For many of the same features being described in the future video iPods, check out the Archos 704. It's got the wifi, the browser, the big touch screen, the USB ports, etc. Personally, I think it's a bit big, but the features are amazing. Soem competition to keep Apple on their toes is nice to see too.
In most cases, from the examples I've seen, the rapid prototyping tools can't currently create a durable item, nor can they create moving parts to any great degree. The items are only made of a single material that is not exceptionally strong. Of course, it's possible that I'm as out of touch as usual.
I was under the impression that many HD-DVD disks have a standard def side on them. When I heard this, I just about went out and bought one... as at the very least it means you'll only be screwed out of the difference in the price difference between the HD and SD versions.
I would have though the HD-DVD marketers would be pushing the format based on this, but they don't seem to be marketing it that much at all.
For me it depends on when they have one out with a decent amount of space. Right now, I consider my 30Gb player much too small.
As for phones, I use a Treo, and appreciate the third party development efforts. Opening up the iPhone for 3rd part dev would go a long way in my books...
Where I work, the opposite tends to happen. If you're not that good technically, you tend to bubble up to management. I'm not saying they're complete idiots, just that they're not the best technical people. I still don't think it's the best way to find good managers though... they may suck at that as well.
You want to stop hindering the digital transformation? Fine... fix software patents. It seems like you can't create anything anymore without running into some obvious patent.
The touch screen would be especially nice for non-game software, such as the built in browser. One of the Archos devices has it, and I can't imagine using the browser without it.
I recall seeing some articles about various governments and large organizations having problems with Microsoft's new 'controls' imposed by licensing agreements, and the possibility that you may be locked out of your hardware. To many, it's unacceptable, and Linux is a nice alternative, especially given the price and the reliability.
Sadly, I would imagine it will be a very short period of time before the feature is defeated. It's still a deterent I suppose, just not as much of one...
I've been on major rants for years with various people about having _everything_ maintained in UTC, using time zone localization only as a 'view' onto dates and times. The problem is, most people seem to think their own time zone is the center of the universe and don 't even realize that provblems occur even within one's own TZ because of DST variations.
Sadly, I think those of us that are of this opinion will be once more proven correct, but will be ignored after the immediate problems have been resolved.
The XBox live idiot factor varies greatly with the game being played. Halo2 has a very high one, while GRAW is relatively low. Part of the reason for this is likely that GRAW is a 360 game, and Halo2 is not...

I can sympathize: Comic

The summary states that the Wii version will include all of the bonus features from the PS/2 release.
Sadly, this is likely to do very little to stop the use of the word 'mashups'.

you can even get elected for it.

Windows should probably have been excluded, although doing so might drop the US far down the list.
GOTO END or , for those that believe in reincarnation: GOSUB END

These would make it very attractive device, providing Sony stops stops trying to cripple the software running on them.
If the market exists, the crapware will follow.

Perhaps a poor analogy ... this is more like cursing a knife when it won't cut through a tree fast enough.

So, you're saying this is a good thing then ...
A 40 Gig disk doesn't go very far towards replacing a proper PVR, unless it's expandable.

Oh, I'd say a few of us wasted quite a lot of time on Oblivion as much as any other RPG. Perhaps we just enjoyed it a little more.
