Hollywood can't even handle a Phillip K. Dick story without slapping on a happy ending. Do you think for a second that they are going to spend tens of millions of $ on a movie and include ANYTHING that makes even one test screening audience the *slightest* bit uncomfortable?
The only way to do include any of this sort of material be to do it on the cheap and raise independent funding. If you accept Hollywood's fat cash, you accept that they're going to make your movie as inoffensive and audience-pleasing as possible. Those are the strings attached.
Actually, North Korea is a strong, technologically powerful country with a leader who is very tall, handsome, and manly. And I'm not just saying that because he kidnapped me and brought me here to make ripoffs of old John Wayne movies.
I just wish someone would update Slashdotter. Between Firefox 3 and Taco feeling the need to change Slashdot's layout on a daily basis, Slashdotter has become flaky as hell.
Bittorent doesn't allow for tracking downloads. It's one of the things that really holds it back for general use for a lot of companies. For example, a lot of internet TV shows would LOVE to use bittorent to reduce their download overhead (which is HUGE), but how are they supposed to determine their "ratings" if they're not sure how many donwloads they've had? They used to talk a lot about this over at DLTV.
I had the same sort of thing happen. After owning a Tivo for years, I gave it up when I finally got digital cable. It had a great interface (much better than any cable company DVR), but it was useless to me without the ability to access the digital channels. Then I heard that they had released an HD Tivo that was reasonably priced and had cablecard support. So I got it, only to find that it didn't support several of my favorite HD channels (because of SDV). I regrettfully returned it that week. When I canceled my subscription, all the Tivo rep could give me were vague promises of "We've got a solution coming out soon." I will think LONG AND HARD before going back to Tivo again. They have a great product, but it isn't worth anything if they can't maintain an amicable agreement with cable companies to actually keep the boxes FUNCTIONAL.
Decades after the space race ended and the U.S. media and NASA still feel the need to get in any shot they can at the Russians and downplay their incredible successes. When a Mars probe fails, no one says "The American built Mars rover was lost today." No one says "The American built Columbia space shuttle blew up today." For decades growing up, all any of us heard about was the great Apollo program. No one heard about the Russian space stations, the Russian probe to Mars, etc. In fact, the first time American media reported at any length on the MIR was when it started to have problems (well after it was beyond its projected lifespan).
The U.S. media treats the Russian space program like it were some bunch of morons building substandard machinery. But who did WE rely on to take us into space when our great space shuttle was reduced to bits and pieces? Who has a MUCH lower fatality rate and a MUCH higher rocket success rate?
Seriously, what did he expect, that a lazy corporation was going to reform its security policies because a 23-year-old hourly employee complained anonymously on a blog? And what did he think they were going to do when they caught him, give him a raise and a promise to change their cheap lazy ways?
Does anyone else have a mother with a attic completely FILLED with these exercise machines? It's like a graveyard of broken dreams that she keeps carrying around from house to house, always in need of a bigger attic.

They got Kane and Lynched.
You reserve the studio in Bulgaria, I'll call Bruce Campbell!
I've got 1,000 of these smelly bastards sitting in a room full of typewriters, and NOT ONE of them has produced the works of Shakespeare yet.

I had a friend who would always answer telemarketing calls with "Could you call back later? I'm masturbating"
Yeah, but he'll be eligible for parole in 78,000.
How many hours of community service do you get for 58,000 counts of petty theft?
I hear the son of a bitch used the money to buy a Ferrari.
They were stopped by the EVIL STATUES!
Twill' serve the proletariat fine, aye!

Being popular with your commander.

Being a whistleblower means sacrifice. No one gives you a medal for doing the right thing, nor should you expect anything but scorn.

Woosh!
Not if we send Quaid ahead to start the reactor.
Bah, rock left when Elvis died.
What if your grandma is a sociopath?

Summer never really comes to Siberia.
As long as dogs and cats aren't living together, we should be cool.
