    let's be brutally honest and say our stressful, obsessive, physically inactive society has bred a number of nervous, neurotic and mentally unbalanced people with a host of ills such as restless leg syndrome, attention deficit disorder, insomnia etc.etc. for which big pharmy is making cubic meters of cash. Doesn't change the fact the primary problem is between the left ear and the right ear of the afflicted.

    won't be 30 minutes for a first timer, will be hours and maybe even more if they want to run Linux. Most people couldn't be bothered with the risk and time investment, I don't blame them. I just did the barebones thing myself, had to spend a few hours with BIOS settings so I'd get my full 4GB with 64 bit Linux and the $40 used nvidia card working so text boot-up status and full X11 working. Quite frankly I could not feel bad about spending $400 more and not having the hassle.....

    that 2012 doom business is just a popular misinterpretation of Mayan prophecy. It's just the end of a cycle to be followed by another new one. Therefor 2012 will be the end of the Windows desktop and the beginning of the Long Year of the Linux desktop. Or something like that, I'm pretty sure a saw a Mayan glyph for a penguin on the doom prophecies...

    nonsense, the state capitalism of the U.S. isn't free market. There are other places in the world where one can buy and sell anything and the market actually sets the price. nothing like not needing a doctor to get any medication you want....

    that death toll was just because of pneumonia, secondary infections. not a concern today. really, this whole thing stinks of someone's agenda. and note that after Baxter at least twice makes bad mistakes (one with a body count of over a hundred), they nevertheless get the vaccine contracts and also get samples of this new virus....i'd say it looks like they have a nice profit improvement process going.

    Important projects will be diluted by forking and Oracle's agendas. MySQL, kiss it goodbye, it's already been forked and quality lowered by Sun. Java/J2EE fucked. Open Office, toast. Open Solaris, good riddance, though the closed Solaris might do well. Other important Sun software projects, goodbye. UltraSparc will slowly die, Oracle is about the grid and clustering.

    The novel was really about a government keeping a perpetual state of war (which they themselves provoked) from the soldier's point of view. Written as an allegory about U.S. in Viet Nam war.

    yes, they run OSX on the eMacs which are 2005 models with 1.42 GHz PPC which are more than adequate . What, you think schools should be buying new machines every year or every other year? that'd be a waste.

    processor or RAM intensive tasks are more cost effectively done by a lone desktop, adding memory or God forbid more cores to a Citrix server costs many times that an entire desktop.

    been doing that for over 25 years, caring about other people's data, sometimes even more than they do because there comes a time when they want something back. Even for myself, much of my financial data was useless, until I had to deal with immigration (INS) about getting my wife residency here, I had to use some 8 year old archival data and was very glad I had it.
