i just stopped intaking anything with caffiene in it, carbonated beverages, non-carbonated beverages (cocoa, coffe, teas), foods with it (chocolate, etc), after about 4 days i was fine./shrug.
at least use the right terms, 1080i gives you 60 fields per second, which calculates to 30 frames a second. anyone remember non-interlaced monitors? both formats have better detail/resolution than 'standard' 480i and 'good' 480p, so whichever one your new TV supports, more power to you! (just make sure that it does those resolutions natively, and it doesn't downconvert/upconvert via line-doublers and similar, because that will defeat the purpose of having this really nice TV to watch really nice signal input, if its getting dorked with by a video preprocessor that will add artifacts, noise, etc into it)
while working at a certain dotcom (now defunct), one of my tasks was to make sure certain things were 'family friendly', and thus, the Porn Management System was born (PMS for short). a bunch of PHP and PERL scripts that went out, and found porn, so i could run it thru a text analyzer to get patterns, word usage, etc, so that we could kill 95% of the 'objectionable' content that was still going thru the portal site. but the best part was, i had to, uhm, perform quality assurance on the ~4gigs of links the PMS had accumulated, to make sure they were all... graded appropriately.
a byte is (normally) 8 bits. a word depends on your system (likewise, a doubleword again depends on system), but is usually 2 bytes. and does kilo mean "1000" or does it mean 10^3?
actually, i'm 99% sure that all 3 character combinations have been registered in.com and most in.net also. maybe some have expired since i saw that statistic tho
simplified: makes shiny spots and reflections on objects move smoothly over the object no matter how many polygons are making up the object (the other 'bad' way would kinda look like someone broke a mirror, and then put the pieces back together side by side, and passed something over it. yes, you would kinda see the object, but the seams between polygons, or mirror pices in this case, would distort the image). yes, i know its not accurarte, but its a simplified version. YMMV.
just picked one of these up the other day. got 2.4.20 w/ apm in kernel running on it. set up a script to monitor its power consumption, and just let it sit for most of a day. discharged normally from 96% to 37%, then dropped to 5% over the course of 1 minute and ticked down to 1% before i shut it down and recharged it. so, the first theory was, well, its a 6 cell pack, perhaps 2 of the cells are going bad (resulting in ~32% or 1/3 of the 'available' charge going away), but since then, i've used it 2 more times, where i've run it down quite a bit, and the 'big drop' point seems to be getting lower (aka last time i checked, it went from 34% to 5%, which isn't great, but if the trend continues, the battery will seem to 'recover').

Better quality video capture than Tivo, better search
unless they changed something major on their new models and software revisions, neither of these is true...
the picture quality has always been worse or equal depending on the quality level chosen (comparing standalone units, and the replay quality has always been worse then the directv/tivo combo units), and tivo added VBR (variable bitrate recording) to keep the quality and reduce the space taken, the audio capture has always been worse on the replay, and most of their 'good' search bits they imitated from TiVo, but it still doesn't do it as well as the TiVo
switch under the spout to make sure there's a glass there ice dispenser, and make sure it dumps the ice into the glass first (so that the drink poured over the ice is chilled) ingredient matrix, you type in what the 16 liquids are, it looks them up on something like webtender.com and generates the list of possible drinks configurable 'cut-off' point, since there are unique IDs, it can control the rate at which each ID can get drinks from it (whether it be calculating from the height/weight/sex from when they registered, to a flat 2 drinks/hour, etc)
/shrug i have 70-80 season passes, and it takes about 2 minutes to recompute 2 weeks worth of recordings after i change the priority of one, not sure why your's is taking that long unless each show has 14 episodes per day on....
