    I can clearly see the bad implecations here, but as a responsable user, this has helped me over the past few months: I look for an item on Target, walmart, froogle, whatever, then go to amazon and it is right there, no searching needed. This is not good privacy wise, but pretty conveniant for those of us who delete cookies at responsable intervals (read weekly or more).

    Maybe the default DMS error page needs to be updated with a list of links to search engines: that would solve both problems at once: If the default page had all the usual 404 junk up top, then had a little thing saying "not what you are looking for? try one of these Internet Search Engines" followed by a list.

    It all depends on the task at hand, if the task is sorting or querying a 2 terebyte database, give me the unix way, if it is to send a picture of the kids to grandma, give me the apple way.

    Bullshit, all builders use the same chips (either Intel or AMD x86), mobos, RAM, GPU, HDDs and optical drives...they just used high end ones and not the low end ones...the only thing that makes AW differant than any other "gaming" bos is the cases, which are all show; an $1800 beige box can beat a $3000 AW hands down.

    I called our cable company, Insight over a lag issue and was given the BS run-arround and said flat out NO, your problem, fix it! they said they wouldnt help unless I plaid ball with their BS so I hung up and called back. I got the same rep so in stead of just jumping in, I said "I am a private network consultant calling on Mr. (my last name)s behalf, here is the problem..." she sent a sync signall to the modem and it fixed it.

    The whole point of social news/bookmarking is having a huge community of users interested in a similar subject submit tons of data about it, then the community weeds out the junk, and the cream rises. Pay a handfull of folks to do the submitting and you have nothing more than an "interesting stories" list compiled by staff members.

    Can atheletes wear arch rivals swag? can they be seen/caught at a place where alcohal is being consumed by minors even if they dont partake? They, at least in major sports, live under the thought that any wrong move they make could be on the front page of the paper, or if they are really big stars, national media...so it may not be explicit, but they do give up some "rights" -- mostly privacy.

    and as such they have a responsibility not to embarass the program or school; if the average student posts trash talk about the arch-rival's star player on FB, it is no problem, if an athelete does it, it could blow up into an NCAA investigation, and worse, loads of bad publicity on Spotscenter.

    when you choose to be an athelete and get your schooling comped for the trouble, you take the public persona that comes with it.

    Think about it; if a PC gets exposed to viruses or malware, the average Joe will either A: buy a new version of Nortan, or just not realise it untill the PC fails to boot in under 10 minutes at which point they just buy a new one, which means by default, another license for Winodws that isnt really needed, but Redmond gets the $$$ non-the-less...

    Many folks just scrap their PCs every year and get a new one rather than paying Geeksquad to fix the old one...this is a HUGE problem; imagine if folks just scrapped their cars in stead of changing the sparkplugs.

    I jave had, as a home-schooler in the late 90s, exposure to this sort of thing and let me tell you it is utter CRAP...rype with bugs, quirks and holes. you are essentially guided through a cheasy flach animation then quizzed over it (assuming the quiz doesnt crash Internet Explorer which I was requiered to use) plus if you have a question not covered in the material, you would have call a helpdesk or know how to leave full screen mode to use yahoo.

    it was utter crap that I would never put a kid through...

    on the black market; face it, a back door or hole would be worth a TON of money to spyware vendors or governments that dont have MS wrapped around their finger...letting the hackers see and attempt to break it will ENCURE that vista comes pre-hacked because of 2 things:

    1. the money that can be made by selling the secrets to bad guys.

    2. MS hatred goes deep in the hacking community...a lot of "hackers" would love to see vista hackable out of the box to hurt MS.

    I know that one can build a gateway box to scan and remove viruses from internet traffic before it hits the lan, but can the same thing be done with spyware thus making it a little bit safer to not block myspace and other such sites that are reaching levels of popularity that make them impossible to block in some enviornments with office politics pressure and all?
