    You're modded troll because they already do run at comparative speeds. GTA IV? On a 2.66 GHz dual-core 64-bit processor, 4GB of 800MHz DDR2, and a 512MB 9800GTX+ under Windows gives framerates reminiscent of Shadows of the Colossus on PS2. Under Ubuntu, it's about the same.

    Loading MS Word? Just use OpenOffice because it's compatible with those document formats. Or run word in WINE - it just fucking works and speed differences are negligible. Ditto Visual Studio, most of that time is going to be hardware, not software, dependent.

    The solution then isn't to sue CNN, but sue the lawyers responsible for this DIRECTLY, for a violation of your property rights, violating the First Sale doctrine, AND you slap a bill on them charging them for the bandwidth they've used.

    Makes it harder for a legal team to do much when you're picking their asses off individually in smaller courts where you stand more of a chance of winning, as opposed to trying to file a crappy class-action suit

    "Kill all the lawyers" has never had more meaning. Forget the corporations, you kill their legal defenses THEN you try killing the company while they're vulnerable.

    No, all it takes is the threat of suing the lawyers themselves since they obviously drafted this EULA - don't sue CNN, sue the lawyers individually. When you start making it too personal for their comfort, then they'll start paying attention. Also, taking this to a small claims court and winning will set precedent for larger and larger suits - the snowball effect.

    I'm sorry but that is wrong. The general law in most states is you may not CONCEAL a blade larger than a certain length, but you may certainly open carry a large blade as long as it is sheathed and secured. Some states don't allow certain weapons, like shuriken (CA and MA) but BLADES are considered mostly a tool.

    Seriously. I used to walk around Memphis with a katana. Open carry, plain sight, not trying to hide it, not in a position for easy draw and attack, either, just for toting. Not one fucking cop said shit to me except "Where ya going with that?" Now, were I wearing a trench coat and the katana was hidden inside, yes, I'd be busted in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I was just stopped, and asked what I was doing with the katana. "Going to kenjutsu class" or "Going out to a quiet spot to practice and meditate" were sufficient enough, and more often than not the truth.

    'Everyone does it' isn't an excuse. You know the old "If Everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you?' adage. Use it against them.

    I really don't know why you're asking Slashdot about remedies to this. Seriously. Anyone with half a brain would know either to fire them or force them to get legal, or have them sued/arrested (whichever China prefers.) There's really no other way to handle this.

    should read:

    "While numerous *LARGE* IT vendors are laying off workers, and corporate IT jobs are being lost as well, plenty of *SMALLER* companies are still hiring."

    If anything I've seen the job market for small IT suddenly go UP. I'm willing to bet these smaller companies are willing to hire these former big-wig employees and those big-wigs are willing to take the lower pay in exchange for financial security in this horrendous economy.

    The big guys are tanking and having to cut because they squandered and litigated themselves into this mess, while the smaller companies don't have this bullshit to worry about and can thus keep turning a profit because they're not wasting money on laws and lawsuits and patent trolling - they just provide actual services, pay their employees, pay their taxes, and go home.

    Actually in this case it's Wire Fraud and Misuse of a Computer. Just like Spore installing SecuROM without telling me and then allowing SecuROM to remove some of my Admin privileges without my expressed permission, Microsoft installing an update to Firefox without my knowledge and making it where I can't remove it by normal means without my permission is something they should be SUED TO DEATH over.

    Mozilla needs to hit them with Antitrust litigation, the people affected by this undisclosed software addition need to be pressing to have Microsoft as an entity placed under arrest for what essentially amounts to hacking a person's system, and I'll nail their ass the same way EA's getting nailed.

    How about you educate yourself enough so you can get a job at a repair depot and look at the price listing for parts yourself, huh?

    Or even better, send in a laptop for repaair with a broken screen. When you're called up and told about the price for LCD replacement, ask the price difference between glossy, matte, transflective, or transmissive panels. You will find the price difference is practically non-existent (hint: expect about a twenty-cents range in price difference across all the panel types.)

    I can call bullshit when the initial numbers don't add up or make sense. He stated that two T5HO lights threw off less light than his 100w incandescent AND used double the power.

    I've done lighting for all sorts of situations, from video production to greenhouse to photography. I can guarantee you I don't need to know the variables when a bullshit claim was immediately made.

    Just as an FYI - T5HO is what's used quite often in electronics repair warehouses, and those are hung an easy twenty to thirty feet overhead. If you replaced all those with incandescents of SAME ACTUAL WATTAGE at the same height and distribution points, the light level in the warehouse would drop 90%, even with focusing reflectors.

    If you can measure lux you can measure lumens.

    Example: lux takes into account the area over which the luminous flux is spread. A flux of 1000 lumens, concentrated into an area of one square metre, lights up that square metre with an illuminance of 1000 lux.

    I can upgrade the video card in my laptop, and my limit on memory is 16GB.

    Mine also comes with Firewire, has a 6-in-1 memory card reader, three ways to output to televisions of any sort, an expansion port, gigabit ethernet, wireless-g, Bluetooth, Lightscribe drive, AND a remote control, webcam, and stereo microphones.

    And it cost 1200 with a three-year accidental damage warranty included, which I've used twice (Faulty nVidia 8-series GPU, then I smashed the LCD)

    You're not getting that out of Apple for that price, EVER.

    The truth is Apple just isn't innovating. They're taking old features, and wrapping it up in shiny white plastic.

    A. CURRENT price difference, having just checked, is once again on average 5 cents difference between glossy and matte panels. Did you bother to learn basic reading comprehension in Elementary school?

    B. Absolutely negligible. There is no added cost to change from glossy to matte in a production run, considering LCD screens are HAND-INSTALLED. Installing a fucking LCD panel is installing a fucking LCD panel, either it gets done or it doesn't. It's quite apparent you do not work in this field, I heartily suggest you be quiet before we continue to make a fool out of you, Lars.

    You are dead wrong. Red light from an HPS INCREASES internode length and causes stretching.

    You obviously failed horticultural science. Blue wavelengths for growth and compact internode spacing because blue light is higher energy potential. That means Metal Halide, Mercury Vapor, or Ceramic Metal Halide, or T5HO lighting at 6500K color temperature.
