I record the file extension, a short description, a general "type" (text, binary, image, video, etc) if known, the mime type(s) (if any), one or more urls that point to more information about the file extension or mime type. I'm going to go back at a
later time and flesh out the descriptions in anticipation of a possible web-based search engine.
I collect file extensions and mime types. Currently, my database consists of almost 500,000 entries. It's the largest in the world, to my knowledge. I don't know if this database could be useful. It's kind of a hobby of mine
No, let's build a mile-high tower on that spot,
a mile-high tower built so that it can't suffer
catastrophic failure if hit by an aircraft. I believe that Richard Buckminster Fuller had plans for a mile high tower, designed on geodesic principals, to be built in Japan. We should dust those plans off.
I read somewhere that IBM almost chose the 68000 chip for the original IBM PC, but in the end they chose the 8086 because it worked with more off-the-shelf hardware. I wonder how different a world it would be today if IBM had actually decided to use the 68000 chip?
I have port 80 on my Cisco 675 router turned off.
In fact, it was the first thing I did when I configured the router. But somehow this Code Red worm is still hanging the router occasionally, so that I have to power cycle it. Anyone know why this is happening?
My favorite efnet irc server of all time was irc.winternet.com. Winternet itself was a cool name; it was located in Minnesota or Michigan. The opers and admins were great people. I don't remember why winternet delinked.
I found Windows NT 3.0, complete box set with diskettes AND CD-ROM, for three bucks at the local Good Will store. It was marked "PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE -- NOT FOR RESALE", and unfortunately would not install on my retrocomputing 486/66. However I also found Turbo Pascal 6.0, complete box set, for two bucks, and after reinstalling DOS and Win 3.1 on my 486/66, Turbo Pascal installed just fine! =)
Certainly, we should deflect an asteroid that is headed for earth impact. But why not park the thing in a high earth orbit and mine it or use it as a base for a large space station?
Word of warning about those external Cisco 675 router/modems: They run very hot. I've had one burn out on me already due to what I believe is inadequate ventilation causing the chips to finally roast. Took Qwurst over a month to get me a new one too, which just about destroyed me. Now I mount the router on the wall and have a tiny personal table fan pointed at it to cool it down a bit.

coward =P
She's an efnet irc operator, also a C programmer who has worked on the ircd code.

if he's the one who is doing this, I hope he drinks some bad vodka with methanol in it and dies a horrible screeching vomiting death.
Remember, the four things that keep an irc network together are:
1) The learning of the wise
2) The justice of the great
3) The prayers of the righteous
4) The valor of the brave.
Against these things the packet kiddies will not ever prevail. EFNet will always be alive in our hearts and minds.
P.S. I miss you, Dianora. =~)
build one from plywood and two by fours,
and a little bit of Amerikanski Ingenuity =)
PICO UBER ALLES!
There's always nano too, of course, available
at freshmeat. =)
ack. no bitwise operators in CSS. /me loses interest.
Peanut Linux runs just fine on a 486/66,
at least the PRE KDE 2.x Peanut Linux distro. =)
rename it to MIA or in the HAL tradition, BJN
Weh.
I believe that the Fremen stillsuits were powered in a similar fashion, by the pumping action of the boots.

By the way, whatever happened to the revolving
rack of comic books in the local Circle K or
Seven Eleven?
What Ballmer needs is Rogaine 5000

I thought God invented the electromagnetic spectrum, or at least Maxwell. =)
