I don't disagree with you, but you have to remember that all hijackings before then were with groups that have some sort of demands other than "Allah be praised!" as they suicide attack us. In retrospect the "Common Strategy" tactic was stupid, but you cannot fault the thinking at the time, it fit nicely with all hijackings up to that point. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Stereotyping asshole. There really is nothing wrong with fingerprinting, just like there is nothing wrong with owning a gun. If you abuse your rights, you will suffer the consequences. There is no f-ing police state here. The big question is why the hell do you nitwits associate fingerprinting with criminal activity? Sounds to me like you've seen too many bad movies.

Everybody who requires a security clearance also must submit to fingerprinting. There are countless other valid reasons for fingerprinting as well. Why do you think that only people being charged with a crime are the ones that submit to fingerprinting? How is it any worse than having your picture taken for your passport? The only difference is that they now have something to tie back to you. This is not a police state.

Sensitive information is likely FOUO and definitely NOT classified. Classified information is always always always on a separate network. Because the most secure network is one that cannot communicate with the outside world.

Guys guys guys... you're missing the point. It doesn't matter if the attack was social or security based. The fact is it is a Mac based botnet. That's it. No double standard here, just reporting that a Macintosh based botnet is up to no good. The bottom line is that security is up to the user. I could go %sudo ALL=NOPASSWD: ALL in my /etc/sudoers and security goes right out the window. It's all in control of the user. People are (as a collective) just not that smart. There can never be a secure system as long as there are users of the system.

In all seriousness... how do they expect to generate energy with this? I mean 99% of a subway ride is either you sitting there, or standing room only. Either way, you're not walking around and thus not generating any power unless you are boarding or exiting. I didn't RTFA, are they talking about putting these peizoelectric generators on the floor of the station or the subway car itself? It would probably make more sense to line the damn subway tracks with something like this so that they can "recycle" some of the energy used to power the cars.

Sandbox everything legacy, use an emulator that won't allow legacy apps with security holes to f-up the system. If a smaller company like Apple can do it successfully, then why can't Microsoft? Stop sacrificing security for compatibility, and just re-write everything using a *nix foundation. Remember, those who don't understand UNIX are destined to re-create it, poorly.
