So it runs XP, which with the release of Vista is now supposed to be really not that bad, but it is still running Windows and this is Slashdot, so that is bad, but it's not Vista, which is good, but I want to make a "bot net" worm joke, but with Vista the joke wouldn't be right, but it has XP which is supposed to be better, but you know the whole security thing, but, but, but....
AAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!
Who knew that making smart ass comments about Windows could get so complicated?
The original car looked very much like a production Trans Am and could blend in with regular cars, while this new thing looks like some ricer kid's car show fantasy.
Some of these new porker SUV's like the Hummer H2 already have a curb weight of close to 7000 lbs. Add 4 or 5 passengers and their crap and you can easily exceed that 8000lb limit.
Anyone who would buy a useless contraption like an H2 is exactly in the same demographic as someone who would want an elevator for their whip.
Final Cut Pro is the best thing to have happened to Premiere, at least as far as Windows users are concerned.
The last version of Premiere on the Mac (6.5) was a clunky just-good-enough app that contrary to popular belief was not pushed from the Mac market by Final Cut Pro.
It was Final Cut Express "killed" Premiere - Premiere itself was never competition for Final Cut Pro as Avid systems were it's target. Final Cut Express (FCE) came in at $300 and did just about everything that Premiere did for $700, and for it's target market it mostly did it better and continued to get better.
Adobe went back to the labs, licked their wounds, rolled up their sleeves and Premiere Pro was born. Windows users benefited from finally having a serious, but affordable video editing suite, but by this time the Mac market and in many ways by proxy the Pro video market was solidly split between Final Cut Pro and Avid's solutions.
Competition is a great thing for customers and just as all pro video editors benefitted from Avid's wake up call from Apple (Avid systems are no longer so expensive that you have to lease them and Avid finally took notice of these gizmos called laptops), Final Cut users will benefit from Apple's increased need to improve the product to compete with Adobe's return.
OK, the specs on the new MacBooks look great; however, the price difference between my Dell E1505 Core2Duo and a similarly configured MacBook is $1000.
Unless you stole your Dell, the price I get for a system similar to the base $999 MacBook is $896...
The Dell has a 15.4" screen vs the MacBook's 13.3" but the MacBook has the iSight camera, Bluetooth, Remote and much more software.
You must have compared this low end Dell to the MacBook Pro and not the base MacBook.
Can it do the old Amiga trick of grabbing the menu bar and pulling down to reveal the window below it, which could actually be of a different screen resolution?
This may sound like a small, silly thing to stick on, but it does work to remind me that the Amiga was a unique combination of clever programming AND clever hardware at a special time in computing history - What makes this new Amiga an Amiga beyond just sharing a name?
I need to see one live, but I like what I see so far - The ability to also display pdf, word and txt are a (finally) smart move by Sony, and the mp3 AND AAC capability is a nice bonus.
The GUI for the Connect app looks awful familiar though...

I think that a tripod and camera would be plenty of 'robot' for this task.
You can even splurge and make it wireless. Now the hard part is figuring out what to do with the $7500 or so left over
Maybe it's time for MIT and other tech Universities to start a Mentat degree?
...Do they poop out the Spice Melange?
Oh wait...We should be able to see those AFTER the thing is turned on.
Same 2 guys win by cracking the same platforms they won on last year.
I'd wager they each have a handy arsenal of "zero day" exploits ready for next year's competition already.

Sums it all up, I think.
Put one of these powerful green lasers in the hands of an idiot and see that the first thing they'll do is shine it on somebody's face.
Ingram Micro, a distributor to computer and technology retailers, has had very large automated warehouses for a while now.
Even their returns system is automated. (Dubbed "Reverse Logistics")

If there ever was a post that deserves to break the +5 Funny limit, this is it!!!
Well done!

You didn't get that iPod you wanted for Christmas huh?
Intel releases 4004 schematics? Man, that's a lot.
Oh, wait...

I'm pretty sure that Acer shipped their Aspire 9800 before Dell did. Matter of fact, I think that Acer makes Dell's unit.
:D
I've had a chance to play with it a bit and I noticed that the Acer 9800 weighs as much as a 20" iMac!
You feel like a little kid when using it - Like you shrunk somehow.
For a second there I read "Mouse-Made Doodies"...
Finally, a good use for surplus mouse poop!

I hope it's not Guru Meditations...
A recent Sony product I actually want??
That's unpossible!

"Ah, so that's what that turbo button does!"
What about 6502 day? That came and went whitout any notice, you heartless bastiches!
Bender and the Apple II deserve better than that.
