    No, it doesn't. If you're going to make technical decisions based on unverified information from random Slashdot posters, especially when it flies in the face of reality (ReiserFS was designed to handle lots of small files), then I hope you don't do this kind of thing for a living.

    I've got about 2 million e-mails stored on a ReiserFS partition in maildir format (all single files) and I can assure you that most other filing systems would shit themselves. Performance aside, if I moved them to Ext2 they would take up at least twice as much space since ReiserFS packs together files smaller than the cluster size.

    I think he was probably referring to the shame caused by the inevitable accusations of necrophilia that afflict anyone who dabbles in "BSD".

    And I sure hope AMD dumps the Semptron soon- by the looks of it they will, since the AthlonXP architecture it's based on isn't going to scale much further.

    Not quite true - only the low end Semprons are based on the AthlonXP architecture. You've also got the Socket 754 Semprons which are Athlon 64s minus the 64bit goodness and Socket 939 Semprons which are 64bit but with only 128kB of cache.

    Unfortunately the Socket 939 ones are only available to OEMs at the moment - it appears they overclock very nicely.

    We know that some EM radiation does cause cancer and other health problems.

    EM radiation covers a vast range of frequencies and some of it does cause health problems. But you're clearly talking about cell phones, power lines, WiFi etc..

    In which case would you be kind enough to cite studies which unambiguously show that these cause cancer or any other health problems?

    Or are you the sort of person that buys special crystals to stop your cell phone upsetting your chakras and giving you cancer?

    It's not a bug, it's a feature. Some security products operate by inserting TCP reset signals to blog innapropriate connections. One company has had a patent on this method for years.

    Yes, but there is a huge difference between a router/firewall/IDS which is actually handling the connection (and therefore has intimate knowledge of the sequence numbers) being able to send an RST and a 3rd party with only limited info about the connection being able to reset it.

    I assume you took that minor detail into account before insinuating that Paul Watson was a publicity seeker who hadn't discovered anything new?

    No, you failed to bore everyone to tears with a 60,000 word essay on the importance of an HIG.

    Also, you didn't complain about KDE giving users the ability to change the system colours. Every Gnome zealot knows that if you give users that much control, they'll just change all the colours to white and leave their computer unusable. They can't be trusted with configuration options.

    And you really should have mentioned that Gnome has the best apps, citing examples such as Firefox and the Gimp.

    FreeBSD allows you to allocate a dynamically resizable filesystem out of swap (see: md, mfs).

    Isn't that exactly the same as tmpfs under Linux?

    Perhaps some BSDers can tell us why the FreeBSD implementation is superior to the Linux one? Extra marks will be awarded for each use of the words "inelegant" and "cruft".

    Actual experience or knowledge of either implementation is, as usual, entirely optional if not discouraged.

    So the logic boards might still suck, but if you have AppleCare, and back up your data regularly, you should still be set.

    So, as long as you don't mind taking in your laptop for repair 3 or 4 times over a short period and the constant risk of losing your data, it's a great laptop?

    The problem with PoE is that its -48V which is difficult to make unless your a phone company.

    I'm not an expert in these matters, but couldn't one make -48v by making +48v and then swapping the wires over?

    Is it worth me trying to patent this idea?

    BeOS was usable on the desktop when Linux was just a little toy no one would think about using on a server, let alone a desktop.

    When the fuck was BeOS ever usable as a desktop?

    I tried it a number of times over the years on different hardware and it was never more than a fucking toy.

    So tell us all - what exactly did you use it for? Photoshop? Cubase? Oh no, those were never released because it was just a fucking toy.

    Let's face it - you used it to browse the net with the shitty builtin browser and laughed at the Haiku error messages generated when you tried to visit approximately 99% of the web sites in existence. And that's all you ever did.

    I don't hate people who advocate a particular OS just because they like it. I hate people who lie like you just have. Prick.

    I would really appreciate it if you could provide some online references.

    You'll never see any because they don't exist. The company behind Zeta have done some very dubious things (such as selling the beta on a German shopping channel and describing it as just like Windows XP without the viruses) so I see no reason to believe their claims.

    Of course, the legion of fanatical BeOS fans will believe any shit they put on a press release just because they don't want to believe that BeOS is deader than dead. I look forward to not reading their replies.
