I don't know if it's because of Unity, in spite of it, or unrelated to it, but according to this source , Linux desktop usage is up 64% in the last hear. I really hope Unity isn''t driving people away.
Not being locked into the Apple ecosystem is worth something to many. It gives the option to buy your hardware from a variety of manufacturers, and the same for your software. You decide the features you want and the software you want to run.
That doesn't (or didn't) sit well with their insistence on controlling everything. I'd also suggest maybe funding some causes that help humanity, or technology in general, rather than just the bottom line.
Unfortunately, that may be one of the prices that needs to be paid when one chooses a platform where you're not allowed to run anything you want. It also may turn out that some of the services like this will actually speed up the experience, like with Opera mini. Anything heavy on processing and light on moving graphics will be much faster run like this. It may turn out that Office runs faster than it would natively.
... and even worse, as I like to point out; you are in violation of a software patent even if your implementation of the same idea is vastly superior in every way.
I wonder if it would be possible to write a printer driver that generates lots of extra random dots of exactly the same style on anything that is printed. If so, that might be a way of rendering this tracking useless.
I'm still quite surprised that nobody is connecting the online surveillance to the media companies. People still seem to believe that it's just a misguided child predator act.
It's not that strange a view. If I'm going to see ads, I'd like to see target ads. Apple doesn't seem to give you the choice (or at least, the default is to block... I don't know if you can change it later).
People keep using the phrase "Open API" where they should be using the phrase "published API". They seem to be trying to make people think that it's something that it's not.
Did I miss the announcement of a contest offering a prize for the company that can be the biggest douche-bag? I must have. Between these guys, Apple, Microsoft, and a handful of others, they must be having some fun at our expense.
Someone on Slashdot once mentioned that they worked at Cisco I believe, and had a friend who worked at another networking company. They said that every time Cisco and this other company put up a new office, Huawei put one up within a few kilometers. This could be a fabrication, but it would be an interesting thing to look into.
In my opinion, this is not even the stupidest thing they've done. We also have race-based schools here now. Of course, being the favoured pets of the provincial premier (who's wife is teacher) have received very large wage increases in his time in office, even as the provinces finances are being flushed down the toilet.
Over the last ten years or so the mainframe environment I worked with was IPLed (rebooted) every 2 or 3 months. Admittedly, most of these were because of human errors, but the cause doesn't really matter. The uptime is only there if you never let *anyone* touch it, or make *any* changes.
The legal system tends to route *towards* damage. There's no incentive for it not to,

Scratch is also not allowed on iDevices.
Absolutely. Who are they to determine what is and what's not allowed. Who do they thing they are, Apple?

The US now seems to treat politics like just another reality TV show.

That's not the point I'm trying to make. A cart is not a superior implementation of a wheel.

Your being to picky. People care less about grammar these days ten most other things. Irregardless, there doing the best they can
I hardly think iTunes was the first video player to have a single window, and it's probably not the best example of one.
Sometimes we don't even get to be able to choose one. These days, you should also add "open" to the list in the case of computer hardware.

Well, Sony is an expert in security.

Most of the property they're "defending" is not really theirs.
You also pay to use the processors.
People should keep this in mind when they decide to lock-in to a proprietary solution. Also $700K ... very low-ball from what I've seen.
