Try gnumeric it has pretty much everything you're asking for. One thing about it is that you set up your graphs (axes etc) differently than you may be used to in Calc or Excel but once you get a feel for it it's nice.
I've been looking for a new laptop and I've run across System 76's linux laptops. I'm seriously considering buying one in the next couple of months. As someone who has bought one, what do you think of the quality of the machine? If you've ever needed to call support was it a good experience?
While I agree that the bank does own a lot of people's homes in this day and age I have to disagree with the rest of your point that renting is a better deal than buying. Consider that whoever you rent from is most likely making a profit by renting to you. Your rental house is most likely also owned by the bank as the landlord probably has not paid it off yet. To make a profit the landlord must charge you more in rent than what he is paying on mortgage expenses, taxes, maintainence, and other things. Therefore, it follows that it would be cheaper to buy a given house than to rent it.
Except if you are actually put in prison in most cases they eventually release you. As lists like this become more commonplace the people on them will have an ever shrinking area in which they can live. After all who wants a 'registered sex offender' in their backyard?
And yes a prison is still a prison regardless of it's size. Just because one is more plesant that the other (much much more pleasant) doesn't change what it is.
Restricting where someone can live isn't nearly as big a deal as locking them away.
They're exactly the same thing. What do you think prison is? The state restricts where you can live to a 10x10 cell. Just because the you're not in a cell doesn't mean you've not been imprisoned.
Maybe he doesn't want to have to work when he reaches 70 or 80 years of age. Some people would like to eventually retire instead of working until the day they die.
I just woke up so let me correct some of the spelling errors I just made:
According to TFA (the Fake article pulled out of thin air) this thing checks your data for naughty bits and disallows you to store them. This works perfectly with the technology's slogan:
Thumper Data Storage: "If you can't store anything nice; don't store anything at all."
I'm here all week. Try the veal.

You're keeping these backups in a secure off site location right? A burgler probably won't bother stealing your 'backup' DVD collection if the real thing (with actual resale value) is right there, but I doubt a flood or a fire will spare your backups.
The only real way to keep it safe from disasters like this is to have the backups stored in a second location
Shouldn't the original formula be in the patent somewhere? It's not like this is a bogus software patent we're talking about here. Especially when you consider that the stated purpose of patents is to give inventors a temporary monopoly in exchange for publishing how to make the invention (in the patent filing itself).
If not, then the whole system sounds like it (the patent system) was always a scam and society is no worse off by not granting patents since no new knowledge is gained.
Wow, so far (I've been using Ubuntu for the past year) I haven't run into anything like this. I guess it just goes to show you that you can find a jerk anywhere. I'm glad that someone took the time to help you by posting the config you needed.
They'll still charge you the $60 a month... after all you're already paying it and in most places I've lived you've only got 2 choices for broadband, both of which cost an arm and a leg. What will happen is that they will charge the p2p users more than $60.
The law also states that they must not break any other laws in order to fulfill the best interests of the shareholders, therefore you have no argument as they are not being required to break one law to follow another. They choose to do this, they do not have to.
Have you tried Notepad++ ? It's Free (both speech and beer for windows) and has a lot of features that windows notepad doesn't have such as syntax highlighting.
How is this any different from having a web page anywhere else? Your content is viewable by anyone on planet earth either way so I don't see how you have any less privacy by hosting your page on google vs. some other outfit.
If you mean that you're giving up your rights to the content as google has rights to redistribute your work (by the license agreement) then you'd be closer. But even so it has been pointed out that the license agreement only gives google that right for as long as you host whatever it is on their servers. Of course this could change down the road.
I could see a good e book device to be good for folks who travel a lot. That aside, I don't think I'll be getting any e books unless there's no other choice. The reason is simple: I like real books too much. I Don't need a powered device to read with regular books, and most importantly, I can sell them when I'm done with the book. With e books it's probably another "we're selling you the license to read it" line of bullshit and to be honest with you, when I spend money on something I want to own it, not just "have rights to use it".
Kind of OT, but as a resident of NW indiana, I can definately say that it's not a place you'd want to be buying a new home. About a year or so ago, Lake County sent out a bunch of appraisers and re-appraised every house in the county. The problem with this was that the people they hired to do it really had no idea knowledge of the area. A lot of people had their tax bills shoot up 100%-300%. The kicker is that a lot of these are in Miller, just a stone's throw away from the murder capital of the world, Gary, IN (Gary got the title back this year because New Orleans was underwater for a chunk of last year). On top of that, Miller really isn't much nicer than Gary.

She probably wasn't very good at handling a hard disk either...
I wonder how you say "OMG PONIES!!!1!" in klingon
The only real way to keep it safe from disasters like this is to have the backups stored in a second location
OMG PONIES!!!!111one!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist
Well maybe if you bought her dinner first or at least a drink...

I don't see how this got modded anything but funny, I'm laughing my ass off.
Check out the ubuntu forums (www.ubuntuforums.org) the people there are generally very nice, and have always tried to answer my questions as a newb.

7zip is another package that can make/decompress zip, rar, and tar files. It's also free software (both beer and speech).
