looking at the statistics for the recently released PS3 folding@home client, i begin to wonder how much better the xbox360 could do, since F@H already has an ATI GPU client, that according to the F@H statistics page, produces about 2.4 times the teraflops per processor as the PS3's CPU-only client. granted, a knowledgeable individual might be able to leverage the XNA dev kit to design a F@H client (if the dev kit even gives enough 'bare metal' access to the GPU), but that would see very limited distribution, i was wondering what could be done to have the xbox360 dashboard team design an integrated distributed processing client (a dedicated client, background client during dashboard/etc, or both) so that those idle CPU cycles (almost 11,000,000 CPU/GPU's worldwide, just 1% of them would contribute approximately 6.47 petaflops, over 10 times the current total teraflops in the project) could help cure cancer. as someone who lost his mother to cancer at a young age, i can't begin to express how significant this could be to help others avoid that same tragedy.
how is it that your product, which according to your documentation, does not accelerate TCP, shows more more performance gains in a game that uses ONLY TCP, then the other game listed, which uses ONLY UDP?
well, there's an obvious solution...

you ever used netflix? you understand that queue thing? so lets say for this hypothetical download to a tivo box dealie, you can have 3 'active' movies at a time. once you delete one, you get the next one... which was already downloaded, since netflix already has your queue, so as long as they buffer a couple movies ahead on your queue list, the consumer would never see the actual downloading, and without extra (behind the scenes, audio tracks, etc), the basic movie would be still be large for decent picture quality, but still easily doable in 2-3 hours off the average broadband connection (coming from dedicated netflix servers that have the bandwidth to serve up the juice. or have the background downloads scheduled during the nonpeak times during the day)
disconnect your boss from the network and tell him the holes are fixed. when he complains, plug him back in, but advise him that the network is insecure.
really? weird. this TiVo i have next to me has a DVD burner (humax DRT-800) in it, and only cost me $200 (after rebate), toss in another $300 for the lifetime subscription, and its $500, HALF of what you claim. yes, it is only 80 hours. lets see, pricewatch lists 200gb hdd's for $94, and 250gb for $114, either of which would work fine, and only take ~20 minutes to configure and install...
the automated commercial skip (thats not available on new models)? or the 30 second skip? you can program your tivo remote to do 30 second skip, just go into now playing, start something playing, then hit select, play, select, 3, 0, select, you should hear some bong noises, then the skip button the remote will skip 30 seconds instead of skipping to the end.
buy the $60 ($5 more then retail MSRP) silver edition from steam, and you'll get every valve game ever, so you can at your leisure play thru half-life 1 (in original, or newly created source-engine flavors), and then optionally play the alternative perspective opposing force, before heading into half-life 2.
trying clicking 'run in offline mode' they put it into steam as an option, for a reason, after all. and steam can also backup your games to CDs or DVDs now (right click, backup, click which games you want backed up, choose.iso size, and it makes'em)
so we could recreate that section in diamond age?

or buy a TiVo (40 hour unit, see www.tivocommunity.com for how to add additional IDE hard drives for more space) for $99 (after $100 rebate), then tack on $299 for a lifetime service agreement (or $12.95/month if you don't think you'll keep it that long - $6.95/month for each additional box in your house), and you're how many $$'s ahead, with how much extra time from not building your own system??
the non-networked version (available now) sells from importers for about $220 plus shipping, so the new one will probably be around 250-280. momitsu has been really good about useful updates in their new (user-flashable, cd.iso based) firmware updates, so they might be able to sneak in pcmcia.11g support after release. unit can also do pal/ntsc conversions (all digital, no up/down conversions yoyo'ing between the 2 before final output) and can be made macrovision and region code free from the remote. yes, i really want one too.
you could get the new unit from momitsu (the v880n) which does all that, and has DVI output for your HD set (so you can actually appreciate the progressive scan), and supports ogg.

i'm kinda leary of that, what happens if something cracks your windshield on the expressway and damages the circuits?
networks have been doing this since before PVRs, its just more noticeable (and annoying) now.

well, its a focus chassis with an SUV body on it. be careful "offroading", 'cause it ain't the WRC focus chassis they're using...
forgot to mention, the momitsu unit has a DVI output and lots of other cool bells and whistles
is listed here region free, etc, kinda expensive (at least in the US) most retailers are listing it at $400+shipping
someone's thought of this before /sarcasm off
they wouldn't be called 'bits' then if they aren't binary....
but can support .11g with a firmware update from the manufacturer, who have in the past, been very good about adding wanted features.
2 online retailers for the v880 (non networked) which will probably have the v880n next month: TaipeiPC ExtremePhono
