I was under the impression that the DRM on cds only stops them from playing in Windows. If it works in a cd player, then there has to be an unencrypted version of the audio on the disk.
Also, you could find out which labels use DRM and boycott those labels. There's no need to stop buying cds just because a couple labels sell defective ones.
The only times when I don't mind in-game advertising is 1) for sports games, where it generally makes the game more realistic, and 2) when the developers advertise their own games.
From what I understand, the GEMA is funded by individual artists and composers, not major record labels like the RIAA. I wonder how many of their members agree with this lawsuit...
People should use parametric SQL statements. No excuses. In this manner, no escaping is ever necessary.
The problem is that most hosts are still using MySQL 3, which doesn't support prepared statements. There's really no excuse for that, considering that MySQL 5 is very stable now.
Um... do you have a local webserver running on port 80? If not, of course nothing is loading. Try using ~/.mozilla/firefox/*/chrome/userContent.css to block the ad-frame completely.
Vinyl is far from dead, I actually prefer them over cds. Aside from the superior sound quality, most people enjoy the large cover art, posters, etc that come with vinyl versions of albums.
If you have a right, but are prevented from using it, you really *don't* have that right anymore. Just being written down somewhere doesn't make a right a right. The written form is just the description of the right. A right is only a right when it can actually be exercised.
No, everyone has rights. If your government doesn't protect your rights, it doesn't mean you don't still have them.
I agree, Zunes and iPods both suck. I have a 30 gig Cowon X5, and I like it a lot better than friends' iPods I've used. Cool company too, my joystick started malfunctioning a few months after the warranty expired, so I called tech support and they sent me a new one.
Where the hell does everyone get the "$20 for 1 good song and a bunch of fillers" thing from. When I buy a cd I pay $10 or $15 for 40 to 60 minutes of music that I actually like. If an artist is able to release a whole album with just one good song... then that probably means they suck.
I have a 20 gig X5, and I love it. The interface takes a few minutes to get used to, but it's definately not hard to use. And the voice recorder really comes in handy. I haven't used it to play videos, the screen resolution seems too small to really enjoy watching stuff. It might be useful for anime fans though.
Unfortunately, I don't think it can compete with Apple. For one thing, there's no option to browse your music using id3 tags, you have to use a file tree browser. Plus it's not compatible with any online music stores that use drm. It's a cool geek toy, but not ready for the mainstream.
My school's admin gets really pissed whenever you do -anything- that you weren't told to do. I've been suspended for installing portable firefox on my student drive...
I have the 5.1 mix of Opeth's Ghost Reveries, and I've had no problems playing it on my MythTV system.

Clinton was never impeached, and the only people that thought he should have been were the republican nutjobs.

Who the hell came up with that name? See kids, this is why crack is illegal.

PayPal is owned by eBay, which is number 11 on that list.

As far as I know, PS2's dvd player is buggy as hell. Two friends of mine who use their PS2s to play dvds both have trouble playing some discs.
I live in America, and I learned that in middle school.

There's tons of good music to buy, you just have to find it first. That's what BitTorrent is for.
I own about 20% of my music collection, and in my opinion that's fair. Download tons of albums, and buy the ones you like the best.

Does anyone have a good camera and a Mac?
I find that very insulting...
I wouldn't want to be seen dead using Windows.

I ordered their new album about two weeks ago, and I still haven't gotten it. That's about the only downside to self distribution.
I'm sure FreeBSD is saying the same thing...
Slipknot isn't metal.
