after all the trouble and money spent by microsoft to (corrupt officials) get ms-ooxml passed by the ISO committee if business and enterprises switched to StarOffice/OpenOffice ODF as the standard to share/store data in, i bet that would force the cost of office furniture in Redmond to go way up...
those of you that use the nvidia driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html will find the current release NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12.pkg1.run will not work with linux-2.6.25
i built 2.6.25 this morning and used menuconfig to load my.config from 2.6.24.4 and once i had my kernel built and rebooted and when i went to build the nvidia driver it failed so i reinstalled 2.6.24.4 which works run the nvidia driver without problems(waits patiently for a new nvidia driver)...

that is exactly what is going on, it is extortion. i am not one for BIG government regulation but there needs to be oversight of some sort, because if not then both the websites that serve news and other content and the customers will be squeezed by the ISPs because they have the keys to the tubes...
what should be done is for banks to work together with law enforcement and create a bunch of fake identities with flags on them that when used it automatically notifies the police and sends all information to the police (photos, fingerprints & whatever else)...
if i had a substantial sum of money to keep in to a checking or savings account (many thousands or millions) i would insist that no electronic transfers of cash are allowed on my accounts from any PC no matter what OS & web browser is used or i go elsewhere, this sounds like a good way for corrupt bank managers to wipe people's accounts clean = "hmm, you must have been using an insecure OS" (makes a good excuse)...
not everybody buying a PC is a first time buyer, take me & lots of others, i recently bought a new LCD monitor (wide screen) that can do 1680x1050 and i don't need another monitor, i already have a decent keyboard & mouse, if anything all i want is a new motherboard & CPU combo, but sometimes i dont want to build my own but a new tower with a great motherboard & CPU sounds great providing the motherboard has a Linux compatible chipset (especially ethernet and audio) and upgradeable - PCIe is a must nowadays, i search around at newegg & tigerdirect but i dont always want to build another = Hey Dell! show me something that makes buying a pre-assembled system from you just as good (maybe better) that what i can get from newegg or tigerdirect, if Dell can do that then they would have captured a chunk of the market share that made newegg & tigerdirect successful...

with this system i still use a parallel printer and PS2 mouse & keyboard with an AGP 8X graphics card, and will likely be using this same system only with newer and updated software for a long time to come, i dont think it is up to CNet to determine what is obsolete, i am sure we all know the trend for new technology (x86_64 & multi-core CPUs, Sata drives, faster RAM & bus speeds & etc) nothing wrong with progress, why buy a new car because the one you own and still runs good and is already paid for? put some miles on that thing & get your moneys worth out of it...
because it is tied to AT&T (big blunder), Apple should have made it like any other independent cellphone allowing the customer to choose any service they want (and no, i don't want to perform any unauthorized and warranty voiding hacks to an expensive cellphone)...
that wont be a smart move to use HDi on the media center, what then? customers could only play HDi videos? while the rest of the world plays video in BlueRay? if BlueRay is the new standard for video/movies , while the xbox is ok i guess providing the game manufacturers are willing to implement that format for the xbox. but for media center (HDi) it would be the odd egg since BlueRay seems to be the way the market is going (just a thought)...
it depends on the kind of drinker you are, do you drink moderately and only open that first alcoholic beverage later in the evening (after supper)? you know anybody that pops the top off any alcoholic beverage too early in the day and drinks excessively until they are slobbering & stumbling recklessly wont be a good anything (especially a scientist)...
i drink a mixed drink every evening after supper daily and only one, using a shotglass to measure the amount, i do enjoy a mild buzz but i hate being drunk and i dislike drunks since they can cause lots of problems (loss of careers/jobs, wrecked marriages, even cause fatal traffic accidents on the road)...
