You do realize that this patent could affect the Treo keyboard also, right? RIM and Handspring fought their own bitter legal fight over the exact same patent.
That may say more about the subway population than the device. In the NYC subways, Treos are definitely becoming more common. Not nearly as ubiquitous as iPods though:)
To name a few non-videogame reasons why you might want 4 GPUS in your machine:
Energy - oil/gas exploration, Medicine - Protein and pharmaceutical research, Defense - flight and ballistics simulations, Entertainment and Media - renderfarms, special effects, art and character development.
So there are still lots of applications out there where the more polygons, the better. Nowadays lots of this work can be done with these high-end graphics cards, which are actually really cheap compared to the SGI system you used to need to buy.
I have a Treo and I use GNU keyring for this.. It's free and works great..

Not really. Unions only work for jobs that can't otherwise be outsourced. Construction on buildings has to be done here, the police have to patrol our streets, teachers have to work in our schools, boats need to be unloaded at our docks. But there's no reason that our software has to be written locally or that our server farms have to be located in this country. Unionization would kill the IT industry.
People dont use blackberries because of the OS. They use them because of the small form factor (new ones are even better) and the push email.
Hell, I think PalmOne's Treo could kill the blackberry if it offered REAL push email and instant messanger applications.
But knowing Microsoft, this thing is going to end up bundled with Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, the entire Microsoft Office suite, and be just slightly too big for my pocket.
I want: 1. small as possible 2. best screen possible 3. blackberry/treo keyboard 4. push email 5. IM
Is it the case that Google's search dominance is a direct result of it clinging onto a patent for PageRank ?
Their search dominance is a direct result of PageRank. That they have a patent on it prevents other companies from copying the idea or hiring their employees away (Microsoft is notorious at doing both these things). So yes, the patent is important.
Sorry kids, but patents and "Do no evil" are mutually incompatible concepts.
Really, if someone is willing to do the job for a quarter of the price and doesn't care if they live twelve deep in a studio apartment, work in a tech farm with the fire doors chained shut all day and without any regard to societies business regulations (contributing to social security, disability insurance, unemployment insurance, medicair, an IRA or a 401K then you have a personal problem.
Sounds like my job! I'm an independent contractor living and working in New York City.
WEP is like gun laws in the US. They only keep the honest people from having guns
Of course, if everyone in society was honest, we wouldn't need any laws, right?
Wouldn't need any guns either..

What's with all the anti-baseball comments? Out of any sport, baseball is probably the nerdiest one, since it is ALL about statistics. Who to put in as pitcher, what pitches to throw, who to walk, how to arrange your batting lineup, etc etc. It's certainly not a sport with a lot of action in it. The real strategy involves probability and math, I would say even more so than a game like poker. You can see why the athletes will do anything, including steroids, just to raise their stats by a few points...
It is fascinating that it seems they are only doing it client-side after the transaction - if so it is clearly a massive design flaw (and I'm suprised it took so long to find).
Doesn't it have to be done client-side? The DRM ties that file to that specific client machine.
There already is something that the entire solar system falls into. It's called the sun. We just happen to be in a stable orbit around it. Good luck finding enough matter elsewhere in the solar system to "suck up" the sun - it doesn't exist.
Why do people think black holes are like vacuum cleaners? They are just really massive suns. You could orbit around one if you wanted, it doesn't just suck everything up automatically, any more than any other big source of gravity.
Does it mean that USPS has a right to open all your mail, and then copy and use the contents as it wishes?
If the USPS required you to sign up for a mailing address, and during that registration process made you agree to those terms, then yes that would be allowed.
It is a tool of the rich and powerful (don't believe me? See if you can afford a lawyer! The law isn't made for you, you can't really afford it!)
dumbass, if you can't afford a lawyer, they will appoint one for you..
Thats got to be the most retarded thing I've ever heard. The ACLU doesn't get involved in cases like this.
I wouldn't call you cynical.. Just ignorant..

"monopolistic"???
Does anyone out there really think Lexmark is anywhere close to having a monopoly on printer ink, or do people just not know what that word means?
If you have to ask why, then it's not for you.

That's it.
Yes, patents ARE a violation of google's do no evil policy, as it gives them a monopoly on the good search engine algorithems.
It does? What's stopping you from coming up with a better search engine algorithm? Are you just not smart enough, or is the problem to hard to solve?

Right now I get 6 MTV channels. 5 of them show music videos all the time. Maybe you need to upgrade to digital cable?
How far are the probes from the heliopause?
If they are far enough, can the mission be scrapped for now and then restarted when they get close? Maybe in 3 years when GWB isn't president anymore?

Is it really too hard to get up to turn off a light (or get a smaller lamp, if you're arthritic)?
Yeah for some people it is hard to get up to turn off a lamp. They're called disabled. Asshole.
