Look, even young Albert Einstein was more interested in riding his bike than he was in changing the world. To think that a kid would be more interested in playing games than becomming a scientist...well, that's just shocking. What is this world coming to?

  3. "Invent" vs. "Create" on Al Gore to Receive Internet Achievement Award · · Score: 0

Imagine the Bible saying "In the beginning, God invented Heaven and Earth." Al Gore was an advocate for, not a creator of, networking technology. This is a good example of self-serving speech. For example, a senator who advocates for lower emmisions from automobiles neither invents or creates clean air, although they will surely take credit for it if it polls well.

  4. the shoe is on the other foot... on AOL Placed on Spam Blacklist · · Score: 2, Interesting

One of my most frequest complaints from my customers has to do with their inability to send email to AOL customers. AOL has shown little restraint when it comes to blacklisting others. This is a nice wake up call for AOL. Live by the blacklist, die by the blacklist.

Listen folks, you don't like Bush and in your eyes he does nothing right, ever. Period. (to the less than 1/2 of 1% of slashdotters that this doesn't apply to, please disregard.) The administration has done the right thing here. Bush's long term vision of the industy isn't going to be well served by insiders. It would be like appointing Kofi Anon's son to represent the US at the UN. When you want to bring about change, you must select those capable of getting the job done.

I suspect the wood shell will protect the internal components better than plastic (I've seen plenty of laptops with broken displays lately). However, wood will be a better insulator so heat build-up will be a factor.

The real problem here is that pedistrians are silent. I hate it when they sneak up on my car and jump out in front of me. If my ride is required to have lights and be noisy, then let's be fair. Why are foot travelers the only ones allowed to move about in stealth mode? Make the carless/bikeless among us wear noise making devices that indicate velocity (and maybe backup beepers too for reverse mode). I think this should apply to pets too.

What term do you suggest we use to identify those who want to kill us all? I think the "enemy" and "combatant" is pretty darn accurate. Your "blame the US" attitude for 9/11 is sick. This might come as a huge shock to your system, but our government can not prevent all acts of violence, even when they "do their jobs." I'm sure you think you're smart but you're overlooking something very obvious. There are enemies and they want to fight. They want to kill as many of us as possible. Didn't 9/11 get your attention?

Vietnam wasn't technically a war either in that congress failed to make a formal declaration. (Neither was the Korean conflict.) However, the term "POW" did apply to prisoners, regardless of the official status of the conflict. Regarding your comment stating that "we are not at war," such declarations apply to governments of actual countries. In the case of terrorism, the decentralized nature of the terrorist's support structure would be enough to prevent congress from issuing a war declaration. This is at least part of the reason it has been repeated consistently that we're fighting a new kind of war. Granted, newness is debatable, but for certain a mature and effective response can not resemble a traditional defense strategy.
