  1. Re:Wrong on so many levels on Iris Scanning For New Jersey Grade School · · Score: 0

Well I really don't remember much of my early grade school, but from what I remember, My parents never met most of my teachers from the 5th grade on. We're not talking about a particularly large school system either. My graduating high school class (same school system as the elementary school i went to) had 59 people in it.

  2. Re:I'm all for it on The Industry On In-Game Advertising · · Score: 0

I think the fatal mistake in your reasoning is that you are assuming that "game a" is a perfect substitute for "game b". This is not really the case. If I want to buy halo 2 there is only one company making that game. I can't decide to buy a copy from activision or another competitor. While it's true I can get the game cheaper from a used outlet or maybe catch a sale on a new one, at some point the retailer is paying the manufacturer so the manufacturer is getting their cut when the game is sold as new. While a customer may decide to save money and get "game b" it's more likely that if they really wanted "game a" they would just spend the extra money to get what they want.

  3. Re:Heh... **Beatles!!! on ICANN Considers Single Letter Domains · · Score: 0

From my understanding of how pagerank works (and I could be way off on this one) is that when a page links to another page it gets so many "points" in googles search engine. The page with the links only has so many points to dish out (determined by it's own pagerank) so each additional link reduces the number of points going to any one page. If this guy is really getting on your nerves why not post a couple links to other sites, To do it most effectively perhaps post other beatles related sites which are above his in google. Also he seems to be targeting the keywords "George Harrison" instead of "beatles". Just search google and link to some pages above his and you've effectively nullified his attempt at SEO.

This might fly if it was a version of the OS you have to download yourself, but I can imagine if this crap came bundled with grandma's new dell, people would be pissed. I can see it now... joe sixpack walks into best buy and looks at the computers. He notices how all of the seem to be acting like his computer at home with ads popping up randomly at him. He then asks the sales guy what is wrong with that PC and he is then told about how that's now "part of windows". I don't think a lot of people would go for that. After all, they are paying for the PC, including the operating system.

  5. Re:I have a solution on Former Apple Exec Speaks Against DRM · · Score: 0

You could argue that financially the record companies would be better off without the DRM. How you ask? Think about it, Sony's DRM rootkit certainly cost them some money to buy from first4internet or whatever the company's name is. Was it effective? I'm sure someone has managed to get around it by now. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to find out I could fire up any P2P app and find the album for download this very second. So in the end, the record company is out the cash from having to pay to develop the DRM, said DRM doesn't actually stop anyone from pirating the album, and Sony has probably managed to piss off a few customers to boot.

  6. The apps on Why Do People Switch To Linux? · · Score: 0

I switched out of curiosity but I stayed because of the apps. Most distros have so much stuff out of the box that you either have to pay for or is shareware in the windows world. Take CD burining for example. Yes i know i could use the built in features of windows xp but I really don't like it. Nero is pretty good but you have to buy it. K3b on the other hand does everything I need, is free, and never pesters me to register or any other such nonsense. Another big thing is apt-get which is lightyears ahead of installing software in windows.

Check out aberdeen (www.aberdeeninc.com) Their selection isn't what it used to be but when I built my last computer, I picked out a mobo, case, processor, ram, and psu from them and they sent it preassembled and tested in the case. The rest of the parts I already had laying around (hard drives and such). I used to just buy parts and put it together myself, but i'm too lazy for that these days. (Not affiliated with aberdeen in any way, just someone who has been buying stuff from them for a few years)

I downloaded opera when they had the day a couple weeks back where it was free and without ads. I thought it was definately a good browser, but if they are giving it away all the time now how are they going to stay in business? The summary says they will offer premium support, but honestly how much support do people really need for a browser? Unless they make other stuff I don't see them making enough money to stay in business this way. That being said it is awesome that it's free now and more people will use it.

Yes, but if you really do owe money to whoever sent the collections agency after you in the first place they can take you to court for it. What I was trying to say was that yes this would work if the amount was small. It's hardly worth their time to sue over $11. But when we start talking thousands of dollars it becomes more likely that whoever you owed would pursue a remedy by the court system. I doubt sending the letter would get you out of a legitimate debt which was big enough to be worth going to court over.

I think my absolute favorite would have to be Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSX. It had a great storyline, the music is probably the best i've heard in any video game, and to top it all off, the job system is well balanced. Mostly I like the tactical aspects of the game, as battles can be won and lost by where on the map you start your party. Hell, this game was released a little after FFVII and I'm still loading it up and playing it at least once every few months. As far as replay value goes you can't beat that.

  17. It's just a better value for the money on Men Spend More on Video Games Than Music · · Score: 5, Insightful

For the most part, games have a lot more entertainment value for the money. If I buy a CD I'm paying $20 for about an hour's worth of music (not to mention that there may only be a few good songs on it). If I buy a game, There should be at least a few hours worth of gameplay before I beat it, and most games have a multiplayer mode which means that i'll get a lot of play out of that $50 I paid for the game before I get bored with it and need a new toy :). It's simple economics really. Why pay $20 for (at best) an hour of entertainment when you could get an insanely large number of hours of fun out of a $50 game?
