    there could possibly be an upside, more users discover Linux as a viable alternative, so they use xandros or novell for a while and as they learn the capabilities of Linux they find that one of the free distros are just as good and even better so they kick xandros or novell to the curb and switch debian or slackware or any of the other free distros (all four freedoms as per RMS)...

    back during the Soviet Union's occupation of Afghanistan there was a documentary about the neighboring Pakistan and its involvement with the Taliban & the then Ousama Bin Laden who was considered a good guy back then that was financed by the CIA to battle the Soviets in Afghanistan? and there were several machine shops that were making AK47 knockoffs that looked & functioned identical to the Soviet version...

    and doesn't China make a knockoff AK47 too?

    the Russians might get away with squeezing some former Soviet satellites, but i doubt they are going to squeeze some back woods frontier muslem militia garage/machine shops...

    sure, and when is microsoft actually going to build a secure and stable operating system that is opensource so i can rebuild the kernel and any other part of the OS by editing the sourcecode & rebuilding, i want an OS that is literally bulletproof against viruses because i dont want to spend money on crappy third party anti-virus software, i want a firewall built in to the kernel, i want to choose how i want my kernel rebuilt leaving out completely what is unwanted and unneeded, i want an OS that does not call home to the mother ship giving them personal information, i want an OS that does not keep a registry i prefer to keep individual config files within the application's directory as this is much more safer against system wide failure in the event of file corruption...

    since microsoft is not going to produce what i want i refuse to buy or use their products, Linux gives me what i want and just because it is free does not mean it is of less value = to me Linux has more value than ms-windows...

    Linux communist? dont make me laugh, Linux is more democratic in nature than anything else, microsoft is run by a corporate entity that is run more like a totalitarian dictatorship than anything else = users have no say in what can be done to the OS they have to accept what microsoft dictates if they want to use microsoft's kludgeware...

    this could be great for smoking meats if the temperature can be finely controlled, as any meat smoker knows getting the wood too hot will make the meat taste like carbon & turpentine, and with several acres of wooded land (mostly oak & about 20% hickory) i would love to have an infrared meat smoker...

    i do not trust computers & the internet & the websites that offer goods & services for sale, almost every day you hear about some server getting cracked open & vital personal data getting ripped off identity theft, some lame brained government official getting his laptop full of SSN#s and other vital personal info on hundreds of thousands of people ripped off, banks and other financial institutions requiring MS-Windows & Internet Exploiter only which has the worst track record when it comes to being a secure platform, when a hardened Linux or BSD would be better...

    and you expect me to trust this? with banking/finance and making purchases? or doing anything with my vital personal information? NOT A CHANCE!!!
