I'm not sure that's why we left Africa.
It was probably more related to natural migration to seek new food supplies, expanding population, etc..

How much money did this cost? When the Russians solved the problem with pencils. What's more valuable, ability to throw mney at a problem til it is solved, or ability to use some intelligence?

All that aside.. I am still in favour of action against Iraq.. but if /you/ want to talk about 'hypocrisy' you ought not to be pointing the finger at France foremost.

I hate mac keyboards (at least the bog standard one I always see) ... not big enough, keys feeling too cramped.. etc.. however.. I do love their power button. It's a power-button .. not a keyboard-key that pretends to be a delete key until you press it. You can't mistake what it is, and it is located in a 'look at me, I'm not one of your regular keys' location to make it even less likely to press it accidently. I'd llike to see some sort of marriage between nicer keyboard.. but mac-style power-button-on-keyboard thingumyjig.

  11. Re:Oh boy. Ask a better question. on Reducing the TCO of IT with Linux? · · Score: 1

Yes, the TCO is subjective. But this does not mean there is no way to measure it.

The cost of Linux over Windows for one user may be X whereas it is X*4 for the next user. So a simple calculation of how many users you have will not work. But by evaluating the needs and abilities of each user in detail, you do have an objective way to measure it.

Of course calculations will always be approximate, but should be able to give a good idea. If you do ask two people in the same company for the TCO, they should arrive at similar figures if they follow the same procedures. The different figures they give would only be for the TCO in relation to themselves.

The TCO for a whole company is easy to discover if you factor in all relevant details (that's the hard bit not necessarily impossible bit).

At least.. this is my opinion :)

It is only childish if he doesn't let us play with his ball. But hang on, he gave me a ball, he gave you a ball, and he gave everyone in the world that wants one a ball (yay GPL).

So now I have a ball, and you have a ball, and we can use our own rules for it.

No-one else seems to want to play with my ball. So if I get upset and start whining about wanting to play with Linus' ball as if it were my own... who's being childish?
