>But when those PCs break and the user can't access his/her email/blog/whatever, they get REALLY pissy. I've worked tech support, this is just how people are.
Why is the computer becoming FUBARed a definite with Linux and something that wont happen with Windows

CSI may be funnier, but not because they want to be.
I don't know about that these days. Those huge heatpipe coolers seem to be pretty good. I haven't used them myself, as I am a fan of H2O as well, but I was impressed by some of the c/w numbers ive seen lately. Though processor heatsinks are approaching the size of water cooling systems as well:)
everything: urpmi --auto-select
one package: urpmi package
I also did a quick google for number of packages, but I cant find hard numbers. Either way, it is VERY rare for me to find something I want that isnt in 'drivas pacakge database.
Have you actually *USED* it recently, or are you like everyone else who complains about what they don't use?
who cares what the extension of the package is? I run Mandrake on one box, ubuntu on the other. The only difference I can tell is what type of package one must download.
Ive played around a lot with Ubuntu, and some with Fedora Core, but I keep coming back to drake. I guess I'm just used to where everything is, plus I havent found a package manager in any distro that I like (other than urpmi).
Yeah, around here poor dns seems pretty common. Even common sites like google would sometimes time out during dns resolution. Caching and using those name servers made a hige difference, though.
Iraq had about as much to do with 9-11 as New Zealand. Get a fucking clue. Yeah, theyre brown theyre too, but that doesnt mean they're terrorists. As shocking as that may be you people really just have to accept that.
overly caustic perhaps, but how can you use your lack of knowing what flashblock is as a defense while claiming my lack of comprehension? Not installing flash rather than adding flashblock is akin to not installing a web browser rather than adding a popup blocker.
So I guess it came from a lack of understanding on all sides. I apologise for getting too much into the (rude, agressive) slashdot spirit;)
I cant find the link, but I used to have doom on my Hp digicam back around 2002 methinks. It was fun, but they warned that the buttons wore out easily, and it caused the camera to boot slower, eating the gears in the lens. I guess the last command in the boot sequence was STOP PUSHING THE LENS OUT!. Delaying that by even half a second made the most horrendous noise.
Does knowing which combination of key-thingies to hit in order to read one's mail actually make one a more intelligent computer user than one who memorizes the clickety boxes?
who are you talking to? Your post seems completely unrelated to the parents.
Damn straight. Thats where mine is. A headless server no less. (mx400 is in it just in case / so it doesn't get lost)
You should probably get some help with that..

Did you mean Hope Springs Eternal or does what you said have a different meaning?
Go slashdot hoard!
