Laudable, if stupid, goal. And just another way for the duo to distract from all the evil Facebook does and will continue to do. And if you think they won't monetize this somehow, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
That is what I'm doing with my new LG 4K TV. It's not connected to my home network in any way; only the cable box and my Apple TV are connected, and they are connected via wire and a separate WiFi network, respectively, and the Apple TV is the only device on that network.
If you want the convenience, be prepared to pay for it. I recognize the inherent insecurity and instability of such devices and will never let one near my home or network. BK is just playing the hand they were dealt, so to speak, by the numbnuts at Google. Probably goes for Alexis, too. We as consumers need to be more aware of what these devices do and the hazards they pose.
I recently shopped for a new TV. Looked at flat and curved screens, hated the curved screens and couldn't stand the glare. Read the reviews, too, and concluded that curved screens are going away, just like 3D did. Bought an LG that was one step below their OLED's. Couldn't be happier - oh, and it's not hooked up to my network so it's just a dumb TV.
Haven't taken the time to read all the comments, but don't certain driver-less and current safety type features depend on lines to keep you in a lane? If there is no center line how is an autonomous car going to determine the the correct lane to be in?
Agreed. I trust no on in these positions to stop just because it is unlawful to continue. Especially with all the whining about how "useful" (i.e., no proof that they helped in anyway) they have been. Perhaps I've been jaundiced by all 24 and all those other programs but since when does the expiration of a law mean anything? It's not like enforcers can seal off a room or disconnect servers from the Intertubes.
Old curmudgeon here, but WTH is "deanonymizes"? Sounds like a sci-fi weapon - "Starbuck, what do you have left in your deanonymizer?" But I take from the article and discussion that it's about identifying folks who make anonymous comments. Jeez, ain't they no editors aroun' here anymo'?
At least AT&T was honest about it, whereas "Do No Evil" Google is only slightly more transparent than the NSA. I agree with Taantric that Starbucks is off my list of places to go for WiFi.
Except that my online company includes friends at locations thousands of miles away, kind of hard to keep up with them like the friends closer by. Additionally, while I haven't RTFA this appears to allow no room for error and assumes my friends are (mostly) mindless clones who automatically repeat or repost what I do. I don't know about you all, but I find this one step closer to welcoming our evil overlords. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Have I not lost my wide-eyed innocence yet?
Can we focus on some REAL issues!? I have some much simpler suggestions:
1-leave
2-use earplugs
3-battle of the jukebox songs! (Or, I Can Drive You Crazier Faster Than You Can Drive Me Crazier!)
Look at it this way - a billion isn't worth what it once was. That's the only way I can stop my head spinning over this decision. Are apps the next tulip craze? And how many other disconnected thoughts can I get in here?
Ditto. We replaced our living room TV with a Samsung 55" because the wife wanted a newer TV and best Buy had it for an incredible steal. Still have yet to watch anything in 3D - don't even know if we could find the glasses now.

Agreed! My sentiments exactly.
HAhahahahahahahaha! no way dudes, no way.
Apple Basic.

Another reason to avoid using smart TV features. Nobody cares about security anymore.
Pardon me Jarvis, but may I ask who gives a damn? I'm sorry Zuck - may I call you Zuck? - outside yourself and some fanbois absolutely no one.

iOS ad blocker app, here I come. What a freaking idiot!

Lessee, from one monopoly to another - that's a choice?
