    I don't know about that these days. Those huge heatpipe coolers seem to be pretty good. I haven't used them myself, as I am a fan of H2O as well, but I was impressed by some of the c/w numbers ive seen lately. Though processor heatsinks are approaching the size of water cooling systems as well :)

    upgrade everything, or just a package?

    everything: urpmi --auto-select
    one package: urpmi package

    I also did a quick google for number of packages, but I cant find hard numbers. Either way, it is VERY rare for me to find something I want that isnt in 'drivas pacakge database.

    Have you actually *USED* it recently, or are you like everyone else who complains about what they don't use?

    who cares what the extension of the package is? I run Mandrake on one box, ubuntu on the other. The only difference I can tell is what type of package one must download.

    Ive played around a lot with Ubuntu, and some with Fedora Core, but I keep coming back to drake. I guess I'm just used to where everything is, plus I havent found a package manager in any distro that I like (other than urpmi).

    Yeah, around here poor dns seems pretty common. Even common sites like google would sometimes time out during dns resolution. Caching and using those name servers made a hige difference, though.

    Would it happen to be bell dsl? Mine is and their dns sucks some serious ass

    I use dnsmasq running on a linux server and some public dns servers

    works like a charm

    overly caustic perhaps, but how can you use your lack of knowing what flashblock is as a defense while claiming my lack of comprehension? Not installing flash rather than adding flashblock is akin to not installing a web browser rather than adding a popup blocker.

    So I guess it came from a lack of understanding on all sides. I apologise for getting too much into the (rude, agressive) slashdot spirit ;)

    I cant find the link, but I used to have doom on my Hp digicam back around 2002 methinks. It was fun, but they warned that the buttons wore out easily, and it caused the camera to boot slower, eating the gears in the lens. I guess the last command in the boot sequence was STOP PUSHING THE LENS OUT!. Delaying that by even half a second made the most horrendous noise.
