? Because, when you post "look ma, I am so 133t, I found out RC3 ships", bugzilla, their WORKBENCH gets crashed because its planned/deployed for development and bug reporting purposes. Not for 700+ geeks clicking to see 2 lines of text, w/o helping anything.
Slashdot made that fault once, they couldn't CODE/FIX BUGS for hours because bugzilla wasn't able to serve them. Now they took their lesson. Now WWW protocol gurus like you, knowing what referer is, teach them how to "elitely" (133t tone) bypass that "evil" problem.
Oh, btw, Opera has "disable referer" option, evil Anti Mozilla feature?:-)
Realplayer carries spyware (oh, it must be quality of network and anonymous usage for RADIoS/TV servers) and can't be disabled?
Oh I am afraid. Now I have to use wmedia which comes with those options clicked by default.
Did I find a secret build or something? It came with those explanationary buttons and they were clicked OFF by default. Also can be disabled later.
I hope because of those rumors, Wmedia kills Real like it did to Netscape 4.x once and all those linux geeks have to use some sort of Wine to play wmedia files... Than in 6 months, microsoft makes a interesting trick to make it non-playable on any Wine platform. So you'll have to dual boot into Windows to watch a stinking film trailer. I REALLY hope it.
FYI HP line of Inkjets has "head cleaning" function too, it doesn't just waste ink, wastes paper too! Like 2 pages... HP is a big bad evil company sees people as morons:-)
Epson uses Piezo method of printing on Inkjet printer line. Even on the cheapest ones. You just buy ink carticge and its like half price of same HP model.
Based on its manual I read, print head has "infinite" life, e.g. doesn't wear out. Sorry I couldn't find an Epson page describing it.
I wanted to use original stuff and hated my HP 690c especially because of their stupid tactics so I switched to Epson.
As I got total 200+ messages and tracked all of their sources via spamcop.net (Well, I must have freaked up a bit) I am SURE those 2 ISP's I mention are AWARE of the situation and they have english pages, english customers too...
I can't be more sure, those ISP's aren'T being abused, they are abusing the Internet themselves.
If I get sort of this thing again, I will spend time and contact them via Korean embassy here,in Istanbul. Oh, no I won't surrender and filter, I want them to get some trouble.
Heh, maybe we should leave them to communists, many of our soldiers were dead at North/South war too...
If you want those spammers account traced/disabled, its a real hard work to do since spammers use real elite tactics to hide/trick you.
You should get a free http://www.spamcop.net account and let that genious site traces the message source despite all those lame tactics like hex URL posting, the well known other tactics and find right people to send abuse reports.
I nailed like 50+ spammers using that.
Best way to get rid of spam isn't filtering, its getting rid of the asshole sending it.
Two ISP's... Hananet.net and kornet.net , those bastards from Korea made me cancel my 4 year old Yahoo mail account.
Did everything... Reported via spamcop.net (oh thats why I know its not US schools), mailed them real politely to do something about it, in plain english... Nothing happened.
Is there a "higher level" place we can report those constant abuses of those 2 ISP's?
I agree to you, you said the things I couldn't with my broken english...
Don't watch the ads because you are so 133t with your PVR but... You will give them no chance except moving to a subscription model.
Tivo is currently partnering with AOL in the other news. I guess some stinky online services but... If Time Warner boss gone that mad to call all PVR owners thiefs, you will see some real surprising stuff in a year I'd say...
People, believe me, TV is a REAL , REAL expensive business... Its not just those superstar sitcoms getting the money, its... everything you can imagine in TV building.
Oh, I fastforward the ads on my SVHS video, 6x speed:-) So, it makes me 1/6 thief?:-)
I have a clue already thanks. So, you run a super secret version of Quicktime that runs AT LEAST ON BSD since damn OSX is based on that?
Or, or linux version?
Popping up... Big deal, can be turned off... I did it at first... Wanna know why it pops up? Because windows media has a ultra-cool feature of STEALING file extensions from others. Geez, there are even applications now, to fix such freaky extension war.
What I want is a damn application can RUN NATIVELY on OS based systems, BSD; Linux... Oh and Solaris, Irix... I don't want to IMITATE a stinky operating system to listen to a net radio.
Oh, I like Sony since they have never tried to be the one and only CD player manufacturer, one and only floppy disk manufacturer. They played the same game with their rivals. Sometimes you even wonder why they didn't?
