But Linux is FOSS, OSX isn't (well, darwin is, but that's not the point). Unix is great, and I much prefer a Unix like OS over windows, but I also would much rather it be free and open.
see if you can get them to start handing out this. very useful introduction to opensource, without being as pushy as preinstalling software.

I'm currently running Ubuntu on a cutting edge gateway laptop. It's running fine, everything was detected except wireless, and it took me 5 minutes to set that up using ndiswrapper
I think what we're going to see soon, and are already starting to see in xandros (a great distro for technophobes) and Lindows (or whatever it's called now, I'm too drunk to try to remember) is a split in the directions distros are going, there will soon be distros as user friendly and power-userunfriendly as windows.
Now to try and decipher the text image...
danm, now to try again
back in the 80's there was a program called HIV information that was sent on floppy to a bunch of people in the medical community. In the lisence of the software there was a warning that if they didn't pay for it there would be repurcussions. On something like the 30th usage of the program it would encrypt all the files on the hard drive and demand a ransom to unencrypt them.
I haven't been shot yet. =-O
but seriously, if you want to have fun, go down to texas and tell people you're an atheist, they just about lose it. Most of them have never met an atheist, or anyone who's not a christian.
I'm not sure it would matter, a lead slug isn't heavy enough for the terminal velocity to cause any serious damage to a person.
I've seen someone get hit with a penny dropped off a tall building. He went "OUCH!" and got pissed off, but his head didn't implode or anything like that.
If the government of the United States were as bad as you seem to imply, then you would be posting anonymously out of fear. Assuming you are a citizen of the USA, if not, then You're buying into alarmist propaganda that people are spreading here. The direction Bush is leading us in is dangerous, but he hasn't won yet.
Well, if you really want to know, you could probably do one. It couldn't be too hard to put a simple one togeather, and it would solve the question for you.

yes, slashdot is desperate for traffic. It's not like pages that mearly get linked to by slashdot go down almost instantly.

I wish that were done, I'd be curious as hell to see the results. I'm willing to bet they'd come out just about even though.

Now why is it ethically wrong? You run linux on computers made by big corporations ;)
Unamerican doesn't have the sting it used to.
