I completely agree. In fact if my business and livlihood was dependent upon MS software I would probably watch the market conditions closer than any linix zealot, and probably be pretty pessimistic about market conditions.
MOD PARENT UP!!
It might be best to state that I am not an avid PC gamer, but I like to have the flexibility to game when I want to.
Also as a student it is a pretty good deal, educational discount on the imac to the 'free' (paid for by my lab fees) MS Academic alliance copy of XP. So it isn't as expensive as it is for the masses.
I would like to think that marketshare will drive game releases. If OS X gets more marketshare the games will follow. But regardless, much like the previous thread in the games section, I am ready to dump XP. I hate the blasted thing, I have spent so much time messing around with it trying to lock it down well enough so it doesnt get the malware blues, and to keep it running well. The maintenance nightmare that is XP is killing me. At least with it partitioned off from the useful things I do with my machine I dont have to worry about my critical files dissapearing or my girlfriend turning the machine into a zombie on some botnet.
Personally, I think my disdain for XP will cause me to use it less and less. Hopefully the games follow, but if they don't I still have a great set up and the OPTION to do it all.
I just got the iMac because of bootcamp. Now I will be able to play games (battlefield 2) and run some weird applications that I use.
I think the author is missing the point, it is all about weaning users off of windows, not giving them another platform to run windows. I don't boot into windows unless I have to. Hopefullly I have to boot into windows less and less as time goes on.

But the important question is:
Does it run DVDShrink?
Yes, I grew up in non-metro MN, and true it is much more conservative then in ther twin cities. However, there still exists a stong liberal streak. Not necessairly on issues like gay rights, or even open documents, but more on issues of economic opportunity, and equality. I think much of that sentiment grew out of the agricultural base and farmers and their families knowing the hardships of having the 'deck stacked against them'.
Where did you go in non-metro MN? Not to troll, but am curious as I grew up in SE MN.
It was briefly considered a swing state, more for sensationalism then for substance. Kerry carried the state by ~4%.
True, it was closer than say 1984, but that was to be expected in a nation so equally divided by so many things (War, economic issues). Make no mistake though, MN is still very much a liberal state.
The important thing to note also that MN has a very strong tradtion of 3rd parties, and that may have figured into it as well.
Thats a true and appropriate critique. Although I think they do a good job mixing in a few electronic songs into the mix. You should listen late at night and on the weekends, there tends to be a lot of it on then. Which I guess means that its pretty marginalized.
For instance I really like the late night stuff, so I actually put their stream on through winamp, output to mp3, load up my ipod and take it with me to work. It is a great system especially since they now again have the 128bit stream.
You could send the DJs an email or start a thread on the forum, they seem to be pretty responsive to users.

I thouht Netscape lost the browser war because they created this huge bloated package that took 5 minutes to open up, and was almost painful to use?
Not meaning to troll, but I think that had a lot more to do with the fall of their marketshare then W3C standards.
It seems logical as Iwata said that the unique thing about the revolution will that the way it connects the things such as controllers, internet, etc will be fundamentally different.
Also he stated that it is playable on a pc monitor
I suggest you see the tidbits being released about the Revolution.
It seems Nintendo wants to have an online service where you can download any past Nintendo game from 'Donkey Knog to Super Mario Sunshine'
So essentially you will have a system that can play games from every past generation, which IMO kicks the pants off of being able to play emulated Halo.
Square-Enix's policy has been to develop games for the system with the largest install base.
They don't have exclusive deals with Sony, it is just that Sony has had the largest install base since the merger, and has thus gotten the games.
Things could be very different if the 360 takes off, besides its not like its a seq. to FF7, which is going to the PS3 and has much more promise.
Backwards compatability will be selective? Does this mean that they will be emulating the xbox hardware?
Thats pretty amazing if it works, but I have my doubts that it will even run as smooth as the current xbox.
Hopefully this means a much faster virtualpc, so I can play pc games on my mac.
There is only one form of perfect revelation, and that is God taking the form of a human and talking to us, Jesus. If the bible was meant to be the be all end all of revelation, why didn't Jesus write it all down for us? He seems a bit more qualified than even Paul, or any of the other unknown pharisee authors?
Ok, I attend a small catholic school in Minnesota, and have taken a numbe of theology courses. One thing to keep in mind, and this is official church teaching, is that the bible is open to historical interpretation. It is not meant to be taken word for word.
The whole point of the book is that it is a theological book meant to convey theological meaning, nothing more or less. I must admit the lessons learned in the book are invaluable even in todays world. Jesus provides a great example of charity and compassion (although I must admit he was a bit quick to temper).
The teachings of Jesus taught us to focus on what is absolute and unwavering, aka the TRUTH. This means a persuit of science is completely valid in a Christian context. I suggest you check out Paul Tillich's Dynamics of Faith.
Don't confuse Jesus and Christianity with a Southern concervative power grab.
Great, now who is going to support the democrats if they alienate the slashdot crowd? Judging by the politics coverage, we seem to be about the only hotbed of support left (no pun intended).
Is it just me, or does it seem like the party cuts its own throat almost every three months?
Not to mention the govenor is a dumb ass, does he actually think this will go through and help Wisconsin how? I have a feeling that the tax revenue would be lost by tech companies fleeing to Minnesoata, Michigan, or Illinois (whichever is closer).
free as in speech not as in beer.
Free is far to often misunderstood because usually Linux is both, so people get the language confused. Check out http://www.fsf.org/
No one says that you can't charge for your work (in fact thats what this entire ask slashdot is about), its just that the market doesn't seem to support high prices for software unless its done through monopoly (microsoft) and they can push the price. I don't think anyone would disagree that programmers deserve a paycheck its just that we haven't been able to adequately find the balance between the freedom that so many of us feel is necessary for software to actually enhance and benifit humanity and the for profit world we find ourselves in.
Are these two things mutually exclusive or can the co-exist?
Unfortunatly, I feel that if they can't live togetherthen there is no way that free software will ever make it. Without nuclear war or a lack of oil I don't see the American lifestyle obsession and its global colonization slowing down and retreating.
p.s. I think that you will find that artists musicians, directors, actors, and programmers are in the top half of the distribution of average incomes.
This is exactly what I am talking about. There seems to be a very fine balance between the two ideals, but I want to know how does an open source advocate respond to a claim like this?
I especially wonder about someone like RMS who insists that all software he uses is free. Would he rather die then get a pacemaker running proprietary software? Is there an free solution? I think this is extrememly important because software in our world is much bigger than an OS (proud as we are of linux), word processing, even Open Bios etc and there needs to be some sort of unified response by the advocates of fs/os and I am wondering if that exists today.
How can one justify that they open everything up and put the company at "risk", but at the same time how can they keep it and save only the few who can afford the technology and know who makes it.
I completely agree. In fact if my business and livlihood was dependent upon MS software I would probably watch the market conditions closer than any linix zealot, and probably be pretty pessimistic about market conditions. MOD PARENT UP!!

always preview first I guess, and don't use the Plain Old Text format. Sorry Pal.

too much homogenity in society, I would be more worried about too much homogenity in the gene pool.
Every time I drive through and the people glare at me, I can't help but notice how close together their eyes are...
