    I think if I had one, I'd put a backup of a super-basic thermostat set to a low setting, so if the nest fails, at lease the house won't totally freeze.

    They did create most of the maps that Google is using. They should have been creative commons licenced so Google would be forced to provide their changes back to the public at least.

    You can buy redundant ones intended for servers - they instantly switch to a backup.

    Agreeded. Software patents should be eliminated entirly. Some reform is needed in the rest of the patent system as well.

    That is true. Also some car manufactures (only Honda I know for sure) has put a great deal of R&D into making their cars safer on the outside incase of running into pedestrians.

    Why is that so strange? Many countries have their customs officials in other countries. Would it be better if they flew all the way to LA and then got turned around? If you are in Canada too, and heading to the US via ferry or some airports, you'll check in with US customs before you leave. It's easier for everyone.

    I think you're off by a generation when it comes to who millenials parents are for the most part. Baby boomers are approaching their 70's, some of their grandkids might be millenials.

    That's true, but from the sounds of it this is for business reasons. For business it's probably more important than if it was personal.