the directv w/ tivo (and ultimateTV) have 2 tuners built in the 1 set top box, so assuming you have a dual LNB dish and the correct splitter installed, you can watch 1 thing (already recorded) and record 2 things, all at the same time, on satellite (directv only at this time, dish seems content to not let others play in their sandbox), or watch 1 thing live and record another in the background, or constantly switch between 2 things recording at the same time (pause one when it goes to commercial, switch to other, watch til it gets to a commercial, switch back, fast forward thru to show, repeat)
now, i do believe you were challenged to a rematch next year at challenge park extreme, after the 'shatnerball' scenario charity game this year, for another bout of charity paintball/scenario play, so assuming you are willing to show up again and play: (i did not have the cash to attend and support tom kaye and the borg team this year, but i fully intend on being there next year and utterly destroying those weak federation players and silly klingons. =p) -will you be 'recruiting' any additional celebs to come along and help raise money (wil wheaton, i'm looking your direction...)? -would there be a possibility of changing the distribution of the charity money (say, 50% of the money to the winning teams charity, and 25/25 to the 2 other charities, assuming a 3 way scenario again)? -any fond/interesting memories from the weekend (like interesting run ins with the other 66% of the players who i'm sure were intending on shooting out 'captain kirk')? -your opinion on whether play violence (be it paintball, video games, or other forms) does or does not influence peoples behavoir (positive or negative) in real life?
no, tivo doesn't. if tivo thought they still owned the hardware, the hard drive hacks wouldn't be out there. the tivonet hacks wouldn't be out there. tivo thinks they own the software and the service. and you know what, i think they are right. its basically $10 for a subscription to 'tv guide' and additional software updates. people say the software updates should be free. fine, they actually are, since you don't have to have an active subscription to get them, so therefore $10 a month gets you tv guide info (program listings + some other content). anyone complaining about tv guide charging for delivering a magazine to your house?
The article, and many responses clearly state that the TiVo advertisied the service as optional.
hmmmm, odd that all the TiVo boxes have a BIG UGLY STICKER on them saying "TiVo Service REQUIRED". (then again, you trolls will say sue them for false advertising since it will work w/o service. sigh.)
So.. is there any way to get a TiVo that can make use of Ethernet, such as from my DSL I'd like some way to get those results without hacking up my TiVo -- I just want it to work!
you want a TiVo to have functionality it does not, without hacking it? i wouldn't hold your breath. go for the TiVoNet kit, lots of people have install'em and they work fine. hop on over to the Underground forums at www.tivocommunity.com to get more info.
Tivo is making it harder to skip commercials and is inserting some of their own. Replay has a "skip ahead 30 seconds", while TiVo does not uhm, you got that flipped around. replaytv inserted their own ads over pause screens (but has since stopped doing that), TiVo has never (and says they will never). and TiVo 1.2 and 1.3 software does have a 30 second skip functionality (changes the 'skip to live' button, check out the forums at www.tivocommunity.com for how to activate it) and 2.0 probably does also, just nobody's figured out how to activate it. the article you mention is misleading (very much like the privacy foundation report about tivo) in that it simplies implies that TiVo could be doing this in the future, without any evidence to back that they will (like saying "if you go outside, and run across the street, lightning will hit you, a plane will crash on you, and then a poodle will pee on your remains", it COULD happen, but the likelyhood is so insignificant....). not that anybody would believe it, but the president of TiVo has stated numerous times that the company will NEVER have any 'in your face' advertising. food for thought.
In actuality, 99% of users wouldn't be able to use this feature, since they have only one cable decoder box. Since most cable is moving to digital cable where all channels are scrambled, you can only tune to one channel at a time through the ultimate TV box too bad ultimatetv only works with directv satellite, so you would never be able to get it to work with a cable box. and you would need a dual lnb setup on the satellite (costs about $50ish depending) to use the 2 tuners.
>>Removal of the 30-second skip backdoor
i'd say it would be more accurate to say 'the old backdoor trick no longer works'.
>>Capacity reduction for hacked TiVos
it was a rather pathetically small amount lost to 'reserved space' and TiVo did WARN people for approximately 6 months (or more) before the update was released that this would happen
>>Autocorrection jump-back changes
and thanks to Otto, you can change it back easily (or to whatever you think is the best amount), check out the underground forum over on www.tivocommunity.com
>>made sure that it had the 1.3 software, because I live where there is no service.
you don't live in the USA or UK? just cause they don't CURRENTLY have your listings, let'em know, should take at most 3 weeks (worst case). friend bought one, his apartment complex's custom cable dealie didn't have listings. told TiVo, within a week he had listings, and they emailed him every step of the way so he knew how it was progressing. but if you don't live in the USA/UK, then i kinda see your point.
its already been figured out how to upgrade the ReplayTV's primary drive (i.e. replacing it w/ a bigger one). no word yet on changing a secondary drive to a different size. check out These msg boards for more specifics.
would the/. effect be considered an 'attack'?