Oh, no Beta/VHS stuff please,we had enough...
Why don't people flamewar about GameCube or EVEN Atari Jaguar (oh,that one is 64 bit).
Since its MS, they are kind of a God and they must be suscessful, they didn't "show their evil secret weapon yet"?
Its a company people... How large it is,doesn't matter... In '87, if someone came and said me Amiga corp will die (in computer making business) and those stinky CGA,beep making accounting machines will takeover World, I'd laugh to them... See what happened? Only left is, I still miss my Amiga 1200...
Amiga did series of stupid things, they died. MS started to make them now (Would you buy a MS CD deck or a Sony CD deck?)... They mess with Sony/Nindendo on job they did for decades, consumer electronics, they take their lesson.
Nobody should trick people with a specially coded DirectX and a stinking P3,nvidia, its my take.
Hm, after all the stuff I read, it will be a "connected" appliance same time. Same as MS'es plans for future wmedia,Xbox. To say least basicly, they want to replace our Videos/Tivos/PaidTV Decoders oh and music systems... Electronics business. Well, I can guess who would win such a "war", do you too?:-)
Only thing would be problematic is privacy...
Interesting future is coming, especially ipv6 plans and their enourmious offers... Like, click on a cloth on your favorite TV show and buy it instantly...
MS'es "image" creates the problem. I 'd select a Sony, opensource device over MS if those freaky things happen one day...:-)
So, (seriously) you'd prefer them partnering with Microsoft Windows Media technologies?
I am not ranting about Real ranters anymore. I wish them a happy life with some emulator crap/subscription based windows plugin emulator when Real networks dies as they wish.
Oh,Sony, Real, AOL are evil companies I agree. If they (especially Real) wasn't evil, they would be already dead now. Do you think MS promotes/forces their userbase to wmedia for favor? Its the same damn lame trick.
I wonder the next post claiming winamp is evil AOL spyware since they send a stinking "I am running now, guy launched me" data to their winamp server.
Oh, btw, whats that "send guid to server" is defaultly clicked on wmedia?
Media has been always evil. Oh, btw, you know where those usage statistics etc goes to? No! Not to Real Networks, to Radio station you listen. Its real evil/bad/spy/devil thing to send "hey! I can't get your data" to server instead of uninformed, ignored, profanity mails from users like "your station doesn't work, it stinks" right?
Well, I shouldn't waste my keystrokes... You actually speak same way as security expert, prophet, nanoprobe master Steve Gibson? He said its a real real evil, devilish thing to send version number and customer ID of PAID REAL USERS to Realnetworks when they clicked on "support". No comment than:-)
Its stupid... Linuxjournal has ways to handle this enormious hits. At least they can do it.
Sorry but I am sick of reading a copy of a page as first page marked +5 informative.
Funny is nobody sends a copy of site as anonymous coward (anonymous), if it really worths it (site crashes etc), people can mod up that comment and make it visible.
Ah,same time they say they have enough karma etc. Well if you have enough karma, you can do it way that I stated above.
Figure those CD's Apple names? They are real clever. They know the listener profile of Celine Dion etc, they know they are... (you name it) and they won't boycott etc.
Dear AC,
I wonder one thing... Would we see 90% of those "Apple is stupid, they should think" style posts if same thing somehow happened on Linux/BSD?
Be objective... Please!
I guess you didn't use Apple for a while. Apple OS, as Linux/BSD and other real OS'es locks CD'es when mounted. Yes, ATAPI tray lock command.

So it will be affected? Not?
Oh you are so clever. don't you get the reason why they disabled it? Wow... Amazing... Comparing it to MS-Video , we can understand why MS wants to conspire Real on every kind of aspects
Startcenter "protects" file extentions registered to Realplayer. Against "someone" changing it. Guess who someone is?
Seems many of the annoying stuff about Realplayer exists because they have to do it.

Maybe static electricity was bad word...
Well worser, bad wiring can cause body "charge" like a battery. I have electrician friends, I know from their problems.
They can be connected to a laptop/pda as Casio says. So you can use the data from that watch.
Its not intended to be funny... Check your houses wiring, especially your PC's earthing...
Sounds like you are charged with static electricity to me.
hmm I don't reply, I just paste your post...
__
Umm... silly pointless numbers troll? You're forgetting the hacked nForce chipset with the GeForce 3 inside...
It's not about the CPU anymore (insert threadbare rant about Brian's PII box).

I'd rather moderate you for grammar.
