    the price is too high, might as well go hunt for a second-hand laptop now...

    regular books (made of paper) is more plausible anyway, they don't need electricity and they don't BSOD...

    the original idea of a low cost laptop thingy for third-world children was a good idea, but this has turned in to a commercialized mess, whats next the price going up to 599USD? product activation? these people royally screwed this up maybe beyond repair, the KISS philosophy is needed here more than ever...

    personally i hate using an initrd.img and prefer to build ext2 & ext3 support right in the kernel making initrd unnecessary, if you compile file system support as a module you will need an initrd.img too so insetead of selecting an "M" select "*" you could try that...

    P.S. i never use reiserfs so i can not say if this works with reiserfs or not...

    Linux wont put Microsoft out of business. Microsoft will put themselves out of business that is if they don't learn to adjust the the market. proprietary products are painting themselves in to a corner & a niche. as OSs & software becomes more of a commodity. maybe sooner than most people think...

    Win98se was a decent OS despite the vulnerabilities, it was the last Windows release i actually enjoyed using & tweaking, i have since started using Linux exclusively and don't even have windows installed on my PCs, i bet if Win98se was opened sourced it could be made to accept more RAM than 512 & run on faster CPUs/FSBs/ & etc...

    maybe even closed source software should be outlawed and make ALL software mandatory opensource...

    i HATE UUID, it has made Ubuntu much less friendly with other distros & OSs, i keep slackware with / in hda1 & /usr in hda3 so i decide to try xubuntu 7.04 in an extra partition hda3 & hda5 but i want to keep Slackware's LILO so i put grub in hda3 so it wont overwrite my MBR then after the install i boot up slackware to add xubuntu to LILO and when i reboot to xubuntu it starts to boot and then dies - it wont finish booting, so i go in to xubuntu's fstab and remove the UUID stuff restoring fstab to function like a traditional fstab and it still wont work, i wish there was a boot parameter like UUID=off or noUUID but i have not found one, unless i can fix there will be no xubuntu for me - i will keep slackware as it is my favorite and i wont wipe my MBR for xubuntu, i just keep an extra partition on this machine for testing out other distros...

    iREALLY HATE UUID!

    Sun had a shipping container that was painted black, i work for a construction company that has dozens of those shipping containers and they get hot as hell inside during the summer, who ever implements these things in a shipping container (especially black ones) better get a badass air-conditioner to keep those things cool...

    i wish the "spring forward" and "fall back" thing would stop! i wish the world would just split the difference and leave the clocks alone! next fall move the clocks back 30 minutes and never move them forward or back again, this daylight savings time does not do anything beneficial...

    when i bought a new mobo to slide behind my AMD i bought some thermal paste from a local ma & pa computer store and the paste came in a hypodermic syringe (sans needle) and i asked them about it and they said just use it all, it seemed to be the right amount, my CPU runs about 110 Fahrenheit unless i am compiling software for a long time and then i seen it get as high as 125, then i open the cover to let the tower breathe better and it usually drops back down to around 115...

    i agree completely with both the parent and replies, personally i am atheist, i do not idolize celebrities, i see no need to worship anything either celestial or terrestrial, i guess if most people are pre-disposed to worship something a good book full of wisom & philosophies towards moral living is better than worshipping the celebrities on TV & music video & radio...

    if i was to adhere to any philosophy or religion it would be The Tao or Buddhism...

    i think people are smart enough to figure out what is right & what is wrong without the idea of god & religion, i think binding morality with god & religion created a weakness = when people know it is wrong to steal and rape & murder with out having to believe in a higher power...

    i am not a neat-freak, a cluttered desk with papers & CDroms does not bother me = i don't nitpick the appearance of my desk, on the other hand i am not a slob, i don't leave pizza crust & half eaten donuts laying around to attract bugs, somewhere in between those two extremes is my happy medium...

    mod parent up, there has to be alternatives to corn for ethanol production, sugarcane, sugarbeets, sawdust/wood pulp, lawn clippings, whatever, i agree with the point that raising more corn would help but raising the price of corn will have a bad effect on many peoples, even the price of corn tortillas has doubled in Mexico = lots of poor hungry people down there that need to eat...

    NASA has to make it more difficult than it has to be...

    a plausable idea would be to use a nuclear bomb, not to destroy the asteroid or meteor but to detonate the bomb before it gets too close leaving the asteroid or meteor mostly intact, the blast wave from the bomb can be strong enough to push it out of the way...
