If you want to be a little more clever you can examine the hop count (TTL) in the reset packets and determine whether the values are consistent with them arriving from the far end, or if the value indicates they have come from the intervening censorship device.
leave it to china to turn lag into something good.
I've noticed clients are now getting some enjoyment out of exchange after I installed linux+postfix mail firewalls in front of them. It kind of feels bad. I think they are going to forget the reason why stuff is now working. I know their boss'n are ignorant of the reason. But anyway, maybe Microsoft wants to see this "improvement" for themselves.
Unless the game industry can produce games that turn children into flaming christian zealots the current pile of shit representing themselves as our government will fuck with the state of games. The same is true with prose, movies, and music.
Everybody knows if you dig out some of the sand behind the wheels with a frisbee you can roll right out. This is what NASA gets for their all work and no play mentality.
I don't know if this is a "which db + scripting language is better" request or "is there an access front end like tool thing for something that isn't access" question. Unless you are having serious data/production/security loss/issues, I think you should stick with what your people know.
1. Have zero expectation of monetary compensation beyond your salary.
No. Have great monetary expectations but only beyond salary expectations. Startups pay very little with the expectation of it becoming something big and rewarding the people who stand with it at the end.
2. Don't take a job for less salary than you would be satisfied with in exchange for equity.
If you want a salary then take a job with a well founded company.
3. Don't sign on to a vesting schedule you know you won't stick around through.
If you can't survive the bad times then you aren't right for a startup.
90% of the startups I have worked for have failed; PetWorld, BigBearArms and sporting goods, HomeDecorp... were failures. Broadcast.com was bought by yahoo. The startup I'm working for now looks promissing too.
The only way to protect yourself is is a partnership agreement. Make sure your percentage of input is recorded and everyone involved understands what percent of the end reward is yours. Options are for employees that are not major parts of the business, but loyal and deserving.
I'd like to mod this +1 informative but need to add something. IRC with gaim gives you more control than the other options plus clients that work on all platforms. Used with a vpn (OpenVPN) its very secure.

I agree that people are going to be buying ever larger and more powerful systems. Yes, this will make bloat less important. Yes, this will give jit type languages a bigger role in larger applications.

theyll be plowing their fields with oxen in a dozen years.
considering the lower then average income in the midwest and the price of gas i agree. also, keeping people poor and stupid is easy when they are already poor.
Yes. The people worried about terrorists taking down or completely disabling the machines that they beleive are so important should see this as shit waiting to happen. Any software with a built in disable function should be seen with the same eyes as any good security engineer. Pure crap!
I think your confusing when AMD made 386, 468, and 596 chips for Intel. They also made their own 387 math co-processor which Intel claims to be copied from them. From the K6 on AMD chips have been AMD's design.
I haven't seen much of a change in the retail market. http://www.pricewatch.com/cpu/ I do think it is ironic that AMD is beating Intel to the market with new processors. Considering just before the K8 came out Intel made the statement to the effect "AMD has never done anything but copy our designs".
That begs the question, Will there be an increase in people using cracked copies of windows for duel boot with the belief they don't have to keep them updated.
I prefer games that I can run native on Linux. Fortunately my favorites are available. If I used a MAC I still wouldn't buy a copy of Windows just to play games. Needless to say, the temptation would be there.
What kinds of problems would come from MAC (and some Linux) users that choose to have an already pathetically unsecure system running in duel boot mode to play games?
How many people play WoW for less time than it takes Slammer to send 100k emails?
First, it isn't the amount of cache you read it is the speed your processor can evict and replace information. Second, it doesn't have a wide pipeline with multithreaded SPE's. (It doesn't need a big cache).
its called v-mail for short. you use this high tech device called a "phone". with the "phone" you call a number which represents an "address" for another "phone". if the person operating the other "phone" doesn't answer, you can leave a message called a "voice mail" or "v-mail" for short.
The unique part of this new technology is, anyone can use the "phone" device and many types of "phone" devices can be used because they all follow the same standards.
If that isn't enough please note that "phone" devices can be installed in other devices. Cars, computers, business', and even homes can have "phones" installed in them.

Me thinks you know WAY too much about drugs. So either your are a teenager or from china and able to get around the great firewall.

Exactly! Why would they want to get rid of the only M$ employee that knows this?!?
I'm with you. I still wont use it. But at least, I'll wait until it is out before I'll develop an opinion as to how hard it is to break into it.

Now mac users are going to be confused. OOo or o_Oo
