> If it weren't for curiosity, none of us would have left Africa some 6-7 million years ago.
I'm not sure that's why we left Africa. It was probably more related to natural migration to seek new food supplies, expanding population, etc..

How much money did this cost? When the Russians solved the problem with pencils. What's more valuable, ability to throw mney at a problem til it is solved, or ability to use some intelligence?
Anyone who cares about the UN (as we all should) should care about France.. they have a security council veto. Saddam Hussein isn't the only one in breach of UN resolutions. Israel is in breach of some.. with US support. Indeed USA have breached many resolutions themselves, eg illegal blockade of Cuba.
All that aside.. I am still in favour of action against Iraq.. but if/you/ want to talk about 'hypocrisy' you ought not to be pointing the finger at France foremost.
Umm.. can you go and do that on some/other/ lifeboat? I'd rather the power source you're using be used on this lifeboat for.. oh.. I don't know.. keeping the rest of us warm etc. Unless.. you're/really/ burning cd's.. which I think is dangerous... what if the lifeboat catches fire? I think, all around, you better go to some other lifeboat.. and stop endangering me.
I hate mac keyboards (at least the bog standard one I always see)... not big enough, keys feeling too cramped.. etc.. however.. I do love their power button. It's a power-button.. not a keyboard-key that pretends to be a delete key until you press it. You can't mistake what it is, and it is located in a 'look at me, I'm not one of your regular keys' location to make it even less likely to press it accidently. I'd llike to see some sort of marriage between nicer keyboard.. but mac-style power-button-on-keyboard thingumyjig.
forever? Hmm.. that means it has always been around.. for like at least as long as creation... maybe.. does that mean God made xine? Cool.. God write open source software... way to go God!!;)
Yes, the TCO is subjective. But this does not mean there is no way to measure it.
The cost of Linux over Windows for one user may be X whereas it is X*4 for the next user. So a simple calculation of how many users you have will not work. But by evaluating the needs and abilities of each user in detail, you do have an objective way to measure it.
Of course calculations will always be approximate, but should be able to give a good idea. If you do ask two people in the same company for the TCO, they should arrive at similar figures if they follow the same procedures. The different figures they give would only be for the TCO in relation to themselves.
The TCO for a whole company is easy to discover if you factor in all relevant details (that's the hard bit not necessarily impossible bit).
Yes. It is his ball (tree), and so the rules are his. Is this childish?
It is only childish if he doesn't let us play with his ball. But hang on, he gave me a ball, he gave you a ball, and he gave everyone in the world that wants one a ball (yay GPL).
So now I have a ball, and you have a ball, and we can use our own rules for it.
No-one else seems to want to play with my ball. So if I get upset and start whining about wanting to play with Linus' ball as if it were my own... who's being childish?
Thanks, that works a treat! I am aiming at making smaller files with a lower bitrate. So I don't mind losing more quality. I am also politically interested in ogg over mp3. Those songs that are my favourite will be converted to ogg from original cd, but this isn't necessary for all song. Once again, thanks for pointing me towards dbPowerAmp.
Anyone know of a free MS Windows program that will convert LOTS of mp3's to ogg files for me? I realy would like to convert my collection, but hand by hand converting 2000+ files is not my idea of fun.
Not a lawyer, nor know about the American legal system too much. However Habeaus Corpus (however it is spelt) is from latin and means roughly show the body. It refers (in former times) to the legal situation that if a body can not be presented as evidence, there can be little proof a murder has been commited. Now IIRC it has a more general meaning of 'show the evidence'.

Anyone smart enough to install linux, already knows how to get MSWindows for free - and chooses not to

Pine® - a Program for Internet News & Email
I always thought it was: Pine Is Not Elm
or as Nelson put it:
Where's my bloody arm got to? Eeek.. my eye fell out!
Fecese? I assume you mean Faeces (probably feces in the US)?

perhaps glasses will help?
No-one ever told me not to take my own stuff in. And if they did, I'd give them what for!
Don't you take a bag with stuff in? Do they ask to search the bag? If they refuse you entry, kill them, and then patronise elsewhere!
3 years is too long! Why not 2 years, or even 1?
Moz has gone beyond 1-1 user ratio. I have several versions of Mozilla installed.. it's about 1-3 user:browser ratio :)
They're bound to have a computerised dildo to replace that old steam powered one.
